Tellurian Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Hoping to get San Mateo Marriott, currently listed as only 4* in Priceline San Mateo zone. (I know, no guarantees) However, there have been past posts of winning the Sofitel, which looks to be at the far edge of the zone. More recent wins of the Sofitel and the current listing of Priceline "known" hotels, currently puts the Sofitel "safely" in the San Jose (Redwood City) zone. Any advice? Thanks in advance; I will book through the Better Bidding links if I decide to take the risk. (Also, nothing against Sofitel, it's just further from where we want to be the night of 5/26.)
Colfax Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 The Sofitel is in the Redwood City zone. You can't win it if you bid in the San Mateo zone. Please use this PRICELINE link if you bid.

There are posts of wins here that id the Sofitel as being in the San Mateo zone, so I am wondering if Priceline could change the zoning of the Sofitel back to San Mateo from Redwood City or even use it in both zones, as it appears to be on the line.
Colfax Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 A hotel can only be in one zone at a time.Sofitel used to be in the San Mateo zone. Now it's in the Redwood City-San Carlos zone, and it has been for over a year. PRICELINE could adjust zone boundaries again at any time, so you need to check the map just before you bid.I just mapped the Sofitel's address (233 Twin Dolphin Drive) on Mapquest and it's still in the Redwood City zone---a few blocks outside the San Mateo zone's boundary. I think the Sofitel's correct zone will be more apparent to you if you look at PRICELINE's map of the Redwood City-San Carlos zone, rather than their San Mateo zone map.
Tellurian Posted April 27, 2010 Author Report Posted April 27, 2010 Thank you for clarifying and checking the zoning lines. I appreciate the intel.

Bids (through your PRICELINE link) of $65 and $85 were rejected. Will wait to try again at a later date, as have a fully flexible rez here at a rate of $125, so it's not worth going up much more at this point for a prepaid opaque rez.

scottlevin Posted July 23, 2010 Report Posted July 23, 2010 If you bid San Mateo you won't get the Sofitel.
Tellurian Posted July 24, 2010 Author Report Posted July 24, 2010 If you bid San Mateo you won't get the Sofitel. Thanks - the stay was in May. I never did get a price drop, so kept with my $125 direct reservation. The property was fine for our purposes. It was great being across the street from a Trader Joe's (as we had to grocery shop for homebound friends we were visiting) and the lobby Starbucks hit the spot in the morning before we shuttled to the airport. Some of the staff is a little clueless; I called ahead to ask about a refrigerator and was told that only the suites have them, but upon arrival, our decidedly not-a-suite room had one. Go figure!
AaronJB Posted July 24, 2010 Report Posted July 24, 2010 Thank you closing the thread; please use the links in the site's support/travel links to start regular rate purchases.Glad to hear that this was a mostly fine stay, and having a Trader Joe's nearby is always good.
