Hotwire Hotel: 3.5* Newark (Airport EWR) Wyndham Newark Airport

I probably could have gotten a less expensive hotel on Priceline, but when I factor in the $30.00 Hotwire Entertainment Book rebate (for purchases $95.00 and over-mine came to $96.95,) it's a pretty good deal. The problem with using Priceline for this was that they do not list amenities, and we needed to have an airport shuttle, as we are getting in quite late -this hotel does have that 24 hours a day.

Nice job utlilizing both services, using the one that works best for the given situation.

Can you confirm the amenities for this property... still can be seen by going to HOTWIRE and clicking the MY ACCOUNT link near the top right of their home page.

I could use some advice. We are staying at the Wyndham Newark Airport (EWR) the evening of March 23; we will be wanting to take an early train on the 24th which will let us off at Penn Station in NYC which, I believe, is quite close to our hotel there, the Barclay Intercontinental. Can I get directions, advice, etc. on how to go about doing this?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Hello again,

We would like to accomplish this as quickly as possible. We will have one wheeling huge samsonite, one carryon, one garment bag, maybe two carry-ons for both of us. I guess we would want to come into Grand Central Station from our hotel at EWR. Is that possible? Do not want to spend as much as taking a cab there, I guess, but may have to do just that if the other ground transportation is inefficient. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Donna

You can't take a train into Grand Central (from NJ)... Grand Central is for points north of the city.

I think your best option taking into consideration price and cost is to take a bus from EWR to Grand Central (operated by Olympia Bus but when you click on their home page you get re-directed to this INFORMATION PAGE). The bus to Grand Central costs $12/pp and will leave you about a 7 block walk to the hotel (or you can take a cab if you have a lot of luggage).

If you go this route i believe the same Olympia bus stops at all 3 terminals, so you may want to have the Wyndham's shuttle drop you off at the first terminal to make sure you get on with the first 'bunch' and there is space for you... of course the downside is that you have to stop at all 3 other terminals :) Also, if you put your luggage underneith the bus, sit at a window where you can see the luggage getting off/on at each stop... make sure your luggage doesn't get off without you.

The other feasible option (especially if you plan on going during rush hour) is to take the train to Penn Station and then a cab to the hotel.

Let me know if you need more info or one of the above will work out well for you.

The Wyndham EWR was a 3.5* on Hotwire when I stayed here two years ago and the rate was $55.00 :)

(if you are a light sleeper, get a room that does not face the airport, they did not replace the windows when it was converted from a Holiday Inn three years ago!)

Thanks for all the transportation info, Thereuare. We have more or less decided to take a "super Shuttle" to the hotel or to Columbia University, which is where we need to be in the a.m. Seems Super Shuttle runs frequently from the airport EWR. to locations in Manhattan. Upon calling them, I found that they charge approx. $19.00 to go from EWR to Columbia University on 120th and 530 West Approx. Seems like a good deal. Has anyone any further info on this shuttle company?

Donna

What additional info do you need?

I've taken them before (EWR to NYC as well as NYC to EWR... never to Columbia) and had no problems other than traffic which is out of their control... almost missed my flight once it was so bad. The one time i was glad to see my flight was delayed.

I was wondering about reliability, efficiency, etc. but found out this morning when we called to have them pick us up at the airport. Super Shuttle said it would be a 45 minute wait; we talked them down to 1/2 hour...still a long wait. I do not know if that is typical. Over the phone, they stated that they were usually "hanging around" the airport. Not today. The trip to Columbia University took approx. 45 minutes; there were 8 people on the shuttle, our stop was first. Definitely a good alternative to a taxi which may cost $60.00 at least for this trip (Super Shuttle was $19.00); also easier with luggage than to take a bus.

Hope this info is helpful. They are online at www.supershuttle.com

I see their blue vans around from time to time. I think you 'hit the nail on the head' in that the problem is that they go from hotel to hotel to hotel... making for quite a ride if you're the first picked up or the last dropped off (same thing happens in Vegas with the shuttle there).

The other company i mentioned above always has busses at the airport and leaves on a set schedule. Earlier i thought you were saying that the company i mentioned also went to Columbia so i'm glad i got it straight now.

Sounds like it worked out pretty good for you... extra 1/2 or so but the savings were good.
