  1. I was trying to extend my stay in orange for a reasonable price but was rejected at $45-52 so I retried bidding in milford at the two star level thinking i would get the fairfield marriot. I had previously bid 40 for 3 star and 35 for 2 and 2.5 stars. I tried again and I bid 40 and 45 and was rejected and then somehow was allowed to bid again so I bid $47 and was then accepted. Well I got the Hampton Inn, and was fine with that till I checked in and found out that They have no swimming pool at all. Last time I stayed here was a different nightmare with the sheets being disgusting etc. I was so tired I didnt even think to look for a pool. The breakfast is included here though so thats a plus. (I was charged 24 for one adult and one child for breakfast at the marriot courtyard in orange. too expensive if u ask me and it didnt include coffee or tea. U
  2. THis hotel offers breakfast but I did not stay long enough to find out if it was any good. I checked in and was given one bed. I told the front desk that I needed two beds and was told I would have to pay extra for two beds. I decided to see the room that was given and see if I wanted to stay. THe bed was small and the room was small too. It was older and the wear was evident in the whole room. It definitely needed some updating. There is an indoor pool which we did not use. After spending about an hour in the room watching tv, we just did not like being there so I packed up and went home. Not sure I would give this hotel another chance or not. THe hotel is located in the back behind a gas station i believe and very close to the highway. I did not stay long enough to comment further
  3. This hotel lobby is setup like many other Marriott Courtyards. What I like about this property is how the rooms are situated around the pool. So far all the rooms that Ive rec'd were on the first floor and has a back door that you can use to walk out to the pool. I love this feature so you are not walking through the lobby dripping wet after using the pool. THere is no hot tub outside though and in the winter the pool is closed due to the cold. There is no indoor pool. You can upgrade to a jacuzzi suite though (extra cost) They also have one bedroom suites here. They have a fire pit outside where you can sit in a circle and stay cozy warm while talking to friends and family late into the night. Internet here is slow but you can use your boingo account and get faster internet or pay $3 a day for faster speeds. This hotel is located right off of 95 exit 41 and behind the outback steakhouse. No meals are included but there is a starbucks restaurant in the lobby (prices are high). They also have a market if you want to purchase last minute items or soda etc. There is a laundromat and the price to wash is $1.75 and $2.00 to dry. Every time I got a room here Ive had problems with dirty sheets. THat is the only problem I have with this hotel. Its a shame because if housekeeping would do a better job and if staff cared about this then this could be a very nice hotel. Unfortunately Ive been seeing this problem all too often. At this hotel though it is extreme. I have pictures of the beds that were first assigned and they have blood stains on both of them and on and through the matress. The sheets have black dots all over them and long hair which shows that they have not been washed. That is just gross. Ive had to have housekeeping come in and wash teh tub because of brown stains and dirt in the tub. There is also large sized gnats living in the drains and flying insects.
  4. I was bidding in milford at $45 and was rejected. Finally today I was given an offer to increase by $7 to $52 but I declined and bid for one night at $46 and was again denied. I then went to the Orange town and bid $42 and was immediately accepted for one night. Priceline said I saved over 62 percent. THe hotels site said their price was $179 but after 730pm I noticed the price went down on priceline to $89 while the hotel was still at $179. I like that the pool is in the middle of the property but the drawback is the amount of people that are here using the pool. There is no jacuzzi tub outside and the water is ice cold. The internet service is very fast though which is a plus. I pretty much knew I would get this property since it is the only 3 star in the area so no surprises.
  5. Why not call hotwire and explain to them you made a mistake in your reservation. If it is the first time youve had a problem, they may be willing to help you. If your willing to stay in another area, this would work out or if your willing to make a reservation for another date this would work out. Saying you just don't like the hotel you got won't do it because that is the risk you take with opaque sites. The fact that the hotel does not have a casino would have been apparent at time of booking because the hotels that do have casinos indicate that as an amenity. I wouldn't recommend selling the room or giving it away unless it was to a friend or relative you trusted as any problems will come back to you.
  6. been doing this for years and it never backfired for me. Its kinda scary sometimes especially when choosing zones you absolutely do not want to stay in, but as long as u check prior to bidding and dont make a mistake, you should be fine.
  7. I found this while looking for a hotel in the milford area. Amenities listed are smoke free rooms complimentary breakfast fitness room high speed internet It is recommended by 100 percent of hotwire users
  8. I continued to bid up to $301 and did not get even a nibble. The median price was $330 and even went down to $200 when I bid $275 but was still not accepted. Maybe they have little inventory at this time for five star hotels. I am tempted to bid the $330 to see if they will let me pay full price for the hotel by bidding or make me go higher.seems a bit crazy to me. They should have accepted my $301 offer.
  9. I started at 130 and went up to $200 for the nights of 8/20-8/28 2011 and had no luck with the five star level I will do some more bidding as time permits. Seems kinda high when the advertised price is $330 and they won't take a bid at $200 per night. Maybe this is high season? side note Hotwire has 4 star hotels starting at $110 - $149 and even has condos for $119 - $125 maybe this will be a better way to go unless you definitely want the five star resort.
  10. My experience has varied. Usually I arrive early and most of the time am allowed to check in. Ive checked in at 1230 - 1 pm at the Residence Inn with no problems. ALso have checked in as early as 830 one time at the Fairfield Marriott. There have been the times too when I ask to check in and am nicely told I need to come back when a room is available(Hampton Inn), the last time I was to come back at 100 pm so, not so bad. I really don't like it though if I ask and they have to go clean a room for me because that is when they do not clean the room so good. Since Id prefer a clean room over an early check in, Id just rather wait and come back. really, it just varies.
  11. Personally I find it easier to book on priceline when booking for a minor or even anyone else especially because many hotels do not even ask for id or a cc. The ones that do require an id are fine if you just bring in the Priceline acceptance letter instead. They just want to make sure they are giving the room to the right person and that person does not trash the room. However some higher star level hotels that have restaurants and room service may require a cc. for incidentals. Though if you insist that you will not have any they shouldn't make a big fuss. Ive bid and gave hotel rooms for my daughter from CT to Florida over a 5 week period and she never once had to show id or a cc. Most of the hotels were 2 and 2.5 star level which can make a difference. Just to be sure you can call the hotel in advance to ask what the policy is regarding priceline or 3rd party stays. Even if cc was required they just want to make sure you are not going to trash the room so may need a small deposit. You can cover this on your cc or use even use a debit card. Most likely there will not be a problem as long as the person is not the type to cause any, ie parties and the like. Anyone over 18 should not have a problem, though they may not be able to get beer or wine just like any other bar. Ive been in the Free reception dinners where they serve beer and wine and have been carded so as long as they are not drinking I don't think staying in a hotel that serves beer or wine will cause any issues.
  12. If the area you are looking at is small, you could just look up all hotels in your star level on tripadvisor and see if there are ones you do not like or if you could live with any or all of them in the area. Other than that, not sure what else you could do but its a start. One comment about getting a hotel on priceline that has not been listed on "the other side" . Its not my general experience either but it HAS happened to me. THankfully it was for a nice property though so nothing bad happened. Just confirming what was already told to you. Example: Hilton in Ocala Fl is not listed but given to priceline bidders of 3 star hotels.
  13. Having just won this property yesterday at $55, I first tried $41 then$53 which were both rejected. I then bid $55 and was again given this hotel. Im pretty sure its the only 3 star hotel in the area. You have 2 free rebid zones. with taxes and fees $68 This property has full kitchen suites pool bathtub in bathroom free breakfast free internet home movie theatre dvd player in room fitness center nearby are many stores including target, kohls and wachovia bank Its in a nice neighborhood and includes free parking too.
  14. The hotel is similar to a Residence Inn with a few exceptions, First I was pretty happy when I opened the door and saw two queen sized beds since I'm traveling with children. This room also has a pullout couch which allows you to sleep 3 people in their own beds .or three couples (total of six people). There is a small kitchen wich has a stovetop (no oven), dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator (large, but smaller than a regular sized one), toaster and dishes. Breakfast is included and on Tuesday, Weds, and thursday they have an evening reception. The bathroom has a tub which I do not always see in studios. Another good thing is that this hotel has free, self service, laundromat. THere is a dvd player in the room with a flat screen tv. The front desk clerk said that they used to have dvd movies to offer but people stole all of them so they now just tell you to go rent them at redbox for $1. The pool is nicely heated and goes from 3 to 6 feet. They also include breakfast with a large selection. My 8 yr old knew I was writing a review of the hotel and told me not to write anything negative since she likes this room and the hotel. I told her I wouldn't but while I like this hotel also I must say the one problem I encountered. Its my pet peeve to have cleen sheets at a hotel and by the amount of unclean ones I run across I think some hotels don't even consider it a requirement. THe only thing I don't like about my room is that one of the beds had a comforter that was not clean. THey have brown comforters on the beds so I can see how easy it could be for a lazy maid to think they could get away with not changing the comforter or washing it. They only offer weekly cleaning here which also can contribute to less than adequate service. I personally do not want to sleep on a comforter that someone else used and then was not washed. It really upsets my whole stay when the sheets are dirty and full of other peoples hair. What is WOrse, is, when I called front desk to complain, they were not surprised and were very unapologetic and offered no solution. Plus I was told I could not get a clean comforter since they only offer two comforters per room. when I pointed out that one of the two was dirty but he sound annoyed that I would even care. I was told that the room should have a blanket in the closet but mine did not. Finally I asked for cleen sheets and was told if I wanted them I had to come down and get them myself, which is not a problem. I think it is so easy to make sure the bedding in the room is clean before you let someone rent the room but Obviously this is just my thinking and is not shared by many hotels including this one. It is too bad too because otherwise I would give this hotel a perfect rating.
  15. I looked in roomsaver magazine and found this hotel listed for $79 and was hoping to get it by bidding on PRICELINE. THe roomsaver coupon was not good for saturday nights which is the night I needed it for. I started at $35 for two nights and added the other towns one by one because none of the other towns had 3 star hotels or better. I then bid $40, $44,and $49. all rejected I changed to two nights and bid $50, added another town and placed my final bid for $55 which was accepted. Priceline acceptance said I saved 50%. THe online rate was $109 for tonight. As This hotel is not listed yet, I am pleased to add it to the list. I was super happy to get this hotel since the roomsaver ad said it was a new hotel and that all the rooms were suites. I wrote a hotel review for this hotel which includes my experience here. Overall pretty good amenities.
  16. A fairly new hotel (3 yrs old) in Silver Springs which is just a few miles away from Ocala . This hotel is a bright spot in and around a kind of broken down looking old area that otherwise I would not want to be. While I felt safe on the property and even with my car in their parking lot, I know I would not have had that same feeling just right or left of the property. The back of the hotel is across the street from Silver Springs Park which has environmental things along with water slides etc. The hotel had a smell to it that I was told came from cleaning the carpets. This hotel has everything you would expect in a Holiday inn express. It offers breakfast, included and their kitchen/eating area is large and spacious. The food is replenished often and variety is offered. hot pancakes, hard boiled eggs, hash brown, scrambled eggs, cinnamon buns. etc. The swimming pool is supposed to be heated but depending on who you talk to you will get two different opinions on whether or not it really is. I thought it was but , I am from the cold CT, Floridians have said absolutely not that this pool is Not heated and is very cold. The rooms have both refrigerator and microwave. The room I had had two queen beds and were kept very very clean. THe sheets and pillows were clean and changed nightly while i was there. It was refreshing to stay in a hotel where the housekeepers actually have clean sheets to put on the beds and do a good job in your room both prior to your stay and during your stay. The housekeeper was very pleasant. Front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful too. after my stay I was asked to call the hotel direct and they will give me a discount instead of using priceline. I think I will just to see what rate will be given me but we will see if they will give me a lower price than priceline or not. The hotel was not full at all when I was bidding but it seemed kinda hard to get them to accept your offer. SO far the only one in SilverSprings that accepted 2.5 star bids.
  17. 3* This hotel is given 3 stars but has all the features of a 3.5 - 4 star Hotel This hotel is right off 75 in the same driveway as Lowes but a seperate area. It is located near many restaurants and other hotels. It houses its own horses and as of this date charges $40/half hour to ride. The room I was given had two queen beds, desk, chair, table and flat screen tv. It only has a very tiny refrigerator and no microwave. The food here is very good. A cheeseburger cost $9 and with room service comes to $11. The lobby is pretty large and there is a restauraunt there. The pool is large going from 3 to 6 feet. There is a very nice very warm to hot, jacuzzi located with the pool that I enjoyed. On the eve that I checked in, a Sunday the lobby was totally filled with people (at least 30) but by the next day they were all gone Staff have been really nice. The sheets are extremely clean. housekeeping only changes sheets upon request and did not clean my bathroom on the third night. Overall a good stay.
  18. Bid started at $35, $40, $41, $44 and then $45 was finally accepted 1 room $45.00 X 4 nights Subtotal: $180.00 Taxes & Fees: $27.52 Total Charges*: $207.52 I was bidding at the 2.5 star level because I was hoping to get the Marriott Fairfield but I was upgraded. Oh, well, I hear the beds here are nice, will let ya know.
  19. i bid $46, $47, $50, $55, $61, $63, $65 finally accepted. The going rate is $77 - $80. i just found out that a better deal would have been to pay full price then get $75 back after your weekend hotel stay at holiday inn express.... now they tell me!. Total for two nights $150 kinda bummed cuz last time i got it for $48. i wanted to stay here though cuz its a new hotel and that would kinda guarantee that the beds and sheets would be in better shape, which they were. Beds are very clean but room has an odor of mens cologne that front desk attributes to having the carpets recently shampooed but not thoroughly air dried. It has a heated outdoor pool, refrigerator and microwave in room, and a very large tub, which i am enjoying!! I got two beds w/o having to ask for it and again, no request for id or cc. THe parking is free and safe and the internet is free too, breakfast included I think i saw this on hotwire for $75 listed as a three star property.
  20. I was looking for a hotel in Roanoke and another close town near the nc/sc border. I was on the road for 12 hours (about 8 hours drive time) and the kids were overtired and it started to pour out. I had tried both early in the morning and then again when I was ready to stop. Someone gave the advice to just p/up one of those books and choose one of those hotels instead of being tied down to a priceline booking. THis is great advice. There were no priceline hotels in the area I was looking for so priceline choose a nearby town I could bid on. Not looking closely at the map I thought it was just the next town down from 95 which would be logical so I bid. After being rejected for $50 for the 2.5 star hotel I rebid $55 for the 2 star hotel and was accepted at the 2.5 star hotel level at the Country INN and suites THIRTY MINUTES AWAY from i-95. Not thirty minutes away in my direction of travel either. I had to go back 3 exits and then go 30 minutes of driving toward the middle of South Carolina (away from myrtle beach). There has been no wins reported in this town and I can see why since if your traveling and your eyes are open you wouldn't purposely choose this town! Now that I am here though, there are many hotels in the area and wonder why no wins are reported since obviously there are priceline wins. Oh well. check out time is 11 am so i am glad i bid on two nights. ( i knew how tired we were and sleeping in was my goal!) free breakfast and internet and safe free parking. Its located behind an ihop and next to candlewood suites. across from holiday inn express hotel and many restaurants. applebees in front and to the left of hotel. clean room, clean beds, 2 queen beds included. nice friendly front desk staff. I had an occasion to meet the manager. I asked the maid to vacuum my room today forgetting how my daughter left the bathroom walls last night after her bath. She called in two workers to "give me towels" but never did get them. They were perplexed as to her asking them for help. Finally I got a call from the manager. I was scared, thought i did something wrong. Well management wouldnt even tell me either. He said " I need to see your room. First i said no problem then before I opened the door, I asked again repeatedly WHY??? he wouldnt say. I then, against my better judgement opened the door and showed him the room. He then went to the bathroom and asked me how I planned on covering the damages to the bathroom. I said WHAT!!! I then looked at the wall and LAUGHED SO HARD inside. I gave my kids water makers that you use in a bathtub, like water fingerpaint. It comes off with water and does not harm to walls but looks like the real thing. It provides great fun for kids with no headaches to moms. Well I reached down and took a wash cloth wet it with water and wiped it off. The mean look on his face changed and i think I saw some red in his face. He then stumbled on his words appologizing and saying I am intelligent (as if to say his staff isnt?) and that priceline customers are known to do damage to his rooms and then there is no way for him to recoup the charges. Why they don't just take a credit card imprint when u check in is beyond me. Wouldnt that be a way to cover themselves or are the laws different here? He then left the room and the Maid tried to stay clear of me. i was a bit peeved since all she needed to do was ask me what was on the walls but she never did. you can see the drawing was only on the bathtub walls and shower wall so she should have asked. clearly I would never purposely cause damage to his property but he never met me before and i understand that. a few ruin it for many. aside from all that it is a nice comfy clean bed though the rug is tired with cigarette burns and dirt. In the fitness room it smelled and you can see the mold on the wall. they were cleaning this yesterday i was told but when i walked in it was an empty room with three sheets of wallpaper full of mold on the floor and the room smelled aweful. the indoor pool was nice though small.
  21. I bid up to $61 for a 2.5 star property in this area and was rejected both for this date and yesterdays date I accepted hotwire 2* $54 candlewood suite property in Bel air for yesterdays stay but wanted to sleep in a bit more so I bid on 2 * priceline hoping to get the candlewood for less. NO GO!! I got the Extended stay which is basicly across the street, up the road about 1 minute car ride. Since I needed a fridge and stove I was satisfied until I went inside and saw the room I was given. My bids of up to $35 and $39 was rejected, then the $40 was accepted. This room and property is a glorified truck stop with a few budget travelers and some workers stuck here. Many smokers stay at this property. I was offered a room with a queen size bed which I said was unacceptable since the three of us would not be able to fit on one bed. I was told I could upgrade for $20 or Next time to call priceline ahead of time, before my arrival and have priceline put in that the reservation is for a double room, otherwise I need to pay the $20 to get it. They do not have any rollaway beds. He saw that I was desperate,. I said I did not have the $20 to pay for an upgrade and only intended to stay a short while. He said nothing he could do. We stood there in total silence for a good 4 minutes (which is a very long silence by the way) waiting to see what I was going to do. I then raised my head and said. Well do you have any King sized beds? He immediately said yes he did, but then it dawned on him that there is still the extra fee for that room. He decided not to voice that problem and after another long silence gave me the keys to the room with a king size bed. Yes it has a kitchen with utensils but otherwise is just a cheap motel room. You know the ones that people frequent and use by the hour. Well that is the feel I had about the room. It was very dirty. There were cigarette burns in the mattress and dust around the cills and corners just gross, my one yr old was not allowed to crawl on that floor. The overstuffed chair was a magnet for dust and hairs and looked like it needed a good beating and cleaning. I forbid both kids from sitting on it. THe bed sheets had long black hairs all over it and on the floor. I changed the sheets and covered the whole bed with clean sheets. I went to walmart and bought an airbed for $10 AND A sleeping bag for $8 clearance so there would not be any more issues with whether or not we got two beds or not. The bed was so so hard. I got the worst sleep and was awoken many times with pains in my back. I finally just gave up and packed my things and left early in the morning. I promised myself not to make that mistake again. The fee for wireless is $5 but if you are a boingo customer you can figure out a way to get online with your account and not have to pay the fee.
  22. Correct, she did not charge me for the cot, not sure if that is the norm or if she did this as a favor for me since hotwire was not answering their phones and she could not get the approval. Had I declined the cot, she said she would have recalled hotwire until she got an answer. The cot was well built with a good sized twin mattress so I accepted. Having stayed here I can say it was a treat!!! The bed was just awesome and very very CLEAN! This hotel is only 2 yrs old and is in very good condition. I was shocked and amazed to find out that Candelwood suite front desk person act as the bus boy, bellman, concierage, and maid as well as front desk duties. She took her duites without complaint and said, this is the Candle suite way. Very nice personnel, friendly and helpful. THey had a list of movies you can rent for free to be used with the disc player in your room! nice touch. also the Laundry is FREE No charge to wash and dry your clothes. (50 cents for soap though). Another difference being here down south is that no one is asking for my ID and credit card imprint. Not one hotel from Maryland down to SOuthCarolina has asked. (check out my priceline south carolina 7/6 -7/7/2011 thread on another comment regarding this since an incident occured during that stay that shows why this is not a good idea for the hotel but i am still perplexed on their reasoning for doing so. I like it since i dont always have my id handy.
  23. I bid up to $61 for 2.5 stars but was not even given a counter offer I bid up to $45 for 2 stars and was given an offer to bid $50 to accept but then tried hotwire I accepted 2.5 stars from Hotwire with the amenities of Laundry and Fitness this was candelwood suites Nice Hotel, brand new, no complaints about the bed or sheets I asked for 2 beds though and she said she had to call hotwire because it would cost more so she needed to clear this. She was put on hold so after 10 min or so asked if I would accept a cot. I took a look at it and accepted. The room includes a queen bed and a mini full kitchen (no stove but countertop) No free breakfast or pool but they have one next door!!! Checking back on hotwire site, the increased cost is $5 which is applied if you put in 3 or more people. So the cost would have been $59 plus tax.
  24. Well, I bid $40, first try for 2 star today and got this total $50.18 Yesterday I bid $35 and was given an offer to increase to $50 i declined and tried to bid again but bids up to $45 were denied. I was thinking this was the Candelwood, but obviously its not. Thats the gamble!! Its not far from the Candlewood anyway.
  25. after my purchase i took another look and the price for the other hotel immediately went down to $65 for the next 12 hours or so then dissapeared. SO the price does go down sometimes if you wait a bit but you risk that the hotel pick will no longer be there. I do like staying here. It is a clean hotel with all the amenities you'd expect at a homewood suite. THe staff has been very good and quick to come to the room and fix any problems. Indoor pool. Located next to Marriot Courtyard. Interesting note, the Marriott Courtyard was absolutely void of activity and this hotel was full to almost capacity.
