nofrills9 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Could you please help to identify this hotel in Hotwire - 3* in Union Square East in San Francisco for $79/night - it has a restaurant and internet. Customer reviews recommended 90%. Could this be the Chancellor Hotel? Period of stay 3rd to 6th May 2010. Many thanks in advance.
nofrills9 Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Could you please help to identify this 4* hotel at Union Square East in San Francisco - it has fitness center, restaurants, business center and internet. Cost $94 per night. Customer reviews 80% recommended. Period of stay 3rd to 6th May 2010. Could this be the Parc55? Thank you.
Colfax Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 The 3* in USE has a 4.5/5 TripAdvisor rating and that matches Chancellor. But Orchard Hotel also has 4.5 TA and a restaurant, so it could be that too. Neither hotel has been reported on Hotwire before, so there's no history to go on. (The 3.5* Orchard Garden Hotel in the Hotel List is a different hotel from the Orchard Hotel.)So I don't know.As for the 4* that's a very common combination. Grand Hyatt, Parc55, Westin Market, and Palomar all use it. But the 4/5 TripAdvisor rating only matches Westin Market or Parc55, so it's probably one of those two.Rates look low for your dates and I think you can win a 4* on Priceline for less than $94...maybe $70's? Or a 3* for less than that. Is one bed enough? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
nofrills9 Posted April 7, 2010 Author Report Posted April 7, 2010 Thank you, Colfax, for your help. I am from Australia but will be travelling with my sister who is living in California. I am taking my sister for a short holiday break. I have read very good reviews about the Chancellor and I like its location as we will be doing a lot of walking (I don't dare to drive in the US). But the Chancellor only has a queen bed, and the Parc55 has a king bed. I guess if I got the Chancellor I could phone and ask for a room with 2 single beds.I am not ready to book yet, but when I am I will use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE link you have provided.
yellowdog Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 nofrills9I guess if I got the Chancellor I could phone and ask for a room with 2 single beds.Yes, you can do that but there's no guarantee that the hotel will honor your request. You can also search for 3 adults to secure 2 separate sleeping arrangements. Just post back in this thread when you're ready to book and plans are firm and we'll have a look at this arrangement for you.Yellowdog.PS. Please follow-up this thread with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancell your trip, etc.
Colfax Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Sounds like a fun trip, nofrills9. I'm glad you brought up that you're travelling with your sister and prefer two beds. The Hotwire searches I did assumed "2 adults/0 children" which only guarantees a room with one bed. To guarantee two beds you have to search on "3 adults/0 children".When I switch from "2/0" to "'3/0" the price of the 3* in USE goes from $79 to $299! And the 4* in USE goes from $94 to $262! You can't purchase for "2/0" and rely on the hotel being able to upgrade you to two beds, especially not near Union Square. If they do upgrade there may be an additional charge.I can't research rates now but sometimes when you need two beds in SF booking a hotel with two beds conventionally (not on Priceline or Hotwire) can be less expensive, and you can choose the hotel.
nofrills9 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Report Posted April 13, 2010 If the bed is a king size bed, then there will not be a problem with my sister and me sleeping on the same bed. If not, then I will request for 2 single beds.I tried to bid on PRICELINE for a 4* in USW-Nob Hill area, and hope to get the Parc 55 as I have seen others winning this hotel. I bid $70 for 5/2/10 to 5/6/10 but it was too low and I was not successful. Priceline said I have to up my bid by at least $22. I have seen a 4* in USE area which has been identified as Parc 55 at $94. I will try PRICELINE again tomorrow and up my price by $20. If not successful, then I may go with HOTWIRE instead. Fingers crossed!
Gallus50 Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 Hey nofrills - When they ask you to up your bid by $22, it usually means you are quite close. People often rebid for just $5 or $10 more and get a winning bid. Try that before you jump up $20. Also be sure you are utilizing rebid zones; they can help you maximize your bids. SF has quite a few rebids at the 4* level - check out the FAQ's if you don't understand what I'm talking about. I think you'll get what you're looking for. Good luck, mate. Or are you a sheila...? (I have relatives in Queensland, so been there several times.)
thereuare Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 If you're not familiar with, or using your, re-bid zones see this thread for more info: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedHowever, if you're new to the concept it's highly recommended you confirm your re-bid zone(s) with the board before bidding (at the 3* level in San Francisco you have ONE re-bid zone)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. nofrills9 Posted April 13, 2010 Author Report Posted April 13, 2010 Thank you, all, for your replies. I am getting a bit nervous about the bidding but will have to do something sooner or later about a hotel in San Francisco. Once I have done it, I will post the winning bid - hopefully it will be a good choice. I will give Priceline another go today and up the bid by $10 and see.Last night I won a bid for a hotel in Anaheim, I thought it was the Doubletree near the Convention Center. But it was another Doubletree in Orange (near the Crystal Cathedral). I was upset and alarmed but hubby laughed it off and said since I would only be there for 3 nights and so I should stay with it (he is not coming on the trip with me). I am visiting my sister living in Santa Ana.Gallus50: I am a sheila, not a bloke! Hope you like Oz. Although I live in Australia, my siblings are in North America (US and Canada).
nofrills9 Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 Well I bid on Priceline for a 4* hotel in San Francisco. Had hoped to get the Parc55, but got the Hilton on 333 Ofarrell St instead. Not sure if this is good or not. Done now, so cannot change.
yellowdog Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Thank you for sharing your result with the board!Enjoy your stay. Please use the site's HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links to start future purchases.Yellowdog.
Gallus50 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Hilton's a big hotel, but it's fine. Can't imagine it's that different from Parc 55. Reviews on TA are pretty good, so don't worry. Just go and enjoy SF - it's a great town. Don't go towards the Tenderloin, though. It's not so nice and it's pretty close to the Hilton....
