  1. Please post a conclusion to your Philly Topic and we will reply. Bringing closure to an inquiry could help others seeking similar accommodations and is better when done timely.
  2. I have found that PRICELINE will be typically less than HOTWIRE, so you might be able to get a 4* in the Jersey City zone through bidding.
  3. made this reservation for a relative who wanted to stay in Annapolis, but because of a Navy Football game and a boat show, hotels in Annapolis were nearly sold out. Started bidding in nearby Glen Burnie where the highest rated hotel is 2* and bid $42, was accepted immediately. Your Offer Price: $42.00 Taxes & Fees: $13.45 Total Charges: $55.45 The rack rate was $69, so this is not a bad deal. Made my bids through the PRICELINE links on the board.
  4. you can check PRICELINE's "Shop and Compare" side, but its possible that not all hotels participate in the "Name Your Own Price" side. Conversely, not all NYOP hotels particpate in the S&C product.
  5. Please first share the details of your purchase with the board. As per the Rules and Policies:
  6. Quad occupancy in Manhattan is a risk with PRICELINE as rooms are small and you are only guaranteed sleeping accomodations for two. You should do a HOTWIRE search for 4 adults.
  7. The rate for Saturday is $139, but Sunday it drops to $99, so this averages out to $119 per night. Check out the Anchorage Tavern for dinner, its more reasonable than the Crab Trap and the wait for a table is less :)
  8. there is a light rail station near the airport that will take you to the Camden Yards baseball stadium. Many, but not all, hotels offer a shuttle to the station so this may be risky when dealing with an opaque provider such as PRICELINE. You may want to see if you can stretch your budget a bit, or use HOTWIRE in an attempt to identify your hotel through amenities and check to see if the hotel has a shuttle to the Light Rail.
  9. the assumption is that business travellers won't complain because they just put the wifi charge on their expense report and its a way for a hotel to clip guests for another $12. I prefer to stay in 2.5* accomodations when possible because more often than not, they offer free internet and breakfast, about a $20 savings or more.
  10. Welcome! These amenities are a match for the Sheraton Meadowlands. Please use the HOTWIRE links on the board if you proceed and please post your results. good luck!
  11. The hotel operates a free shuttle to the Secaucus Junction train station that runs once an hour on the hour in the mornings and early afternoon. In late afternoon, from 4:00 PM-6:30 pm, the shuttle is used to pick up corporate guests at local business parks. In the early evening from 6:30 PM to 11:30 PM, the shuttle operates hourly on the half hour and makes pick ups at Secaucus Junction at :45 past the hour, so the last pickup is 11:45 pm. Cab fare to and from Secaucus Junction is $15-20 according to the desk clerk I spoke with. The property is definately showing its age, but is still a good deal in this area, just not as convenient as the Secaucus-North Bergen zone.
  12. Greetings, room inventory changes all of the time, and its up to the individual hotel to add or withdraw inventory or change prices. Hotels use PRICELINE and HOTWIRE to sell rooms that would otherwise go empty, so if the Nayland Hotel is selling enough rooms through traditional channels, it might pull back some inventory or raise prices. If they raise prices, this could open the door to let another property in, assuming there is another one in the wings. It is a fluid situation that is not controlled by HOTWIRE, its up to the participating hotels. Good Luck
  13. thanks again for the follow up with the amenities, maybe this will help others avoid this property, and sorry that you got a bad apple here. I would absolutely complain to HOTWIRE in the form of an email, if enough folks complain, this can raise a red flag and cause a property to be re-evaluated and downgraded. If it gets downgraded, you may be entitled to some hot dollars towards a future stay.
  14. I kind of went about this backwards, but started bidding for a 2* at $51, but was rejected, increased to 2.5* and bid $55 by adding Jersey City (thinking that no hotel in JC would accept this) and then got the message "if you increase your bid to $70, you will have a chance that it will be accepted". I closed the browser and accessed PRICELINE using the links on the board and increased my bid to $58. Congratulations, we
  15. Please share the details of your purchase with the board. As per Our Rules and Policies: Then reply to this thread and we'll comment on your situation above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Thanks.
  16. use the Advanced Search feature and you should see previous winning bids for this property. Unfortunately, you can't target a specific property when using PRICELINE. This hotel is a 3.5*, but you can always get upgraded to a 4*. You may want to consider HOTWIRE since you can see if the amenities match those from the Hotwire Hotel List - Pennsylvania. There is always a chance that a hotel can change its amenities displayed on HOTWIRE or another hotel could appear with the same set of amenities.
  17. a $50 per night deposit is not uncommon in Vegas, if you make this in the form of a cash depost at checkin, you will get it back upon checkout. However, if you use a debit card, it is up to your bank to release the funds back into your account. I've not heard of $250 per night deposits on the strip, I would challenge her and ask for the names of these hotels. PS, can you please post your dates of travel and winning bid for your Omaha trip? thanks in advance for making this a better board for getting great travel deals.
  18. This HOTWIRE deal may be gone by then, you should make a cancellable back up reservation and continue bidding each day up to your dates of travel.
  19. From HOTWIRE's website: none of the "big 3" rate this Motel HOTWIRE's description of a 3* property: I was successful in making an argument for a star reduction, I received a 2* motel that I thougt should be a 1*, the folks on HOTWIRE agreed and told me that the hotel had "just" been downgraded (while on hold for 10 minutes??) and they offered to cancel the reservation with no penalty or let me keep the reservation and issue me hot Dollars towards a future stay. I don't know of any 3* hotels with outside room entrances. This place is a MOTEL not a HOTEL, no room service, no restaurant, but there is an ice cream parlor, does this construe "on site dining?"
  20. Welcome! What is your maximum budget per night, excluding taxes and fees? We wouldn't want to suggest a bidding strategy that would exceed your budget. Also, if you are successful with PRICELINE, your hotel room may only have a double bed, will this accomodate your needs?
  21. You will stay in Secaucus and save $$ but the benefit to staying in Manhattan is that you can go back to your room to refresh and spend less time commuting and worrying about bus schedules.
  22. These amenities are a match for the Sheraton Meadowlands. Check with the Sheraton website, but I believe the hotel operates a shuttle to the nearby Secaucus Junction train station, but there may be a fee and the bus fills up fast. This is a decent hotel, but without a car, you are stranded between several highways with nothing within walking distance. I had stayed here several times, the hotel seems to book a lot of high school trips, but otherwise, a nice property as long as you have a car. The median price means nothing, this should be ignored and not used as a basis for your bids. You should look at actual hotel prices using PRICELINE's "shop and compare" product or Expedia. You should not consider anything 2* and below in NYC unless you want to gamble with your valuable vacation time.
