castro211 Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 RomeCentral4* or 3*checking in 4/21/2005checking out 4/28/20052 personsDoes priceline ensure a private bathroom ?Seems like many hotels in Rome have shares bathrooms
WillTravel Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 You'll get a private bathroom with Priceline. In my opinion, Priceline is not generally a great bargain for Rome. You can get good deals directly or through other services if you do a lot of research, and you'll get control over your location, which for me is very important in Rome. What price range are you thinking of? What is your feeling about taking taxis, public transit, and walking between attractions?I'd suggest starting by getting a good backup reservation first, before you start bidding. That will give you an idea of what price is reasonable to bid.
castro211 Posted February 7, 2005 Author Report Posted February 7, 2005 My price range is <$120 US/night I already tried Priceline Central Rome for 5* (LOL) and 4* hotels. Rejected twice. (waited 72 hrs and tried again)I dont mind taxis, public transport or walking. I will be renting a car for atleast a couple days to visit Pacentro (my wife wants to see it)I saw you suggested Hotel Julia which seems fine. But I really dont want to pay those prices.I might be outta luck for a good deal huh ??Thanks for the priceline answer.
WillTravel Posted February 7, 2005 Report Posted February 7, 2005 If you are willing to bid $120/night, that means you will get up to a price of about $130/night with fees - that's about 100 Euros, which doesn't go too far in Rome for a double. You could get a room in a convent with private bathroom for that price, most likely, and it would be reasonably well-located. But some have fairly early curfews. You could probably find a hotel near Termini for that price too. What I liked about Hotel Julia is that because it had a good breakfast and I could walk everywhere, I had a very good start to the day. If you stay near Termini, it will take longer to walk everywhere, or you will have to pay for taxis, or you will have to deal with the buses. There are some B&B options to look at also.EasyClickTravel has a hotel that looks fine and is convenient to the Vatican - Hotel Adriatic. But I couldn't find any reviews. If you want to bid for a 3* hotel, I'd just keep in mind there's a good chance you could do better for the same price on your own. The star rating won't necessarily matter that much. castro211 Posted February 8, 2005 Author Report Posted February 8, 2005 Thanks a lot WillTravelYou have been very helpful. One last question. May I know how much you paid for your nights at Hotel Julia and the approx dates of your stay. ??
WillTravel Posted February 8, 2005 Report Posted February 8, 2005 I paid 50 Euros per night, which included a nice breakfast, and my stay was Jan. 4-9, which is partly in high season and partly in low season. But that was a small "economical single" with a partial ensuite bathroom, and a full private bathroom down the hall. All the double rooms have full ensuite bathrooms. The cheaper rooms are noted to be small. The cheapest rate I've seen for those is around 90-100 Euros per night, but you may be going at a time which is more expensive. If you are interested, I'd read the reviews at TripAdvisor. I was very happy with everything, but I did have in mind that a 3* hotel in the historical center of Rome would be different than a standard 3* American hotel.
castro211 Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 Started at $170 then tried 180 then 190 all using free rebids.I got a question though. Does my reservation include breakfast ?I am assuming no, at it seems the breakfast is about $25 per person if added to a reservation through the hotels website.I previously sought help for a 4* and 3* but thought what the hell its my honeymoon so I got this. Atleast for the first 2 of the 7 days there.
WillTravel Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 This is a good deal for a 5* hotel and it has great reviews.I really doubt this includes breakfast, and the price of breakfast at a 5* hotel is usually very high. But no worries - you can just go to a nearby bar or cafe every morning and get something pretty reasonable. You can walk most places in Rome from this location, and it's very easy to get to the Vatican just by taking the metro Line A from the nearby Spagna stop to Ottaviano or Cipro.Have a great time!
castro211 Posted February 14, 2005 Author Report Posted February 14, 2005 Thanks for the info. I will certainly seek breakfast elsewhere. Thanks again
