Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $48.00

Subtotal: $48.00

Taxes and Fees: $14.29

Total Charges for Original Reservation*: $62.29

Bid history: In order to isolate the cheapest 4* in the Perimeter area, I began bidding for a 4* in Perimeter @ $39 and adding non-4* areas in $1 increments as each bid failed. After 10 iterations, I finally hit the W Hotel; this appears to be a new low for this hotel, judging from recent history posted on the board. I also "added another night" for the same price using that post-win PRICELINE option and was successful.

Comparisons:

Hotel's website cheapest room for these dates = $116.10 for both or $129 for Fri alone

Hotwire's cheapest 4* (happens to be Perimeter) = $59 for both or $68 for Fri alone

I began my bidding using this site's PRICELINE link. Please do so too when starting your own PL bidding. Thank you.

The "W Atlanta - Perimeter," an alleged 4* hotel, had a number of problems and is thus not a 4* or even 3.5* in my opinion, even though we were complementarily "upgraded" to the top floor, which is designated "preferred." What was "preferred" about it, compared to any other floor in the hotel, I am not sure. They did have some green apples on a platter in the hallway in front of the elevators and a little sign that said "preferred level." I can say that this hotel certainly showed its signs of wear and the maintenance, along with attention to upkeep details, was not on par with the supposed quality of this establishment.

On top of this, they are trying to charge $12/day to self park in their own parking lot and this is out in Perimeter! I find that highly audacious.

They charge $10/day for in-room internet access, which is actually free if you join the SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) program, like some other mid-grade hotels offer, but which they neglected to mention when I initially asked about cost (which isn't clearly posted/stated anywhere obvious). Free lobby wireless is also available (I figured that out from observation; they neglected to mention that option either).

I don't know that I would choose to stay here again under normal circumstances, if I had an option to stay somewhere better in the area for comparable money. I certainly would never be so desperate as to pay the $269+ that they are apparently commanding for Sun-Thu stays (as seen in the prices for nights immediately after we left). In fact, they have no rooms available tonight. This hotel is certainly not in the same league with its sister Starwood property in Buckhead, The St Regis, which we visited this weekend. The St Regis is magnitudes nicer but about 50% more expensive (if you're going to pay $270/nt, might as well go $385/nt for vastly greater luxury).
