AnnieW Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Looking to visit New York 1st Oct - 5th Oct 2010.Would like to stay in Central area with good access to attractions.Looking for a 4* Hotel.Could anyone give me some bidding tips and idea of max price I should be paying?Fantastic help for our last trip from the forum - so really appreciate the help!
AaronJB Posted July 6, 2010 Report Posted July 6, 2010 Good afternoon. :)October is generally an above-average period of the year, and hotels do tend to be expensive (on a positive note, usually really nice weather, though.)What would be the max (before taxes/fees) you would like to spend per night? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 A good way to determine a maximum bid...Find the best deal you're able to find thru conventional booking channels... then discount from there for the 'unknown' and non-refundability factor of using the opaque providers.Let us know what you find and we'll take it from there... although i'll 'warn' you're likely looking in the mid-high $200's for a 4* these dates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AnnieW Posted July 8, 2010 Author Report Posted July 8, 2010 Thanks for the info. Ideally would like to keep it to a max of $200.
thereuare Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 At the 4* level i'd feel comfortable bidding MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB... but you should take a look at these PRICELINE zones and confirm that they will work for your needs. Let us know if all of these zones are acceptable and we'll suggest a strategy accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AnnieW Posted July 9, 2010 Author Report Posted July 9, 2010 Had a look and happy with these zones. Thanks again.
thereuare Posted July 9, 2010 Report Posted July 9, 2010 At the 4* level you have SIX re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* MTE, MTW, TS and ESB...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rjeected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165, if rjeected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE, MTW, CPS, TS and ESB...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. AnnieW Posted July 12, 2010 Author Report Posted July 12, 2010 Brilliant - thanks yet again! Will let you know how I get on!Just 1 more question! I can see 5 re-bid zones - but could you let me know if Coney Island or Hells Kitchen is the 6th area as could not see these on the hotel zone list?
thereuare Posted July 13, 2010 Report Posted July 13, 2010 As per the comments at the top of the PRICELINE HOTEL LIST you should NOT use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones... you'll eventually get burned by a new hotel added to the system or upgraded from a previously reported star level... use the technique outlined in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained. With this noted, yes, Coney Island is a re-bid zone at the 4* level... Hell's Kitchen is not. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. AnnieW Posted July 15, 2010 Author Report Posted July 15, 2010 Just to let you know, bid as per guide but all bids rejected :-(Will have to think about changing our dates or going for a 3 star hotel instead!
thereuare Posted July 16, 2010 Report Posted July 16, 2010 Let us know what you decide and if/how we can be of further help.Do note that the next star level down is 3.5*... not 3*.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
