thereuare Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Have you checked the Hotwire Hotel List for any possible matches? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and your searches too! Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
TimOnTheVeranda Posted April 16, 2010 Author Report Posted April 16, 2010 Yes, I checked. There don't seem to be any exact matches. The 2 Culver City ones are particularly hard to match, since there's no official heading for that neighborhood on the page you linked to.
Colfax Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 I'll get you started with a couple I can ID easily:3* Hollywood: looks like Ramada Hollywood near Universal.2* Hollywood: impossible to ID. There are a dozen or more 2* motels in Hollywood that fit. It's probably a Travelodge, EconoLodge, DaysInn, Super 8, or something along those lines.2* Culver City: likely Extended Stay America. What are you looking for? Your hotel choices are scattered all over town.
TimOnTheVeranda Posted April 16, 2010 Author Report Posted April 16, 2010 I'm looking for a cheap-ish hotel near:The Mint6010 West Pico BoulevardLos Angeles, CA 90035-2625Don't mind if it's a 2 or 2.5 star hotel.Based on the hotwire map of neighborhoods, that address is near the southeast corner of West Hollywood / Beverly Hills, but the address is actually not in any region Hotwire lists as a neighborhood. So I figured any of these 4 neighborhoods would probably be close enough: West hollywood/bev hills, century city, mid wilshire, and culver city. I'm not so familiar with the area though, so if you have any recommendations I'd really appreciate it.Thanks.
Colfax Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 Is one bed enough? PRICELINE usually beasts HOTWIRE on price, but Priceline only guarantees one bed. If one bed is enough I'd go with Priceline to save money. (Probably bid for 3* in BH/WH zone or 2.5*/2* in Hollywood zone.)Hotels in the PL and HW zones nearest to the Mint usually charge for parking, even the "cheap-ish" motels. Maybe only $5 or $10/night at the 2* motels, but still not free. Which is more important to you---being near the Mint (and probably paying to park) or low price (you can probably get a nicer hotel with free parking if you're willing to drive 20-30 minutes).
TimOnTheVeranda Posted April 16, 2010 Author Report Posted April 16, 2010 One bed would be fine. The lowest total cost (including parking) would be most important. But ideally the hotel should be less than 20 minutes away from the Mint. A distant 3rd as far as importance would be internet access, but I assume I could go to any Starbucks in the area and get free internet.I've never used PRICELINE in the past because I don't like to be committed to the hotel before seeing the amenities, customer reviews, and the actual address. At least with HOTWIRE I'm aware of the amenities and a vague customer review score before I book it.Let me know if I'm being too picky. Thanks a lot for your help and advice, I really appreciate it.
Colfax Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 It's worth paying a premium on Hotwire when you know (or have some idea) what you're buying. But when there's great uncertainty about what you'll be getting on Hotwire, as there is in this case, then you might as well aim for the lower rate often available on Priceline, imo.Hotwire has a mystery Hollywood 2* for $62.To beat that my suggestion is select Hollywood and Beverly Hills/West Hollywood zones and bid $45 for a 2*.If rejected bid $45 for a 1* in the same two zones. If rejected, wait 24 hours and try the same two bids at $50.Hotwire often rates hotels higher than Priceline. Hotwire's 2* "budget brands"---Travelodge, EconoLodge, etc---are often rated 1* on Priceline. Hotwire doesn't have a 1* rating. Regarding internet, most 2* and 1* brands offer free internet now. Please use this PRICELINE link to start your bids, or let us know if you have other questions.
alisoncat Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 pretty sure the 3* in culver city is the four points sheraton. looks like a great deal.
TimOnTheVeranda Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 I ended up booking the 3* in Hollywood when HOTWIRE offered a 48-hour sale. I ended up getting it for $60 + taxes and stuff. The hotel turned out to be:Hollywood Hotel - The Hotel Of Hollywood1160 North Vermont Avenue,Los Angeles,CA,90029I think this is probably the Ramada Colfax predicted it would be. Thanks a lot for your help guys.
Colfax Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 I'm not sure what's going on with this hotel. It seems to be operating under two names now.On Ramada's website it's still the "Ramada Hollywood near Universal".But there's also a new website for the "Hollywood Hotel" at the same Vermont address, and there's reference on that website to "The Hollywood Hotel, a Ramada hotel". It might not be new ownership then, but just Ramada trying to de-emphasize the Ramada affilitation.Hollywood HotelBy either name the hotel's best rate is $111.20 on 4/24 so it sounds like you got a good deal on this.Enjoy your stay.
