man from Boulder Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I am planning a family trip to San Diego from Aug, 1st to Aug, 5th, 2010. Preferred locations are Coronado, La Jolla beach, and San Diego coastal area. I tried to bid at $100 for 4* for those areas, but was not successful. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Colfax Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding, man from Boulder. How many beds do you need? Priceline only guarantees double occupancy, which can be a room with one bed. If you need two beds Hotwire is the better choice as you can enter the number in your party and be assured bedding for that number. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
man from Boulder Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Our family prefers two queen beds, but two doubles or one king bed would be OK. I also checked hotwire site, but the offers were not good compared with available hotels in Expedia.Welcome to BetterBidding, man from Boulder. How many beds do you need? Colfax Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 Our family prefers two queen beds, but two doubles or one king bed would be OK.Your family sounds flexible on bedding, which helps, but just to be sure you understand...PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy which could be a room with one queen (not king) bed. The zones you want (Coronado and Coastal) are popular family destinations and the hotels in those zones tend to have a lot of two-bed rooms, so you probably won't have an issue using Priceline in those two zones. But "probably" isn't a guarantee. It sounds like you're okay with the risk of using Priceline in this instance, but I wanted to be clear that there is still some risk, however small. If you want a guarantee of two beds you can get that on HOTWIRE, but as you've already noticed Hotwire prices tend to be higher than Priceline's.You've been rejected to $100/4* in Coronado and Coastal zones (I assume you bid Coastal zone. Priceline doesn't have a "La Jolla Beach" zone.) Is $100 your limit for a 4*? I think you might get a 4* in one of those two zones in $100-120 range.Or would you rather try to $100 for a 3.5* next?
man from Boulder Posted July 9, 2010 Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 Thank you very much for the tip. Our limit is about $120 for 4*. For 3.5*, I would consider $85 ~ $90, because I have seen some winning bids ranging $85 ~ $90 on San Diego area. I'm wondering if Aug. 1 ~ 5 would be quite busy season in San Diego.
man from Boulder Posted July 9, 2010 Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 I just got a successful bid on Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa at $115 per night. bidded on Coronado area at $110 -> no luckadded San Diego Coastal and increased bid to $115The dates are from 08/01/10 to 08/05/10 :)
