  1. Back home and really enjoyed the property. For what we paid, it was just a bit more than what any regular room is going to go for in the San Diego area and this was a ton better experience than your typical travel hotel. Would definitely look to come back if the price were right.
  2. Amenities Pool, Complimentary Breakfast, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Golf, Free Parking Taxes and fees raise it to $120 a night, but still a decent deal, especially for 3 people. Best deals the past couple of weeks have looked to be the Baymont and the Wingate, and the Wingate, while brand new, has been getting some poor reviews, so, happy to get what's been consistently rated as solid.
  3. It dropped to $154 today, but, that's just how it goes. It could have just as easily disappeared or gone up as it's short notice and rates have been increasing this week. Hopefully, we don't get stuck in the elevator shaft as some reviews connect the Hotwire and Priceline bookings to lesser rooms, but what's new. Got it for the location, not the rooms.
  4. Ended up booking the Loews Coronado Bay Resort in the Coronado/Silver Strand area through HOTWIRE for $167 a night. It listed full amenities through the Easy View as follows: FULL AMENITIES: Resort, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Laundry, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Childrens Activities, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly Will get hit with $130 in resort fees plus some obscene parking amount. Best non-opaque rate looks to be $279 at the moment. Probably could have done better through PRICELINE as I'm pretty confident it was $164 on the PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals, plus the coupon that's available, but I didn't want to mess with the whole double occupancy thing as it looks like their king rooms are designed to only sleep 2. (no fold-out except in the upgraded suites) We're getting in about midnight the first night, and have to be gone by 8 the next morning for a wedding, so, the easier the better. Still hurts my inner deal hunter, though, and wonder what I could have got it on a bid. Can't figure out how to edit the header and subject or I would update it with the purchase info on Loews.
  5. Thereuare, thanks for the guess on that Residence Inn. Wife and kid love the beach, so, was hoping for that Shores location, but figured it was not a match. We've been traveling some the past 8 years, but I've had to go more with direct bookings so we'd be positive with what we were getting. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on the Embassy Suites for a week now, but the one big drawback is that they have just an indoor pool. I've turned my previous Motel 6 staying wife into a now picky traveler and we're raising an equally spoiled 8 year old. We might end up in Carlsbad at the Sheraton next door to Legoland or maybe down on the Silver Strand if we decide to go full-out beach hotel. I'll post what we get if we go through one of the sites. Seriously, the marketing manager at that Residence Inn is the type of person that ruins the opaque process for all the other hotels that actually give a real discount. If I were to go with the Hotwire deal, by the time they add on all their fees and such, I'm looking at $948 for the 5 nights as compared to booking directly with an AAA discount for a total of $906.
  6. Looks like it's been 8 years since I posted on here. That's what a newborn will do to you, I guess. You become less focused on a great deal and just try to keep everyone happy. I like what you've done with the place in the meantime. The BiddingHelper.com is awesome. Especially the best guess option on the HOTWIRE listing. Looking at a 3* in San Diego - La Jolla area for June 6 to June 11 $154. Have a backup reservation in Carlsbad, but we're getting down to crunch time to keep or cancel. FULL AMENITIES: Pool, Fitness, Complimentary Breakfast, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Kitchenette, Laundry, Golf, Blind Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly. Hotwire is saying "last person got the La Jolla Shores," but obviously that's not a guarantee. The hotel list on here for the area for 3* shows the Shores and the Empress, but the Empress doesn't have a pool, and I can't find anything about "complimentary Breakfast" at the Shores. Any other suggestions? I'm thinking maybe the Residence Inn, which if so, will steam me because it's available for $169 at discounters and book direct at Marriott with AAA of $170 with our Elite benefits. Enough reason to not even stay there at all if it is. Thanks for any assistance. If it is the Residence, we'll keep looking. Hope you get some affiliate payment just for clicking through, because I've done that a bunch in the past week.
  7. I'm pretty sure that what you're seeing happen is the number of beds you need are not available. Hotwire is a bit different than Priceline in that they actually are supposed to look at room occupancy as compared to Priceline that just says it's double occupancy and if you get more than that, you're just lucky. On Hotwire, if you put 3 or 4 people, then according to their website, you're supposed to get a room that sleeps 3 or 4 people, though they do acknowledge that those numbers might be met by the use of fold out couches and the such. So what it's doing is telling you that the Hyatt has rooms with single beds available for your dates, but does not have rooms available that will sleep more than that, and that's why it doesn't show up when you're searching for the adults and the child.
  8. Got this a few days ago for a trip for a sports tournament this July. Listed were Resort, Near Beach, Smoke Free Rooms, Fitness CenterPool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, High-speed Internet Access, Interestingly, my confirmation now also lists Golf Nearby, which I know wasn't on the displayed list when I was looking to buy it. Guessed that it was either the Westin Diplomat or Crowne Plaza, but was betting it was the Crowne Plaza because the Trip Advisor detail they listed was much closer to the number of reviews for the Crowne Plaza. Crowne Plaza has over 100; Westin has over 300. How frequently can this be used to determine which hotel is which? yeah, I blew it and went direct to Hotwire instead of the link. Sorry. Stress of the moment kind of thing. We had been looking at the Westin in the Fort Lauderdale Beach zone, but it had disappeared for us and the quoted rates at several places have really jumped for our dates so we decided to lock this one up. If you guys deserve the referral on something, it's definitely true on the Hotwire purchases because of the value of the hotel list. A lot more than I normally pay and it might have been got cheaper on Priceline, but I didn't want to run the risk of getting just the one bed because we'll have four people per room.
  9. Westin Beach Resort appears to be the closest of the hotels that have been reported and are listed, though the one you're looking at doesn't list children's activities. So it's either a different property or they're not currently listing the children's activities. I was going to suggest checking the Trip Advisor rating to see if it matched the Westin, but it doesn't look like they've listed it, if I'm looking at the same hotel you are.
  10. Nope, not seeing it either anymore. Moot point now. It was 1 night for 2 adults. Doing some more checking, I'm wondering if it was the Embassy Suites possibly. Thanks on the Radisson. I need to do some checking on how long they let you leave a car while flying out.
  11. Drawing a blank on this one so thought I'd see if it sounded familiar to anyone. 3 star in Salt Lake City Suite, Shuttle, comp breakfast, fitness, pool, business center, laundry, high-speed internet Need a place with a shuttle, but I'm hesitant to go into the airport zone because of the Baymont there. I have a family member who swears they have it as a 3 star this summer. The place has a bad habit of putting inventory on Hotwire after they're already sold out of non-smoking rooms and we won't be checking in until later in the evening so don't want to risk it. That would leave the 3 1/2 star in the airport zone with shuttle, fitness, restaurant, business center, and high speed internet. Is that the Hilton stepped up from 3* or possibly the Raddison? Thanks for any insight on this.
  12. Thanks. This is for a business trip for a group from work so I'll probably not get them convinced to give the unidentified hotel a shot. If I do, I'll report it here, otherwise we'll probably just end up booking conventionally. Not everyone is adventurous or as intent on saving money as those of us on here.
  13. Since I hadn't gotten any specific guidance on the London request, I didn't feel the need to update though I have done now. The general information on the use of the TripAdvisor ratings was helpful though I had already noted that in the thread.
  14. Started with Kensington and $80 Added Westminster at $83 Added Financial District at $85 and got the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum which is what I was shooting for. Been there 3 times in the past and I think it's one of the better locations you can get. Not the greatest choices for eats nearby, but it is a block from a Tube station with 3 lines. You can get from there to almost anywhere in the city you'd want to go without having to change lines.
  15. Ended up with the Holiday Inn Kennsington Forum but through Priceline so can't verify if that was the correct hotel or not. Saved about $15 per night per room over the Hotwire price that may have been for the same hotel. I'll post that over in the Priceline forum. One thing I did note about the Hotwire hotels in England - this may be old news but just in case - Hilton properties show up with the VAT apparently included in the price and with fees of just $15 or so from Hotwire added to the total price making it much easier to tell if that's what they are. I suppose other chains could do the same thing so my observation wouldn't be completely valid but it would seem to be a good thing to check if you're wanting the Holiday Inn Kennsington rather than the Hilton Olympia.
  16. Looking for midweek, March 20 through 22 and seeing a 3* that doesn't seem to match anything in the lists. Any suggestions? 3* suite, casino, fitness, pool, restaurant, business center, laundry Thanks.
  17. The amenities match whatever it is that is listed on the hotel list as corresponding to the HolInn Kensington Forum. Restaurant, Fitness, and business center I think they are. 3.5 star also. That's good information to know that the the Trip Advisor ratings are not dynamically linked. That leg of our trip is from April 6 through April 10.
  18. Does anyone have any idea how the Holiday Inn Forum in Kensington is showing up as far as the Trip Advisor ratings and the number of reviews? I'm noting a couple other 3.5* properties with the same amenities in that area, but one shows as a 3.0 Trip Advisor rating and 80+ reviews and the other is 3.5 Trip Advisor with 100+ ratings. The Forum should be a 4.0 with 200+ reviews. I guess they could stop raising it after 100+, but it definitely shouldn't be a 3.5 Trip Advisor rating unless Hotwire is intentionally dropping it to disguise it. There are a couple of Hiltons and a Radisson that possibly fit the descriptions and I'd prefer to avoid those. Any observations to share? Thanks.
  19. April 1 one night. Sorry, subject got chopped off when it posted. Booked for three people and confirmed with their reservation number that it got assigned as a two doubles. Looking forward to this as it seems to be in a great location. With tax and fees, total was $124. Cheapest rate online is 175 sterling plus the VAT. Confirmed the amenities as being accurate as listed in that list. Don't believe it had any data on its Trip Advisor ratings.
  20. The worse I've ever had was a suggested price of $198 for Birmingham, England and then I got my hotel at that star rating for $58 before fees, taxes. The hotel itself had an internet rate near the same rate so my savings were pretty much zilch on that stay, but went with Priceline to see what they hotels they used in the area. On the changing suggested price, I believe it changes based upon the zones that are added to your bid. Don't know if that's an average of the zones or just the lowest of the zones. I'll have to check it out sometime.
