vandelay Posted May 20, 2010 Author Report Posted May 20, 2010 We -- two adults and two children (well, one is 19 and the other is 6) -- will be visiting SF 6/23-6/25. If I bid for a room on Priceline, what is the risk of getting a room that is only for 2 people? Our 6-year-old can sleep with his parents, but the 19-year-old will need a separate bed. I'm worried I'll score a great deal only to find that the room has two twin beds or one full bed.

Some hotels (like Nikko or Westin St Francis) will upgrade you to two beds for an additional fee, around $20-25/night. Some hotels may not be able to upgrade you to two beds even if you're willing to pay.HOTWIRE would probably be safer for you. If you search "2 adults/2 children" or "3 adults/0 children" you're guaranteed bedding for that many. We'll try to ID if you find something interesting.Which PRICELINE zones are you interested in? General budget?Your chances of getting two beds on PRICELINE are much better in Fisherman's Wharf zone than Downtown. But "chances are better" still isn't "guaranteed".PRICELINEHOTWIRE
vandelay Posted May 21, 2010 Author Report Posted May 21, 2010 Thanks for the info, Colfax. I think I will try HOTWIRE, then.I'm interested in USE and USW at under $100 per night. I'll keep you posted.

vandelay Posted June 14, 2010 Author Report Posted June 14, 2010 This seemed to me to be the best deal for 2 adults and 2 children (one teen, one grade schooler), in the geographical area we wanted, even though I knew Cova Hotel was not in a great area for walking. Thanks for this board!

Colfax Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 vandelay, I hear Cova's nice since renovation (I haven't stayed) but it's in a dodgy part of town, aka the Tenderloin. Cova's not in the worst part of the Tenderloin, but still...if you walk around you'll get an eyeful. If you like Vietnamese food Little Saigon--only a couple blocks long--is around the corner from Cova on Larkin Street.Even though Union Square's only 6 or 8 blocks from Cova--walking distance--if your family's not familiar with SF I'd recommend taking advantage of Cova's free shuttle service, rather than walking. Or take a cab for five bucks, at least until you get a feel for the area. There are plenty of characters along those 6 or 8 blocks.Cova gets pretty good reviews (4 out of 5 on TripAdvisor) so I expect you'll be pleased with the hotel itself. Just be aware of the area so you can plan accordingly and enjoy your SF trip.Cova's been coming up more lately but we haven't gotten much feedback yet. If you think of it let us know how Cova was after your stay.
