Hello!!

I'm heading to San Diego, in hopes that I can stay in Coronada, CA tonight...

It seems like such a great place, but the hotels seem to be a bit expensive for my budget.

Would you have any tips for winning a bid of $45 or under.

Any 2 star or 1 star hotels?

All I need is a clean bed in this great location...

I'm looking at the map and it seems like there are beaches surrounding the entire island?

Please help!!!

Thank you!!

Priceline offers 2* and 1* bidding in Coronado but noone has ever reported a 2* or 1* win to this board. If a Coronado 2* or 1* is available on Priceline I expect it costs more than $45.

Since this is a last minute bid I don't recommend lowballing. I'd try $60 for a 2*, and if that's rejected try $70 for a 1* (which will give you another shot at 2* via upgrade.)

Please use this PRICELINE link and Good Luck!

If you strike out on Coronado here are some nearby zones where you might have last minute success at $45 or less:

2.5* Point Loma-Shelter Island

2.5* Downtown-Harbor Island

3* Mission Valley

2.5* Mission Valley

2* Mission Valley

Hello!

Thank you for such a quick reply...

Do I have a chance around Long Beach or Manhattan Beach for tomorrow?

or any other southern beaches around 30-40 min away from LA?

$45 and below?

I don't care too much about the star rating, I just want to be walking distance from the beach...

Thank you in advance!! :)

Hello!

I was so pressed on time that I ended up getting a room at Comfort Inn Gaslamp Convention Center in Downtown San Diego.

The room's on the small side, but the room is clean and the area looks nice.

The Priceline rate is $79 for one night (2*).

I'd like to bid tonight for the next two days, so I can save money!!

I still need a place for 6/24-6/26...

I would greatly appreciate your help...

I've been researching hotels all day, but no matter how much I cover, I can't seem to get anywhere!

Thanks for updating on your plans for tonight. Sounds like the Comfort Inn Gaslamp is basically working out for you.

You might win a 3.5* or 3* in Manhattan-Redondo for $45. It might not be "walking distance" to beach...but within 1-2 miles. If you want directly on the beach you're probably best to book that conventionally (not on Priceline).

If you want to try Priceline though I suggest $42 for a 3* in Manhattan-Redondo. Add rebid zone Lawndale and bid $45.

If that fails I suggest close browser, reaccess Priceline, and try the same--42/45--but for 2.5* in Manhattan/Redondo.

Please use this PRICELINE link. Good luck!

Thank you for the speedy response!!

Has there ever been any successful bids on Manhattan-Redondo any closer to the beach?

If so, how much was the bid offer?

And yes,

Unfortunately, I already used today's Coronado bid before I posted my questions.

---Coronado bid at $50 for 2* and 1* - FAILED

Also,

---Long Beach-Long Beach 6/24-6/26

3* $48 - FAILED

Boutique $46 - FAILED

When people win a hotel very near the beach on Priceline it's usually a coincidence, not the result of bidding strategy. You can win a hotel ANYWHERE in the zone you bid and most hotels in Priceline's Manhattan-Redondo zone are 1-2 miles from the beach. There's no way to improve your chances of winning a hotel that's closer to the beach. If you want a beachfront property you have to book that conventionally, or look for something on HOTWIRE with an Oceanfront or Near Beach icon.

Thanks! :)

jdcor13, did you bid for the Comfort Inn Gaslamp or purchase thru PRICELINE's "retail" product (where you were given the price and knew the name of the hotel before your purchase)

I think something near the beach and under $50 can be a tough call... as Colfax points out there is no strategy with PRICELINE to ensure something near the board, and a quick search of the San Diego area on HOTWIRE doesn't show anything around the $50 mark with a Beachfront or Beach Access icon.

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
