purplelotus Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Started bidding on 3.5* properties on 6/27 in this area plus Dupont Circle and White House areas. Started at $60 and was bidding in $1-$2 increments over several days starting new bids and combining the different areas. When I bid $75 on 7/3, Priceline countered with an additional $15 for $90. I thought this was too much since last year I won both the Hyatt Captiol Hill and Marriott Wardman Park for around $60 for similar dates in August. Today I bid $86 (and still got a counter for plus $15, making it $103.) I then decided to settle for a 3*. My first bid was $70, and I won this hotel so I probably overpaid. Total cost with taxes and fees is $732.87. Used the PRICELINE link on this site for all my bids.Read reviews on Trip Advisor. Sounds as if hotel needs some renovation and cleaning although many reviewers seemed happy enough with the hotel. I hope we like our room. Location is excellent for our trip since we visit the museums on the mall. So I'm not excited, but I think it will work out. Have won Hyatt Capitol Hill, Marriott Wardman Park, Marriott Metro Center, Renaissance Convention Center and Palomar Hotel in Dupont Circle on Priceline or Hotwire over the past few years. All are excellent hotels although room at Palomar was small and we paid $20/night to upgrade to a beautiiful suite.

purplelotus Posted August 28, 2010 Author Report Posted August 28, 2010 Just returned home from our stay at L'Enfant Plaza in DC. Hotel worked out very well. Even though check-in clerk mentioned Priceline, he gave us a room on the top floor (15th) which had a balcony and a fabulous unobstructed southern view. Room was large and nicely decorated. King bed was very comfortable. Room had small refrigerator so we were able to store milk for breakfast cereal. Location is ideal for museum-going on the mall. One can walk to most of the Smithsonian museums. Four lines of the DC metro stop underneath the hotel (one doesn't have to go outside) so if one wants to travel elsewhere, it is very convenient. Also underneath the hotel is a small mall with a few restaurants and shops. One could get an inexpensive breakfast or lunch there on weekdays. It's closed weekends and evenings. Hotel serves free lemonade in lobby in afternoon during summer. There's a business center with 3 computers and a printer which is free. Internet in the room is pricey -- $11/day. Hotel clientele is mixed -- tourists, business people, conventioneers. There are not many restaurants near the hotel, but we hopped on the metro for dinner in other areas or walked to Chinatown (a bit over a mile). Front desk clerks weren't responsive when two computers weren't working in business center, but when I raised the issue to management, I got immediate action. A manager told me hotel is going to be renovated. Some of the lobby furniture seemed a bit worn, but the hotel was generally clean and functional. Price may rise with the renovation. We'd be happy to stay here again. No complaints for price we paid.
