shamp Posted March 4, 2005 Report Posted March 4, 2005 Hi,I'm going to LA for the first time and I would really like to stay at the Hyatt in West Hollywood, not interested in any other 3* hotel. My stay dates are May 30 - July 4.I've read through much of the board, so I understand there's no guarantee PL will put me at the Hyatt with a successful bid. Any bidding strategy would be much appreciated. My guess would be to start at $56, since it looks like that worked for similar stay dates in 2004.

shamp Posted March 5, 2005 Author Report Posted March 5, 2005 I'm willing to take the risk of not getting the hyatt even though it's my first choice. I mention I want the hyatt specifically because it seems there are bidding strategies where some hotels fall into certain price points.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2005 Report Posted March 5, 2005 The Hyatt is sold-out for the full dates listed above, so i dont' think you'll successfully be able to target it. shamp Posted March 5, 2005 Author Report Posted March 5, 2005 woops, i see my original post had me staying over 1 month at the hyatt, only need 4 days, jun30-jul4
thereuare Posted March 6, 2005 Report Posted March 6, 2005 I didn't pick up on it either... just inputted the dates and got the "no availability screen" :) We don't generally recommend bidding for a specific hotel as you can often end up overbidding and getting a hotel other than the one you want. There is no bidding strategy in this zone that i know of which would specifically target the Hyatt, but if this is what you want to try for (in addition to the warning about trying for a specific hotel) i would bid $68, if that is rejected wait 72 hours and try $73.What is believed to be the Hyatt is available on HOTWIRE for $139/nite, which may be a safer, although more expensive way of playing this.Let us know how it goes. shamp Posted March 11, 2005 Author Report Posted March 11, 2005 i'm up to $78, none taken, will bid $83 tonight
thereuare Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 You're starting to increase the likelihood of other properties... may not matte at this point if you've become more concerned with simply finding a place to stay rather than the particular hotel, but you should be aware of the fact. Steph58 Posted March 16, 2005 Report Posted March 16, 2005 While the Westwood Doubletree doesn't have the action-packed Hollywood location of the Hyatt, it is a much nicer (classier) hotel. Rooms, furnishings, decor, etc. at the Doubletree are very nice (I've stayed there but not via PL).
