NHL Fever Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 I made somewhat complicated reservations in Halifax, planning for family arriving and leaving at different times, along with being away from Halifax for the nights of July 30 and 31. I needed a room for July 28, and 2 rooms for July 29. In addition I needed 2 rooms for Aug 1 - 3 and one room for Aug 4 -5. This appears to require 4 separate bidding wins, 3 of which I won at $58 after $50 and $55 were rejected.I ran into snag after 3 bookings: First I successfully booked a room for Aug 1 - 5 first at $58. Then I booked another room Aug 1 - 3 for $58. Next I booked one room July 28 - 29 for $58. Finally I needed only one additional room for July 29 only, but it did not accept $58. Using the multiple zoning technique I bid up to $64 which was rejected as well, now I'm out of permutations for a *4 until tomorrow. To be clear, it was not because of too many attempts on the same options, it was because it would not accept the price. I resorted to bidding a *3 up to $60 which was also rejected. I am still needing this last day and will try again tomorrow. Some observations and some questions:1) Why did the system suddenly stop accepting the $58 bids?2) Was there a way I could have done this with less bids (could I have booked the whole segmented plan as one bid?)3) Does priceline ever 'run out' of rooms? If indeed they are out of rooms for $58, if somebody cancels their conventionally-booked room at the same hotel, can a room open up on priceline?4) I also tried booking rooms for Charlottetown which I eventually gave up on, but I did notice something very interesting. I was able to bid 4 times in a row on the exact same criteria (*2, zone 1) and dates, adjusting only the price each time. Normally you need to adjust some other aspect of the bid apart from the price in order to re-bid. What was this not required for Charlottetown bidding? Does the system has glitches like this? Thanks
yellowdog Posted May 28, 2010 Report Posted May 28, 2010 Thank you for sharing your result with the board!Enjoy your stay. Can you please post your other stays in separate topics so they can appear in boards Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.1) Why did the system suddenly stop accepting the $58 bids?It could be that the hotel only have x amount of rooms loaded into PRICELINE for a certain rate. And you bid for several difffrent dates. Remeber that rates are date specific and PRICELINE room inventory is based on current bookings from the hotel.2) Was there a way I could have done this with less bids (could I have booked the whole segmented plan as one bid?)No, you can't bid for multiple dates at the same time.3) Does priceline ever 'run out' of rooms? If indeed they are out of rooms for $58, if somebody cancels their conventionally-booked room at the same hotel, can a room open up on priceline? If the hotel is booked solid and the they get a cancellation is there a slim chance that this room will go to PRICELINE since rooms are in demand.4) Does the system has glitches like this? No, and i don't what happend in your case. I have never heard this before. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Yellowdog.

Does the system has glitches like this?I've heard of this happening every so often, although i've never experienced it myself... i believe it was a temporary glitch in the system. We've used this thread to reflect your 7/28-7/29 purchase, can you please start NEW TOPICS for your other purchases so each of those wins will be found when users search the topic titles on the board and so each will have a link in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. You can just post the win data so you don't have to explain the situation above... or you can add a link to this thread for anyone who wants to read the background on the multiple bids/stays.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.THANKS! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
