nutrageousd Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Hi All,This is my first time using this forum so please understand if I'm posting this in the wrong section or something.I am looking to book a hotel for 7/16-7/18 and would prefer one of the following hotels:Monterey Plaza Hotel & SpaInterContinental Hotel Monterey The ClementMonterey Bay InnI was doing some research and see that the first two are 4* on Priceline and the last one is only 2.5* on Priceline (but has amazing reviews everywhere!)Can anybody please help me with how to guarantee I get one of these 3 hotels for the cheapest price? I have no preference when it comes to the 3 (they all look amazing) and just wanted the cheapest price possible.I promise to use the links on your site to do the bidding/booking so you guys get credit! Thanks for any help in advance.-Dave
AaronJB Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)There is no way to ensure a particular property when bidding on PRICELINE; when bidding for a 4* in a particular zone (for example), you could get any of the 4*'s in that zone. One can make an educated guess as to which hotels are showing on a different service (HOTWIRE), but with PRICELINE one has to be willing to accept what the service gives you (and HOTWIRE only shows one hotel per star rating per zone for each set of dates, so the hotel you are looking for may not be the one showing.) The Plaza and Bay Inn have not yet been reported to the board on PRICELINE (although the Plaza has been reported on HOTWIRE), but the Intercontinental has been reported on both services. Please let us know your thoughts on the above and how you would like to proceed. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
nutrageousd Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Thank you very much for the reply AaronJB!I would love to stay at the Intercontinental that weekend, and I am willing to use either service (Hotwire or Priceline). Is there a special way to bid on priceline to get the lowest price possible? I was wondering if the prices get lower as the date gets closer....I understand I'm trying to book for a weekend so the availability might not be very good but I'd like to get the best price possible. I will definately use the links provided; thank you again for replying so quickly! Any help is appreciated!-Dave
yellowdog Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 nutrageousdI would love to stay at the Intercontinental that weekend,Like AaronJB said, You can't bid on a specific hotel when using PRICELINE. You need to be willing to stay at any 4* in the zone you're bidding at. Are you willing to do that?I was wondering if the prices get lower as the date gets closer. Please read this link: Should i Bid Early or Close to Arrival DateIf you're trying to target a specific property then HOTWIRE can often be a better option if you're successfully able to identify it based upon the star rating and amenities shown before your purchase... the trade-off is that HOTWIRE usually costs a little more than PRICELINE, so you need to decide what is most important to you for a given stay, the lowest possible price OR the ability to take an educated guess as to the property you may receive.Let us know how we can help you further.Yellowdog.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
nutrageousd Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Thanks for the reply Yellowdog I did some research on your site and I think the way I'd like to try is to use Priceline.com to try for a 4* hotel. I looked at the listed 4* hotels in that area for priceline.com and it looks like it would either be the intercontinental or the marriott (I prefer the intercontinental) but I am completely fine with either; I'm just looking for the best price now. Should I start bidding (using your PRICELINE link of course) whatever price or is there a certain high or low limit I should go to?Thanks,-Dave
Colfax Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Summer weekends in Monterey can be pricey and this one is. Intercontinental is $399 and Marriott is $354. If Priceline has any 4* my offhand guess is it could take a bid in $125-$175 range. Is that in the budget you were considering?Hotwire has a 4* for $146 that looks like Hyatt Regency, which is a 3.5* on Priceline. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
nutrageousd Posted July 13, 2010 Author Report Posted July 13, 2010 Ok I'll give PRICELINE a go around that price and hope I get lucky! Thanks for the help guys I'll do the Hyatt as a backup! I will use the PRICELINE links of course. Thanks to everybody for your help I'll post my results soon!
AaronJB Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 Thank you for using the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links, and keeping us updated. Please let us know if you have any questions and good luck with bidding.
trickyazn Posted July 14, 2010 Report Posted July 14, 2010 Just an fyi, I've bidded up to $95 (maxed out) for those exact days july 16-18 without success for a 3* and up. If you do find a hotel however, let me know your success.. hopefully we run into each other in Monterey!
