  1. All Priceline bidders should read this post by Betsybug above: It is a timely reminder to all of us how easy it is to end up with something we don't want. Bidding any zone with a higher level than we want can result in an upgrade. In theory you could bid 1* get upgraded to Resort, have to pay resort fees, compulsory valet parking, etc and end up worse off than paying retail for the 1*!!!! Also, if you bid for friends or relations, as many of us do, insist that you bid USING THEIR CREDIT CARD not yours. To put yourself in a position where you are saving them $$$, but they leave you holding it if something goes "wrong" is just allowing yourself to be used. :) Pirate
  2. Tweekerz, For latest news go to http://www.lvmonorail.com/ :) Pirate
  3. Biker, TOBB = The Other Bidding Board Priceline uk should be ok with any Mastercard credit card, not sure about debit cards from any issuer. Why not just try it, worst that can happen is it is rejected. :) Pirate
  4. I had previously won the Westin for this stay (see post on February 28) but Mrs. P was less than impressed, so when Pricline downgraded the Westin she had me cancel and try again. I had bid this last week, getting a counter of $102 but stopping at $85. Opened this time at $87, then $89, $90, $91, got it at $92. No counters at any stage. 2 nights at $92 + taxes etc 27.59 total $211.59. Mrs P happy now! :) Pirate
  5. Anecdotal evidence around this board and others is begining to make me think that we are all going to swallow higher prices this summer than we have enjoyed previously. See post below where bidding the counter was rejected! I have seen this once on another board just recently. Post on "Other countries" here ref 5* in the far east drying up. Many posts detailing bids of up $100 for 4* in Vancouver this summer, that always went for $60 to $70. Similar reports in many busy markets where accurate comparisons can be made that its taking anything from $10 to $30 more to secure rooms than it used to. Any thoughts anyone? :) Pirate
  6. You guys are really suffering with your ailing $, but that is actually a sweet deal. Enjoy your stay in London :) Pirate
  7. aeh, That is precisely what I meant in the previous post. Having run out of rebids on Priceline US I logged off and used internet tools to delete offline content. Then logged on again to Priceline UK and tried again. The site instantly recognised the position and I had to wait 72 hours. I suspect that the only way to beat the system would be two completely separate set ups of computer, Email address, and credit card. But unless you frequently need last minute bookings why bother? It's no big deal to wait 72 hours and bid again. If you are doing your research correctly it should never take more than two tries if Priceline has inventory. If they haven't then all the rebids in the world won't get a room. Pirate :)
  8. I am a British citizen, with a UK address and have used the Priceline US site for a year with no problems at all. I have also "sat in" with several friends and helped them through the bidding process. In all I have booked in excess of 60 hotel nights. I "adjust" the postal address and telephone number as outlined in many posts on this and other boards; using Utah and 99999 for State and Zip code. The only problem I have encountered is sometimes, when helping a new bidder, Priceline rejects their VISA card. However if they have another card from MasterCard or AMEX the same bid will go through no worries. I understand that this is to do with the way that VISA authorises transactions; above a certain limit it checks the billing address as well as the number etc. I also bid for hotels in UK on Priceline.co.uk using the same credit card and Email address without any problem. As an experiment I once logged on to Priceline UK and tried to bid on a city where I had just run out of rebids using Priceline US. I got the "Our records indicate that you have allready bid for this identical trip." message, so the two sites are obviously integrated, and recognised me as the same bidder, yet they seem happy to allow me to continue using either site. I have used the "Utah, Zip 99999" for many years when buying alll sorts of products and services from USA websites; which are often not programed to accept business from "Non US" addresses. I have never encountered a problem doing this. In the end all the vendor wants is to do business and get paid! Pirate :)
  9. I wouldn't normally bid Vegas so far ahead, but I have been monitoring prices for a while and noticed that rates for my stay had suddenly dropped considerably; so I decided to try a couple of low balls. 4* Freemont rejected at $41. 5* Strip rejected at $106 Resort NW rejected at $61 up to $85. Anyone who really wants the JWMarriott for mid-week in August may be interested to know that every fresh bid I opened on this got a counter offer of $102; must be winnable for about $90+! Tried 4* West of Strip at $67, rejected. Added 4* Strip at $69 and got The Westin. 2 nights @ $69 + taxes etc $22.35 Total $160.35 sweet deal :) Pirate PS Used the Savings Barn link.
  10. One night at $44 + taxes etc $14.03 = $58.03 Best price on La Quinta site (prepaid) was $71 + taxes $10.65 = $81.65 Finally got this one, I thought I was going to be bidding it for months! Only two rebids and I orignally started at $31 ~ 32 ~33. After each 72 hour shut out I increased my opening bid by $1. Once the opening bid got to $37 I started to get counter offers. First one was addd $11, which I declined and carried on bidding. As I upped my opening bid the counter went up as well! So at $38 I was invited to add $12!!!!!!!!! Got there the slow way in the end, not a massive saving, but worthwhile. :) Pirate
  11. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Lots of bidding options here, I didn't really mind if I got downtown or north for a one night stop. Started @ $39 and used various combinations to $49. Last rejections were $47 for north and $48 downtown. One night 49 taxes etc 13.36 = $62.36 Best rate on Marriott site was 127 taxes 16.98 = $143.98 :) Pirate
  12. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Edged up from $39, got a counteroffer at $45 to pay $58, which I declined. I had four bids left, and $54 was my self-imposed limit, so I decided to continue 48 ~ 50 ~ 52 ~ 54. Got it at $52. 2 nights @ 52 + taxes etc 21.58 = $125.58 Seniors rate on Hyatt site was 118.60 + taxes 29.18 = $266.38. Reputedly the best hotel in Wichita, and just across from the ballpark, so I
  13. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Rejected at 41 and 45, at 48 got a counter offer to increase to 62. I had one rebid left so tried $56, which was successful. 2 nights @ 56 taxes etc 20.81 = $132.81 Best price on Radisson site, for fully prepaid and $25 cancellation penalty, was 89 18 taxes = $196 Very happy to secure this well reviewed property in a difficult market for a decent saving. :) Pirate
  14. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Happy to receive Vail or Beaver Creek. Started at 86 and used a series of new bids to combine the available rebids with these zones, going up in increments of $3. Refused for both zones at 103. Got Vail at 106. 3 nights @ 106 + taxes etc 50.29 = $368.29 Best price on Marriott site (Prepaid) 3 x 189 + taxes etc 66.90 = $633.90 :) Pirate
  15. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Started to bid this at $31 a while ago. Opened at $35 today and got a counter to add $9 (ie $44). Declined and used rebid of $38, which was accepted. 1 night @ $38 + taxes etc $11.97 = $49.97 Best price on Marriott site was seniors $98 + taxes 11.57 = total $109.57 :) Pirate
  16. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Started at $35, at $39 got a counter offer to go to $51, which I declined. Had lots of bids left so I continued 41,42, got it at $43. 2 nights @ 43 + taxes etc 20.60 = $106.60 Best rate on Doubletree site (prepaid) 2 x 93.46 + taxes 27.76 = $214.67 :) Pirate
  17. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Have tried this one a couple of times recently with no luck. Opened a series of different bids today and got a counter to add $27 on a bid of $75, which I declined. Had plenty of bids in hand so I rebid $85, and then up by $2 per bid, final rejection at $89. 2 nights @ $91 taxes etc 36.41 = $218.41 total. Best price on Westin site was Seniors rate $219 taxes 65.09 = $503.09 Got to put my hands up and say I overbid this one, $75 was supposed to be my self imposed limit and I wouldn
  18. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Started at $30 and used a combination of new bids to edge up. Got it at $37, which seems to be the level when this property comes up. 1 night 37 taxes etc 12.70 = $49.70 Best price on Renaissance site seniors 152 taxes 21.07 Total $173.07 :) Pirate
  19. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Started at $39 and used a series of new bids in various combinations. At $43 for 2.5* Airport I was given a counter offer to raise by $12, which I declined. Kept going up in $1 increments, eventually bid $49 for 2* Central and Airport and was upgraded to 2.5*. Best price on Marriott website was $79 + Tax +$88.43 :) Pirate
  20. I actually bid this a couple of weeks ago, but the stay is six months away so I think its still relevant. Lots of rebids in this zone so I started at $91 and edged up, hoped to get it for $115, but was prepared to bid $125 for August peak time. My last rejected bid was $119 so this must be about the price level at the moment. 4 nights @ 121 + taxes etc 74.60 = $558.60 Hyatt's site has a 4 day special, pay for 3 nights, get the 4th free, but it still comes out at 956 + taxes 109.94 = $1,065.94 Not every day one can save over $500 for a few minutes work, love Priceline! :) Pirate
  21. Hi Thereuare, I have joined this board because of concerns about the future of what I believe is Known as TOBB; the number of new posts seems to be plummeting! Over the past month I have won about 30 hotel nights for our vacation in August. obviously these bids are not now strictly current, but since they are for six months time they are probably still releveant. They have all been posted on TOBB. Would you like me to post these bids here? So far I have only posted bids here that were not allowed on TOBB. Great site, and I am vastly encouraged by the number of posts that are appearing from "first time posters". Maybe you are on the brink of getting past critical mass and really taking off. I sincerely hope so. :) Pirate
  22. Yes it is City Centre of course. I have got so used to the "Two nations separated by a common tongue" concept that I tend to "Translate" automatically when addressing an American audience. Interestingly I find it quite difficult to think in
  23. Stayed here a few weeks ago, noticed there was no review of the hotel on this site so here goes. Stayed 12/27/04 for 2 nights. Check in was efficient, with no mention of Priceline. Asked for a non-smoking king, which was no problem. Room was average size for an old building in London (i.e. smallish by US standards), nicely furnished and clean. The window was small and looked out onto a courtyard, so the room was a little dark, its late December in London! Bathroom was small, but clean and everything worked. Really hot water at good pressure, silent flushing loo, and Hermes soaps etc. Bed turned down each night, my wife's nightdress laid out, background music and bedside lamps turned on. We didn't use the restaurant facilities. The bar was cosy, with excellent barmaid, but prices were high (2 G&T's, 2 small beers
  24. Bid this on Priceline.co.uk, prices converted to $USD. I know this price looks like a horror story to US residents, but UK hotels outside London have not really brought in to the Priceline concept and the best saving is usually 33%. Plus its Grand National weekend in the NW, we had originally tried to stay in Liverpool, but there is not a bed to be had in that city, even at retail up to $370!!!!!!!!! Not many rebidding opportunities so I have been trying this every 72 hours for about two weeks. Started at
