  1. just accidentally clicked on this thread. thats absolute garbage they would call that hotel a 3*, id say most days inn appear to be a 1* lol while i hate to see anyone get screwed regardless of the money maybe you can have some back up plans in the event they do nothing, at least youre only out the $38, which if youre like most of us easily save on most stays.
  2. sorry thereuare i spent like 20 minutes writing that guide i put up so didnt realize you had posted a request first.
  3. Before i begin let me point out that a lot of the resorts can have "resort fees" and parking fees. For example add $30 to everynight you stay at the Omni. Be prepared with this in mind when you plan your budget. Some of the 4*s on priceline are equally as nice, if not nicer, and have much lower fees, something to consider. Heres what you should do ( at least my opinion, ive done it a few times :) ) ....ok i have a few minutes so ill do a good deed and give you your own guide : 1st I like to log on Hotwire and see what they have and the going rates are in the area. This will give you a good idea on where you want to start bidding at and usually a pretty good idea on what you can expect to pay: Prices seem a little higher then average by maybe $10 or $15 a night: Westin Imagine $87 (10 mins from disney but a great hotel with low fees) Peabody Hotel $126 Omni Resort (your area) $111 Caribe Royal Suites (your area but I dont agree with the 4* rating) $101 2nd I like to check out Kayak, this step isnt needed but I like to check anyways. Maybe you will find a cheap published rate. In this area ive seen some or that are close to the hotwire rates: Hilton Bonnet Creek Resort at WDW $107 Hilton WDW Hotel (only non disney hotel to get extended park hours, avg published is usually like $110, not super cheap but only $10 park, no resort fee and free disney park transport so you save that parking too if you dont have annual passes) $130 3rd Its time to start organizing your bids, time to log onto priceline. Ok first as you know you need to find out what zones dont have your desired bidding catagory. With Resorts in Orlando you have the most Rebids since only 2 of the 13 zones have them. Now normally I would recommend taking $5 or $10 off the hotwire rate that you think is comparable in your case $111. So to me my max bid that makes it worth it to roll the dice on priceline (if i like the hotwire hotel) is $100. Now, i like to do $5 bid increments to be able to have a bigger range of bids. Some people like to use $2 or $3 but thats wasting rebids usually to me. So for every rebid you have take $5 off the $100. This takes you to $40. This is the number you start bidding with adding each zone until you win at $100 or less. Now you indicated you planned to start with both resort zones checked. Normally with limited rebids I wouldnt recc you doing that since bids are usually more valuable. but in this case I dont think it will hurt if you dont have a preference of one over the other and like both equally. By the way when you enter bids priceline likes to try to "sucker" you into paying more lots of times. They will put up warnings that you have little to no chance at your price and ask you to re-enter the bid. Ignore it and stay on the same bid amount. Or counter offer with a much higher number (a helpful hint at the most you will have to pay but usually can still get it less so dont take it!) Sometimes they will completely boot you out, just start over at the bid you left off on. I really hope this makes sense and is helpful in your plans. NOW start bidding using the PRICELINE link PLEASE tell me how it turns out lol
  4. great deal for that hotel, next time though if youre not so sure about that price start off with just one of the zones and not 2, that way you dont give away a free rebid if that makes sense. As someone who grew up in teh area and still frequents it, the only downside to that hotel is to come and go you must pass through a pretty busy highway interchange that can also be confusing so if you arent familiar with the area or a timid driver id recc taking your time!
  5. Goldrush my guess as someone whos stayed there recently is that the downtown hotel is the one I stayed at, the Doubletree. Its a little outdated age wise but was still very clean and definitely by far the nicest hotel in Tallahassee. Since the rate dropped to $68 and it has 95% recc id def go with that one!
  6. Yes, lots of deals in the area like this one. Ive never done the 3* but done the 3.5* and 4* places many times and not paid any,if much, more. Also try priceline through here sometime. In that area all the choices are pretty solid. I grew up in the area and frequent it as Im only about 2 hours away now. Glad youre happy! Some of the other bidders would find it helpful though if you gave all the amenities it lists.
  7. Kathy, what are the dates you plan to stay there? if you click all amenities is this all that shows up still? So far my best guess would be the Hilton Garden Inn but if those indeed are the only 2 it could be a ton of others. My advice also: Orlando ratings tend to be a little inflated, usually for not much more you can get a 4* hotel in the same area too and if you use priceline you can definitely get a lot nicer hotel for near that price. One member here just got the Renaissance Sea World Hotel for like $60 a night. Im just not sure what your needs/budget is like. Hope this helps
  8. Could this be the Rosen Plaza hotel? i know the other Rosen hotels like the use the spa icon, maybe they added it to this one? it seems to fit the price point of them as well.
  9. as yellowdog said this is one of the prime times for Disney. Usually one of the best bets to me if not the best near disney is the Hilton in Disney, it actually can usually be booked directly for around$100 a night lots of times, no resort fee, $10 parking, disney shuttle line so you dont have to pay at disney to park, and the only non-disney hotel to have extended hours at the theme park. Your dates of stay HOTWIRE is showing the usual Omni resort nearby for $98 a night, remember they have resort AND parking charges there. Im guessing on PRICELINE you could probably get that or a 4* in the area for maybe $70 or $80. If you know you're going for sure id def just go ahead and do it. These rates are definitely fair and are unlikely to get much better if any.
  10. that appears to be a nice hotel, the dates youre staying there would be helpful though for others bidding! for future priceline bidding, usually when they ask you to rebid at X price, it means you can still get it cheaper. Although you would have only saved prob $5 or $10 a night so dont feel like you got taken advantage of, but every little bit is nice! They dont charge a resort fee there and parking is pretty fairly priced at around $10 a night I think.
  11. While 95% is pretty good im not sure what your budget is. HOTWIRE is showing for 4* level the shingle creek hotel I believe which ive wanted to try out for a good price of $76 per night, they have no resort fee and a pretty small parking charge ($10 a night i think). I think you would definitely like it better then the 2.5* id go on PRICELINE and do 4*s in this area, you really cant go wrong with any of them and youd likely get the best deal if you dont mind the hotel being randomly selected.
  12. $67 is a good price for 4* in this area. 3* in that area is around $55 a night going rate, id def pay the little extra for the nicer spot. Using the trip advisor rating on hotwire im guessing its the Renaissance, Marriott, or it might even be the Boca Club Resort (probably the best place in town). It was also showing $65 for me now. Let us know, id like to find out as I go down that way sometimes! edit: also checked the 3* is $57 for your night and appears to be the wyndam garden hotel from the amenities listed and trip advisor hint which si where i stayed last time and was pretty nice but the 4* was around $122 a night and I payed liek $53, for your $10 difference id def go with 4*!
  13. Not sure of your exact travel dates but now-through middle or end of may is considered Disney (and other theme parks/orlando's) peak seasons so everywhere will be either slightly higher then normal or really expensive. For instance i was searching hotwire to get comparable rates and the peabody was showing over $200 a night for 2 nights around the first weekend of april. Looking at the hotwire list you cant really go wrong with any of the 4*s listed below. Just remember to figure in about $25 and up depending on what hotel you get for resort fees and parking. I like the peabody too but if I can get something comparable for half the price, ill try somewhere new. im guessing maybe you have other friends or family already booked there? if
  14. Its not guaranteed anyone will get the same hotel regardless of the bidding methodology because you or the other bidders might have got the last priceline rooms alotted to that hotel. The bidder has to be happy iwth any on the list. The way on hotwire i was using to tell between the RC and the RSC hotels were their tripadvisor ratings. RC was 3.5 out of 5 and RSC was 4 out of 5. great way to confirm a hotel or help at least narrow it down esp in orlando where there are so many hotels in each zone and having the same listed amenities.
  15. I see youre new here so welcome. Not sure if you have used priceline or hotwire before but a word of advice regarding Orlando hotels is that normally they are ranked 1 star higher then they would be in other cities. Also for that price its not uncommon to see some of the 4* rated hotels in that area regularly going for $50 or $60 a night, especially if you use priceline. With only a 65% recc rating id def pay a little more!
  16. Sorry to take so long to write back Aaron, been really busy! the amenities were casino, resteraunt, pool, fitness, and the spa. I guess oceanfront is gone, I believe they are on the intercoastal anyways.
  17. ok this hotel was for my brother for the dates of 2/17/2011-2/18/2011. This was for an overnight layover stay going from Atlanta to Houston so something clean and safe were the main goals with an additional complication that he was towing a very large trailer so they had to be able to accommodate that. Starting with HOTWIRE link (that I later booked) the best deal by far were the Casino Hotels in the area. They had the IP Hotel for $59 ($70 all in I believe). The amenities matched the list on here. I then checked the Priceline and tried there up to $50 but failed there. This hotel was going for $71 base rate on Kayak I believe so the savings was decent (Anything is nice once youre at a good price point!). The only hotel that was pretty expensive was the Beau Rivage at $299 but its by far the nicest hotel in the area I believe. Although he said the other guests there were a little out there the hotel itself was nice and staff was helpful. The lot for large vehicles is gravel but well lit and has security cameras and is part of the hotel across a small side street. He said it was a good stopover hotel and would stay again.
  18. ok this hotel was for my brother for the dates of 2/17/2011-2/18/2011. This was for an overnight layover stay going from Atlanta to Houston so something clean and safe were the main goals with an additional complication that he was towing a very large trailer so they had to be able to accommodate that. Starting with Hotwire (that I later booked) the best deal by far were the Casino Hotels in the area. They had the IP Hotel for $59 ($70 all in I believe). I then checked the Priceline lists and saw that it and another Casino hotel were the only 4* hotels in town. The 3 other zones had no 4* as confirmed by priceline. I started bidding at $35 and got the probably impossible message and then was rejected, and the same at $40 plus I was booted off. I re logged in and tried $45 and $50 both were failed so I sad screw it and did it with Hotwire. I expected it would have taken more then $9 off the Hotwire rate but being a Casino property I imagine their pricing structure is somewhat different.
  19. This stay is for 2/18/2011-2/19/2011 I made this reservation on behalf of my brother for his friend that just needed a nighttime layover going back to Atlanta from Houston. Hotwire Had the Wingate listed with the same amenities as the other 3* on the list for $59 ($74.xx all in) a night. I knew it was the Wingate by using the Tripadvisor rating. The Wingate was fine and price OK but wanted to see if I could get it or something Similar on Priceline. According to the list its the only 2.5* hotel on Priceline. I could only bid twice so I had to start relatively close to the Wingate price. I was going to do 3* first at $40 then move up to $50 and add the 2.5*. I got the little chance of success message but then I decided to reverse it as I hated to get the Wingate for more then I had to and figured I could add the 3* for the rebid. Used the 2.5* and bid $45 first. Did not have a little or no chance message, I was automatically upgraded to 3* and they accepted the $45 ($59.xx all in) for the Courtyard on the list. Kayak had call for the price of this hotel but pricelines price was $101.xx all in and the same on Marriotts site. Im sure he will find it comfortable for a nights rest and Im happy with the minimum $15 I saved us over the Wingate and $40 over published rates. Hope this helps as I saw very few AL posts.
  20. thereuare is the man to help you. However I wanted to point out a few things based upon my experiences traveling, especially since I frequent Orlando for fun ( i live only 2 hours away). The Lowes resort even at a HOTWIRE / PRICELINE rate is still going to be expensive per night compared to other hotels that offer the same quality. This is because its in the park and theres plenty of people who love to blow money at theme parks and only stay at their hotels. I believe the rated I saw the other day for Lowes or the Portofino was $249 or $299 a room a night. Definitely not worth it under most circumstances. As well the nicer 4* and up properties and most of the 3* and up properties will not feature complimentary breakfast. These are the hotels that are absent of the kitchen that you would not like to see. Im not sure why (maybe you just cook a lot at home and hate it lol) you dont want the kitchen as I too never cook on vacation (or hardly at all for that matter lol) I do appreciate the refrigerator etc to keep wine, water, snacks etc cold. Most of the standard rooms at nice hotels do not have these though so youre ok there. Most of the hotels that serve the free breakfast arent going to be anything like the Lowes property but seem more in line with what you dont mind like carrying your own bags etc. I will say a lot of them might have the kitchen in them though. In Orlando ratings i believe a lot of the hotel classes are very inflated. That is what might be a 3* elsewhere is a 4* in Orlando. Hope this helps!
  21. Using the amentities listed and the hotwire list plus the trip advisor rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars its probably the Rosen Centre hotel. Its a decent place to stay at that price is right but id probably try my luck with resort and/or 4-star ratings in the area. For some reason on both hotwire and priceline the star levels in Orlando definitely seem inflated. This is a good weekend to go and I was considering that one or the following but the rates seem high. Doing some research I realized the presidents day weekend is considered a peak weekend and disney world as are the 2 weekends after.
  22. I stayed at the Wyndham recently, I dont believe they have complimentary breakfast. It definitely was not listed as an amentity when I made my reservation. Hope you stil had a good time though.
  23. Got my review up in the review section for this stay as well as the others I had on tripadvisor already. Hope these will be helpful!
  24. This was my first time using Hotwire and Betterbidding. I was very happy at the savings as you will see in my tripadvisor review of the price difference! Glad to have stayed at a hotel one of the admins has too. GREAT HISTORIC AND UNIQUE HOTEL SOLID 4-DIAMOND PERFORMER!
  25. I stayed here before I began using Betterbidding, this is my tripadvisor review. I notice they are now #1 in Dallas on tripadvisor, while a nice hotel Im kind of surprised but of course its all about how many reviews they get etc. Congratulations to The Adolphus though!
