  1. For Poway/Rancho Bernardo -- nothing listed as 4-star here. My 'guess' (knowing the area and looking at the amenities) would probably be the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Nothing else in that general area smacks of 4-star quality, IMHO. For Coronado -- Loews Resort. For La Jolla -- no idea.... :)
  2. SimplyAmy, I plugged in your dates to HOTWIRE.... I'm showing a 3-star Holiday Inn near Sea World for $64/night. It's a very short drive to Sea World/Mission Bay and is relatively close to a lot of stuff in SD. I doubt the hotel will make you 'oooo' and 'awe' and it's certainly not the nicest area you could stay at in SD. But it's good bang for the buck. There's a 3-star Best Western in Old Town for $79/night. A little nicer than ^^. More of a quaint 'old town' feel. Lots of cool restaurants within walking distance. Easy access to I-5, and only about a 7-8 minute drive to Sea World (with no traffic!). There's also a 3-star in Mission Valley for $79/night that appears to be either the Doubletree or the Crown Plaza. Both are solid stays. Hotels are everywhere in this area....so expect more congestion. Easy drive into SeaWorld from either property. PRICELINE might give you some slightly different selections....haven't checked to see.
  3. Hope it works out for you! The combo (flight/hotel) deals at PRICELINE on this hotel are among the best bang for the buck of anything I've seen in San Diego. I suspect because the location is not something particularly memorable. The area is mostly upscale (modern) business parks.
  4. My wife and I stayed here our honeymoon night back in the Summer of '07. We wanted an old 'classic' hotel right in the heart of the Market District, and this one filled the bill. I booked a nice room for about $270/nt on line, then contacted the hotel manager ahead of time and explained our situation....the wedding night and all. When we arrived Saturday evening, we were pretty swamped from all the wedding hoopla. The staff treated us like kings and queens. Unbeknown to me, they upgraded us (free of charge!!!!) to one of their Presidential Suites. Normally these babies go for $1100+ a night....and we didn't have to pay a cent. The tub felt SO good!!! Some of the room could have been updated a bit, but all of the old-world charm was still there. [The website now makes it sound like they've upgraded things since 2007.] Being right on the corner overlooking Market St. was a delight. Our only regret was that we had to be out of there by 8am to catch our plane to Hawaii. I wish we had booked a later flight so we could have enjoyed our room (and the hotel) more. TIP: Be sure to check out the courtyard buffet. Expensive, yes, but it's a grand feast. And what a room!! I'd have no problem putting it right up there with the Bellagio's breakfast buffet in Vegas in terms of quality, and even better ambiance. Definitely, we would have no problem staying there again!!!
  5. Wow, didn't know you could get a Hilton for that low!!! Crazy...
  6. An OK deal for the price. Not the nicest of areas around Mission Bay/Sea World. Expect some airplane noise too.
  7. A really nice Marina area. Sounds like a great deal for $69 bucks. It's a nice airport hotel too, if you're flying in and out....although I've always wondered what the plane noise would be like.
  8. It's a total racket....but what are you going to do??? :)
  9. There aren't many hotels on the Island to begin with.... My "guess" would be: Glorietta Bay Inn for 3.5 stars El Cordova Hotel for 3.0 stars Other possibilites: Best Western Suites Hotel (probably more like a 2.5....but maybe a 3) -- it looks decent from the street. I really don't see how it could be anything else.
  10. I used the PRICELINE link for bidding on this hotel. First bid was $100 (per suggestion over here), accepted. Makes me think I could have even started lower, possibly due to the fact that 9/7 stars the post-Labor Day season....and hence not the summer rush. If you go to the Loews website, the lowest room is listed at $180 (at 10% discount rate). Pretty significant savings, if you're asking me. Business must be down quite a bit, if they are knocking almost 50% off the price. Here's the nitty-gritty: Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $100.00 Subtotal: $300.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $49.89 Total Charges*: $349.89 This definitely seems to be the preferred way to get a killer deal on Coronado, Island. I live in the SD area, and Coronado is a lovely place. [This purchase is for my parents who are visiting!] Secluded from the mainland....and yet not very far away from the Downtown area. If you're looking for an overnight 'quickie' in the SD area, OR don't want the hustle and bustle of the Harbor/Downtown area, this is a very nice compromise. I'm personally curious what the 3 1/2 and 3 star options would have garnered. None listed here so far. There aren't that many hotels on the Island to being with. And I can't imagine them being bad. I wonder if it might be the Glorietta Bay Inn or the Best Western Suites Inn. Glorietta is a better location, but either would be a decent value for $60-$70.
  11. Do any of you guys know if the parking at the Loews or Marriott is free OR if that's an additional fee?? Thanks!
  12. Thanks for providing this excellent site for users. And thanks for correcting my formatting -- I'll try to get it right next time! :) :) :o
