  1. Very nice historic hotel with lots of charm, excellent service, well-decorated beautiful hallways and lobby. Bathroom a little inferior and neighborhood is convenient, with a metro right outside and a great diner across the street, but quite a few homeless in the area might put some people off. The 3.5 star is about right--no safe, no coffee service in the room, but otherwise no complaints. Starbucks is in the lobby and the hotel restaurant is also quite good.
  2. I was hoping to get the 3* Marriott Courtyard, which is much nicer, but this one (formerly a Hilton) is okay too and has a great location a block from the Metro.
  3. In looking at Hotwire 4* hotels in Washington, DC, one lists handicap-accessible and roll-in shower as amenities. Would this likely mean that they are definitely offering a handicap-accessible room, or that it is a possibility? I'm looking to AVOID a roll-in shower! Thanks.
  4. I can't find a Priceline list of hotels for Washington, DC--not under "District" and not under "Washington." I did find it for Hotwire, however. What am I missing?
  5. First bid was for 5* at $80, unsuccessful, followed with 4* and $65 got this hotel. Calling it "East" is a little misleading on Priceline's part, but it still works!
  6. I didn't make that trip. THANKS so much for your help!!!!
  7. Can you please help to identify the following: 2.5-star Hotel in Central Park This Hotel features the following amenities: Laundry Facilities (self-service) <amenity names only please... not descriptions> High-Speed Internet Access Guestrooms are equipped with high-speed Internet access; an extra charge may apply. The only 2.5* I currently find on your list is the Marrakech, but with different amenities. Thanks for any help.
  8. I agree with the previous poster that you'll be in fine shape if you learn how to use the buses and do not depend on the inconvenient tube. And the hotel is okay, but who knows how it continues to be rated 4 stars, or even 3.5. It should in no way ever be considered anything more than an ordinary 3 star place. Clean yes, but very shabby hallways and fairly shabby rooms as well. Hilton needs to pay some attention to this place. For the money you can usually do better, and that's why I avoid Kensington when bidding these days, even though there are some nice hotels in that area.
  9. Any clue what could be 5* in that area with the following amenities? fitness, pool, restaurant, laundry, internet, spa
  10. IMHO, if you bid 2.5 or 3 stars on priceline for fairly low prices, good chance you will get a Holiday Inn Express and good chance breakfast will be included.
  11. I never bid the Kensington zone just to be sure I don't get stuck in this hotel. I've stayed there about five times, using priceline, hotwire, and delta miles, and while sometimes it's okay, the hotel is always shabby. Rooms can be extremely small, the hallways are tortured, and when I showed up looking for a room for two, which I had reserved, they wanted to charge me extra. We finally worked it out, but it wasn't easy, even though I had my confirmation showing the room was for two. The nearby tube station only has trains once every 20 or 30 minutes, so is generally inconvenient. The Kensington High Street station is a 30 minute walk. Very few restaurants and shops nearby, so not a neighborhood for hanging out in. Best to avoid.
  12. Thanks for the info! I'm not crazy about the Hilton Olympia but if that's the worst I will do, then not too bad...
  13. Ah, ok, it lists fitness center, business center, restaurant(s), high-speed internet access
  14. The dates are Jan 21-24 (two rooms, one single and one double) and Hotwire lists the amenities for 3.5* as * A well-known, on-site restaurant * Large, quality rooms * Room service * Health and fitness center * Business administrative center
  15. Hotwire lists four hotels as 3* and up in Kensington--I am sure two of them are the Hilton Olympia and Copthorne Tara. Any idea what the others might be? They currently have a 3.5* for $76 for my dates and that would be fine if it's a decent location in Kensington.
  16. In Kensington you are also likely to get the Hilton Olympia, which is a little inconvenient, as the Olympia tube station only runs trains three times per hour. It's a bit of a hike to the Kensington High Street station (20-30 mins). Also the Hilton Olympia has excellent service and a nice lobby, is very clean, but the rooms are a little shabby (as with the Copthorne). Not 4-star, in my opinion.
  17. HOTWIRE doesn't serve Geneva, or anywhere in Switzerland. For a year (maybe more) they have been saying "will serve the country soon." Obviously not true.
