Wise Enough Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Hi everyone,I'm travelling to LA on the 27th and checking out on the 30th. I don't know LA that well, and I'm after some location advice. I would love to stay out at Santa Monica, but it seems quite expensive out there and I don't want Marina Del Ray, which I think has a few threads going at the moment. So I was looking at Beverly Hill area, as that seemed alright in the PRICELINE blurb. I won't have a car, so need to be centralish. Moving onto Anaheim after this, so mainly looking to just do the normal touristy things in LA. Any suggestions on which areas are appropriate?I'm looking at 4* and willing to spend up to $150 a night, but so far have only bid up to $120.ThanksRebecca (I'm still trying for San Francisco so can't close that thread!)
Colfax Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 Beverly Hills-West Hollywood isn't the easiest zone without a car, as it's very spread out, low density, and the Metro (train) doesn't go out there. There are buses but they can take a long time. If cabs are in your budget then BH-WH is good; but otherwise Downtown and Hollywood zones would be easier without a car since they're well served by Metro. Best 4* price will probably be in Downtown LA zone. Hollywood usually costs more than Downtown but Hollywood's more central if you're planning to spend a lot of time in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood and/or Santa Monica areas.Let us know your zone preferences and someone can advise. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
Wise Enough Posted May 21, 2010 Author Report Posted May 21, 2010 I didn't realise the metro didn't go there, glad I asked. Will probably aim for hollywood then, with downtown as a backup. I appreciate the help. :)
Wise Enough Posted May 21, 2010 Author Report Posted May 21, 2010 I've been having a bit of a think and have changed my mind, think I really want to stay at Santa Monica. I think I will just suck it up and pay full price. Its only for 3 days, it won't kill me.

Wise Enough Posted May 22, 2010 Author Report Posted May 22, 2010 I have been doing some looking (using your links of course) and I was thinking the Georgan or Le Merigot. Any opnions on those? I want to be really close to the beach. :)
Colfax Posted May 22, 2010 Report Posted May 22, 2010 the Georgan or Le Merigot. Any opnions on those? I want to be really close to the beach. :)If you don't get the response you want here, Wise Enough, look on TripAdvisor for more reviews. One easy way to see how far certain hotels are from the beach is search "Santa Monica" on Expedia. In Map View it's clear which hotels are near the beach.Let us know what you come up with.

Wise Enough Posted June 2, 2010 Author Report Posted June 2, 2010 I know I have changed my mind continually but I have finally got something! Ended up following original advice and staying in Hollywood. Got the W Hollywood for $120, really happy with that, looks super funky. The webiste has it for $380, so I definatley come out ahead. I just couldn't justify the full prices on Santa Monica. The W has a pool and I have an imagination, thats good enough. Thanks everyone for all the help, and of course I used the PRICELINE links provided!
AaronJB Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 Congratulations on your success. :)Can't beat $120 for a very nice new W property in the Summer! Glad you are pleased with the result.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
