matland Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Do anybody know how much i have to bid for a 4* hotel Downtown, Coronado or San Diego Coastal?I`ve tried several times but no luck. My highest bid has been $140.If it is impossible, how much do i have to bid for a 3* star in the same districts?
yellowdog Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding :) 4*/3* prices are very high, something is going on.What is max budgett/night for a 3* and 4*?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.
matland Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Thanks for your reply!Max budget 4* $160-170 pr nightMax budget 3* $120-130 pr nightWhat do you think? Do i have any chance? I`ve been bidding for about 3 weeks now.Never been to San Diego before.... Is there any other areas you would recommend for a tourist?
Colfax Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Your dates are smack in the middle of Comic Con, an enormous annual gathering of comic and fantasy enthusiasts. It's one of the busiest hotel events of the year in San Diego, and PRICELINE may not have any inventory at all in the "prime" zones you're looking at. If there are last minute cancellations maybe hotel inventory will improve, but you can't count on that.Do you have any flexibility to adjust your travel dates? The convention is 7/22-7/25 at the Downtown Convention Center. If your dates are firm you may have to consider other more outlying zones and/or lower quality levels. But before that...You've bid to $140 for 4* in Downtown, Coastal, and Coronado zones, and your 4* limit is $170.Do you want to try to $170 for 4* in those three zones next? Or first try up to $140 for 3.5* and 3*?
matland Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 My travel dates are not flexible, so i have to find something these dates. Thanks for the information about the Comic Con.I will try to bid up to my limit. Can you recommend any other areas in or around San Diego?
Colfax Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 We can talk about alternatives to Downtown and Coastal zones but would you like to bid to your limit in those zones first? Maybe you'll be lucky and win something in your preferred zones, and you won't have think about Plan B.I think you've bid to $140 for 4* in Coastal and Downtown-Harbor Island. What would you like to try next? Bid from $140 to $170 for a 4*? Or bid up to $140 for a 3.5* in Downtown and Coastal?I'm not sure if you're familiar with using rebid zones to make multiple bids in one bidding session. You can bid from $140 to $170 in $5 increments ($140, $145, $150...) all in one bidding session without waiting 24 hours. For more info see this link:Bidding Again Before 24 HoursYou have 13 rebid zones for 4* in San Diego and 9 rebid zones for 3.5*. If you have any questions after reading that link feel free to ask.
Colfax Posted July 11, 2010 Report Posted July 11, 2010 Another poster, and probably many lurkers, are looking for the same dates during Comic Con. HOTWIRE has NOTHING at all at any quality level in Downtown-Harbor Island or Gaslamp-Convention Center zones. It's possible that PRICELINE has nothing in those zones either, no matter how high you bid. Most hotels are sold out.Have you booked anything yet? Considering alternative zones?
matland Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 Hi again!I`m familiar with rebid zones, but still no luck.I have also tried bidding up to max for both 4* and 3,5*. No luck. What to do know?
Colfax Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Just to be clear were you rejected to $170/4* in Downtown, Coastal, and Coronado? And $130/3.5* in the same three zones?HOTWIRE only has ONE hotel in all of Downtown---a 2* for $302. Last time I checked they didn't even have that, so there's an improvement. Hotwire has nothing in Coronado.HOTWIRE has a 4* in La Jolla for $229 that looks like Hyatt Regency. That's the best deal I see on anything 3.5* or better (and that wasn't there yesterday either). If you don't want to raise your limit I'll suggest trying up to $170 for a 3* on PRICELINE.Good luck and let us know if you have any success.
