  1. You probably won't find a 4* for less than $59 unless the US dollar gains significantly against the CAD $ befor your dates so if you think $59 or $60 is a good deal then you should go ahead and start bidding now, you can rebid every 72 hours if required but I would wait about 10 days between bids to avoid frustration. If you are willing to pay a bit more then you could use some of the many free rebids for 4* in DT T.O. and work your way up to your max. Hotwire currently has a rate of $94 for the Hilton(most likely based on package comparison) and $85 for the King Edward(definitely since it is the only resort rated hotel in DT T.O.)
  2. Called priceline on Thursday 22nd, they called back today, to confirm that they will be issuing a refund for my JW Marriot march reservations. Now I need to find alternative accomodations
  3. From Checking the Hotwire packages for your dates, it looks like the hotel might be the: Presidente Inter-Continental Cancun
  4. Dates dec 16to 18th restauarant ,fitness icons 4* also 3.5 * no icons also 3* restaurant, pool , fitness, laundry thanks
  5. I was checking rates in DT Toronto for Dec 2 and found 4* for 2 people $76 when searching for 4 people the 4* price jumped to $108. This was not surprising, but it got me thinking. Do you think that hotels will start charging extra for 2 Beds when requested through a Priceline bid or is Hotwire just cashing in on something that can usually be had for free with a simple phone call?
  6. yes prices can fluctuate depending on circumstances at the hotel
  7. For future reference Priceline almost always accepts less than their counter offer. I see that there were not any free rebid zones, so you would have needed to wait 72hrs to try and undercut the counter offer
  8. I don't think there is anyway to target a particular hotel, unless you know that it is the only hotel available at your requested Star level in a particular zone. For example if you bid 5* Las vegas strip zone you are 99% sure that you will get the Venetian if your bid is accepted. If you use Hotwire, you can sometimes figure out the Hotel, by matching its icons against Hotels that show up in a vacation search for your same location.(since the Hotel names are revealed in Vacation searches before you purchase as opposed to after)
  9. Smoking requests go through the hotel after booking 5 people for 2 rooms should be fine. If you need a rollaway you must request that through the hotel as well
  10. are you trying for today? What bids have you made?
  11. Just booked this today $35 countered at $44 free rebid at $38 and accepted
  12. This is a great topic. I am a bit surprised at all of the Hotwire support, but you make great points. I find that I use Priceline more because it is much less expensive. I did use hotwire a while back and took advantage of double the difference for a $1000 rebate at the Venetian in Vegas. Recently I got the JW MArriott in Cancun for $105 uS and the cheapest HW propertiy was about $170. And just Today I got the Renaissance Toronto Airport 3* for $38 Hotwire's best comparable property was about $60. These savings more than make up for the slightly higer fees. I usually try to go for 4* and up to avoid the quality issues, but I have stayed at several 3* properties that are better than some 4*. Hyatt Charlotte and Crowne Plaza Cleveland, while the Hilton and Shweraton in downtown Toronto are no better than 3*. I like HW for the 3.5* DT toronto usually the Sheraton. I still use HW to check rates and to decipher the possibilities
  13. Is this the Sheraton? or the Intercontinental. You first say the Sheraton and then you list the details for the Intercontinental Maybe you were hoping for the Sheraton?(lol)
  14. It might be a bit early to bid. Don't get frustrated be patient. Last year I just wanted to complete my travel plans, so I bid up to $70(accepted) for a 3 * at Tampa Airport. This was in December for a March stay. I know that I overbid by about $20 as I saw $50 bids accepted in the new year. Patience usually pays off.
  15. I modified the reservation on the rewards site by adding my rewards number. Their system accepted it even though it says that no changes are allowed. I was also able to put in my room requests.
  16. An interesting follow up: As a Marriott rewards member, I went online to check this reservation. By some quirk I guess, they listed the pricepaid for the 7 night stay as $815.36 including the 12% tax. So before tax the price was $728($104 per night) Therefore $104 is what priceline paid for the room. I had my $104 bid rejected before $105 was accepted. Priceline made exactly 23.50 on my bid. It seems that their fee was $16.50 and my overbid was $7. Curious why $104 was not accepted though
  17. 2.5* courtyard By marriott just south of flint. I have stayed here before on $50 priceline bids
  18. Did you try to match up the packages? Pick any departure airport for the same days as your stay. Check the amenities of the 4* hotels that come up in the packages(hotel names are given). If you find an exact match to your $155 hotel amenities, then you might have a good idea as to what hotel it is. But there could be 2 hotels with the same amenities, so it is not a guarantee, just a good guess.
  19. Needed a room after our return flight from Cancun. Started at $33 and accepted at $37 rebid
  20. The deal that I got previously seemed so good that my brother wanted to go too. First bid of $105 was accepted.
  21. My experience when bidding MCO car rental, is that the prices usually drop closer to your travel dates. I book the lowest cancellable rate that I can find and then I start trying to beat the price bidding priceline. I have always been able to beat it.
  22. This is an outstanding deal since the lowest price I could find was about $385 per night. I really only needed a place to stay for Fri Mar 10th since I had a Timeshare on hold for Mar 11-18th at the Fiesta Americana Vacation Club. I had started to bid for a 5*( up to $110 all rejected) then I started a new bid for 4* knowing that I might be "upgraded" to Resort. I was never expecting to get the JW since the conventional prices were so high. I was actually hoping for the Fiesta Americana so that I would not have to take a taxi to the Timeshare. Once I got accepted for the one night, it got me thinking about the the other 7. So I took a chance and made a second bid for the week of the 11th - 18th and hit the JW again. I think that this is the best priceline deal that I have ever made. Considering that this week is spring break for all of Ontario, I was quite pleased. I also got a great deal on airfare out of Detroit for $400 Canadian compared to $1000 out of Toronto
