michaelv976 Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 I'm travelling to Canada late July, early August and went and made 5 of 6 location bookings before realising what is possible through HOTWIRE / PRICELINE and assistance through this forum. I'm now wondering whether it's worth cancelling any of my current reservations and trying through Hotwire/Priceline. Note other than Whistler I ensured I had at least two beds as I'm travelling with an old flat mate. Figured HOTWIRE was the way to go to ensure two beds? The following is what I have (and don't have booked) so far:July 29 - July 31: Vancouver - don't have anything yet. HOTWIRE reveals the following for 3 adults (two bed guarantee)4* $145/n - fitness, pool, restaurants, business centre, HSIA and Spa - believe this could be Sheraton Wall Centre as 1st guess (only it and Westin Bayshore show spa icons for 4*, but only Westin has tennis)?3.5* $164/n No smoking, fitness, pool, restaurants, business, laundry, HSIA and nearby tennis - this appears to be Coast Plaza as it said previously 3.5* and matches iconds3* $144/n suite, fitness, pool, restuarants, spa - no idea.Do these rates include taxes or there any way of finding out the full cost prior to accepting?July 31 - Aug 2: Victoria - booked the Harbour Towers (Ho.twire 3*) direct through their website with bonus free parking (we're driving on this trip) for $148US + $21US / night (parking worth $10/n)Hotwire only shows a 2.5* with pool and restaurant (no apparent matches) for $119/n when using 3 adults. When backing off to 2 adults I get:4* $176 boutique, shuttle, no smoking, breakfast, fitness, rest, HSIA and nearby golf - possibly Magnolia sans shuttle, in any case more expensive than current booking.3* $119 fitness, rest, business and HSIA. UNsure as Harbour Towers and QUality Inn also have quite a few other icons I would have thought they would display.Aug 2 - Aug 4: Whistler - booked Pan Pacific Whistler Village (Mountainside Hotwire version is 4* - I think this would be too) through Expedia for $152US + $18US tax / night inc breakfast but we only got a queen and sofabed here so possibly not 3 adult criteria. HOTWIRE shows the following:4* $127/n resort, slopeside, fit, pool, rest, business, laundry and HSIA - possibly Hilton minus golf, tennis & spa4* $144/n condo, suite, studio, kitchen, no smoke, housekeeping, A/C and Fitness - not sure3.5* $99/n pool, rest, laund, HSIA, golf, tennis, kitchen & spa - appears to be Summit Lodge ($134 if 3 adults used to search)3* $99/n fit, pool, golf and tennis - appears to be Whistler Village InnAug 4: Kamloops - not important as doesn't appear to be much choice. Already have Thompsons for about $135US Aug 5 - Aug 7: Jasper - appears that neither HOTWIRE or PRICELINE offer anything in Jasper under deals section (or BB lists). I ended up booking Best Western through their website for $236US + $26US tax per night. Not exactly cheap given it's only rated around 2-2.5* but that was for a slightly bigger room to ensure two separate beds.Aug 7 - Aug 9: Banff - booked Banff Aspen Lodge through their website for $162US + $17US tx per night inc breakfast and I think two beds. Going for 3 adults through HOTWIRE gives what looks like 2.5* Banff Hidden Ridge for $189 and 3* with no details. Two adult search yields 2.5* condo (possibly Banff Hidden Ridge) for $159US/n, the same unidentified 3* hotel (no amenities) for $126 and what looks like the 2.5* Inns of Banff for $96/nI realise I'm possibly meant to start a new thread for each location so probably asking too much at once? If so, then assistance with Vancouver would be great and if any others stand out where good savings could be made then even better. Thanks in advance for any help.Mike
thereuare Posted June 7, 2010 Report Posted June 7, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Yes, please use a separate thread for each leg of your stay.Besides searching for 3adults, i would also search for 2adults/1chid, as this should give you the same bedding situation (given it's still triple occupancy) and can sometimes be cheaper than 3adults since some hotels don't charge for the 3rd/4th guest if they are children. As an example, in doings so, the 4* hotel above (assuming it's on the Downtown West zone) goes from $145/nite down to $115/nite. (yes, my best guess would be the Sheraton Wall Centre)Also, note that when searching HOTWIRE for triple occupancy it ensures separate sleeping accommodations, which usually means two beds, but in some circumstances the second 'bed' could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway, etc. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know if/how you'd like to proceed for this leg of your trip and we'll take it from there. michaelv976 Posted June 7, 2010 Author Report Posted June 7, 2010 From my other post I had indicated that searching Hotwire for Vancouver during the period Jul 29-31 (2 nights) yielded a particular 4* hotel with fitness, pool, restaurants, business centre, HSIA and Spa. Looking at the BB listings it appeared as though this was the Sheraton Wall Centre. Previously I had used 3 adults as the search criteria to ensure two separate beds. Thereuare suggested I use 2 adults + 1 child as the rate would usually drop. I tried this and the rate went from $145/n to $114/n.I decided to try my luck with this and it did indeed turn out to be Sheraton Wall Centre. Thanks for your help with this one Thereuare.RegardsMike
