Colfax Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 cibung,Welcome to the board. You posted your bid history in a different thread. I'll copy what you wrote there to this thread, so all the info is in one place. You wrote:Hello everyone,I have actually been bidding for 4* USE in the past 5 days, for the exact same dates, starting my bid from $87 to $95, but had always been rejected. I was not aware that there is going to be a festival, until I read this thread.I wouldn't mind staying at a 3.5* at all, but I've been wondering how I could modify my bids, so that I can have more than 2 bids everytime? I've just tried bidding on a 4* tonight, and then 3.5* at $78, both were rejected (of course..).First to answer your question about rebidding for 3.5*...you have FOUR rebid zones for 3.5* in SF. Those are zones that ONLY have hotels less than 3.5*. Once you've identified those four zones (you can post their names here if you want confirmation you've got them right), someone will explain how to use rebid zones to get more than two bids per session. For more info see this thread:Priceline Rebidding ExplainedAsk if you have any questions. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
Colfax Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 As for the 3* in USW...Those icons haven't been reported to the board before but my best guess is that this is Best Western Hotel California. Hotel Diva is another possibility, but I lean towards Best Western. But before purchasing a HOTWIRE 3* for $104 maybe you want to bid to $104 for a 4* or 3.5* on PRICELINE? I think you've only bid in USE zone. Are you interested in bidding for 4* in USW too? Are SOMA and/or Embarcadero zones okay?If 3* hotels are allright then maybe you can win a 3* in USE or USW on PRICELINE around the $65-80 range.
cibung Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 Thank you very much Colfax, for your input. My first choice will be USE, based on a friend's recommendation (this is my first time in SF). My first choice will be a 4*, but since my bids had been rejected, I've started looking for a 3.5*. However, I had been bidding with a maximum of $95, not being aware of the upcoming festival. I will take your advice to rebid for the 4* and 3.5*, before buying from hotwire. I went to check hotwire because my trip is only 3 days away and I'm getting desperate. As for the areas, please confirm if I had identified the right ones. They are: Marina, SFO North, Fisherman's Wharf and South San Francisco.Again, thank you very much for your help. I will update this thread with my bids from today and the result.
thereuare Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 As for the areas, please confirm if I had identified the right ones. They are: Marina, SFO North, Fisherman's Wharf and South San Francisco. No, this isn't correct as the Fishermans Wharf zone does have 3.5* rated hotels (the other zones are currently re-bid zones at the 3.5* level)To determine your other re-bid zone, list each zone in the area and the highest rating available in each zone so we can see where you're missing this additional re-bid zone. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. cibung Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 So I rebid last night, however since this is a hotwire forum, I'm going to update the thread in the priceline forum.
cibung Posted June 21, 2010 Author Report Posted June 21, 2010 4* or 3.5* USE June 23 - June 26The following was my bid from last night after bidding for a few nights with no success. Thank you for thereuare for reconfirming the areas. And I just checked again on PRICELINE, it should've been Civic Center instead of Fisherman's Wharf. After a few nights bidding with no success, I rebid again last night adding a 3.5* in my options4* USE $89 - rejectedadded USW $90 - rejectedadded Civic Center $92 - rejectedadded Marina $94 - rejectedadded Fisherman's Wharf $95 - rejectedadded SFO North $96 - rejectedadded South San Francisco $97 - rejectedadded 3.5* $98 - rejected I'll try again tonight, increasing my bid up to $104.
thereuare Posted June 21, 2010 Report Posted June 21, 2010 Please keep all posts for this stay in this thread... if you ultimately use PRICELINE we'll edit the topic title to reflect your win and move the entire thread to that section of the board.Sorry to see your bids weren't accepted, but glad you figured out your re-bid zones.HOWEVER, note your current bidding is not ideal either, as you lower your star rating on the last bid and increase your bid, which is not recommended. See this thread for more information as to why: If You Lower Your Star Level then Lower Your Bid Amount. If you let us know which zones are acceptable, and your maximum bid at each level, we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Also, is the Fishermans Wharf zone acceptable... as it appears you included it in your 3.5* bidding but i don't think you listed this as a preferred zone previously. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
