Braindrain Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 I first tried priceline.com (thru the savingsbarn link) at $125 USD. Rejected and was "suggested to up my bid by $22 - one time thing". I didn't want to chance a re-bid with Prague West since there are some 5* hotels there so I went to priceline HK.Got it for 7/1 - 7/5.Prague Marriott Hotel V Celnici 8 P O Box 726 Prague, 11121 Czech Republic420 2 2288 8888 Your Offer Price: HK$1015 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 Subtotal: HK$4060 Taxes: HK$202.64 Processing Fee: HK$75 (per offer) Total Lodging Charges: HK$4,337.64 With exchange, that's about $139 USD/night (taxes/charges in). The original bid was $1015 HKD/night, about $130 USD/night.The lowest price on the Marriott website, right now, is 169 EUR or about $220 USD/night.
thereuare Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks for the post and the try thru SavingsBarn... most importantly glad you ultimatley found success and can now put the planning for this stay behind you.An expensive hotel city, but at least Priceline makes it a bit more affordable.Enjoy your stay! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
WillTravel Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Priceline HK allows you to tell, more or less, what Priceline's actual price was (this was the system that Priceline US used in the past but does no longer). Prague hotel tax is 5%, so working through the math a bid of approximately $1013.20 HKD would have worked. But you have to round up, so it's hard to get any closer than what you did!
Braindrain Posted February 15, 2005 Author Report Posted February 15, 2005 Actually, $130 USD * 7.7998 = $1013.97 HKD. I thought, what the hell, and put in $1015! :)
WillTravel Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 LOL - I would do the conversion after the tax calculation for maximum scientific precision.
LoneStar Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 Looks like I'll be spending a night in Prague this summer. Would rather not spend more than $100, but I will if (value wise) it beats the alternatives. The two priceline zones look big. What are my opportunities and risks? FWIW, I'd be willing to take a well-located 3 star at the right price, but given the size of the zones, that seems incredibly risky.Any other good sources of discounted Prague rooms? Or am I better off researching the small (and cheaper) b&b-like properties and picking one?
LoneStar Posted May 15, 2005 Report Posted May 15, 2005 I did some fiddling with priceline packages and I tested a one night stay in Prague for the night I want (imagine actually flying all that way for a night, but whatever!). Surprisingly, the package with the 4 star Hilton comes in $79 cheaper than the package with the 5-star Marriott. That doesn't seem too logical -- shouldn't the difference only be about, say 40 bucks?I did unsuccessfully bid $70 the other day for a 4-star, so maybe I'll go up an extra 5 bucks every 3 days and see what happens. If I can get the Hilton for under $100, that probably beats all other Prague hotel options.EDIT by thereuare: win posted here: PRAGUE MOVENPICK
