thereuare Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Welcome (officially) to BetterBidding! It's usually not a good idea to lower your star rating and increase your price (as you did in the $54 bid above)... see this thread for more details on this subject: If You Lower Your Star Rating then Lower Your Bid PriceAlso, if you're willing to bid higher you do have re-bid zones available, you don't need to lower your star rating to bid again if you use a bonafide re-bid zone. See this thread for more info, Priceline Re-Bidding Explained, although it's highly recommended you confirm your re-bid zones with the board and/or ask questions if you're confused if the subject is new to you. What is your maximum bid at each star level? Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your bidding. raindc5 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 I see where I went wrong.I didn't realize once I changed the zone I should have started my bidding all over again. All I did was add a zone, and a star and increase my bidding which obviously got me no where. Then the next day I just started all over with just 4* and 1 zone and didn't want to use up all my rebids so I finally posted a question here. Now that it's been 24hours I can start all over again.I'd like to have a 3.5* or up, but when I chose 3.5* it auto-selects 4* so I think I should start with 4* correct?I have 3 zones SFO North San Bruno, SFO Burlingame, and South San Francisco, which only show really 6 hotels 3.5*+, allll in SFO North & Burlingame.Any suggestions on what my starting bid should be today?
raindc5 Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Continuing...Dates 7/11-7/13Bid 5 58 Rejected - (Burlingame) 4*Bid 6 60 Rejected - Added (San Bruno)Bid 7 45 Rejected - 3.5*Bid 8 50 Rejected - Added (San Bruno)Bid 9 58 Rejected - Added (South San Fran)urugh :)
Colfax Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Hotwire has a 4* in South SFO-Burlingame for $89. Looks like a match for the Westin.PRICELINE usually beats HOTWIRE on rate so you can probably win a Priceline 4* between $58 (what you've bid) and $89. My offhand guess is somewhere in the $60-70 range. You could also try for a 4* in San Mateo zone. Marriott's the only reported 4* in San Mateo zone and it has a free airport shuttle. 4* in SM sometimes costs less than Burnlingame on Priceline....maybe $45-65 range?
Colfax Posted July 8, 2010 Report Posted July 8, 2010 I forgot to ask the key question:You've been rejected to $58 for 3.5* and 4* in the three "airport zones".With your stay now three nights away would you rather bid higher than $58 for a 4*/3.5* or hold your limit and try for a 3* now? All known 3* hotels in the three airport zones have shuttles. (Or 4* San Mateo?)
raindc5 Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Yes, I kind of gave up with the other 3 zones and went with your suggestion for San Mateo.Bid 45 Rejected 4* San MateoBid 50 Rejected Added BurlingameBid 55 Rejected Added San BrunoBid 60 Rejected Added South SFBid 65 Accepted Added 3.5* - which they said we've upgraded you to a 4* hotel San Mateo Marriott Sfo Airport1770 South Amphlett BoulevardSan Mateo, CA 94402They do have a free shuttle, thanks for your suggestion. A little further than I wanted to stay, but it gets the job done and it's the Marriott can't be all that bad for a 4*.I was a bit surprised 65 didn't hit in the other zones as well. I did like the fact I had 4 zones and 2 different star levels to choose from.
