  1. Booked this via www.savingsbarn.com I've been bidding San Francisco 4* in the low $70's this past week. Tried USW, USE. Even did a dummy free bid by using other neighborhoods. No luck. Since it doesn't matter where I stay, I decided to bid 3* at San Francisco airport. Bid accepted at $35. Wonder if the airport could have been had any lower? Not that I'm complaining. I know my way around this city; and don't mind the trip on BART. Doubletree Hotel August 7. One night 3* $35 plus fees/taxes.
  2. I started bidding 3*. Re-bid 3* and changed zones. Last bid was 2*. Next time I'll keep track of re-bid zones / stars / and prices. :)
  3. My brother-in-law stayed at the Essex House on Central Park South aka 59th street. He bid $162. :) When reminded about these board, he told me that Manhattan Priceline rates have shot through the roof. Gone are the days of $90 Hiltons. FYI, hotels are fuller than ever before in NYC.
  4. Started bidding at $55 for Oct 8, Saturday night. This weekend is homecoming at SUNY Albany. 3* was reject at $55 for downtown. Used my free re-bids at $2 per re-bid to finally get the Best Western on Wolf Road for $62. Cont breakfast is included. :) I did not/will not include the Sch'y area in any bidding. Last week I stayed at the Marriott on Wolf Road for $50. I've read reports that hotels have higher pricing for homecoming weekend. I suggest anyone headed to any homecoming start bidding now; before everyone else does.
  5. It's a bit of a train ride from White Plains to Mt Kisco. Maybe 20-25 minutes. Same time if you're in a car. Hopefully that won't be a problem for you if you're headed to White Plains from Mt. Kisco. If you're headed to Armonk from Mt. Kisco, the only way to get there is by bus; unless of course you have a car.
  6. Just got back. Received a renovated room on the 3rd floor. FYI, this property has new mattress' that are way too soft. We didn't care for it. YMMV. My wife suggested that I don't bid on a 3* next time we're in Albany. :)
  7. FYI, This trip (2 actual stays, Thursday and Saturday) I was given a room in the same building as where you check in. These rooms are nicer (in a 2 star type of way) than one of the remote buildings that I stayed at in December. Bathrooms are 1* in both locations. Oh well. FYI to everyone, book with www.savingsbarn.com
  8. This hotel is in the ALBANY AIRPORT zone. dh
  9. No. It's not in the airport zone; but this hotel is pretty close. Say 5 - 10 minutes away. dh
  10. Bid 2 1/2 * for Albany NY (SUNY) area - $49 Rejected. July 7. Re-bid 2 1/2 * to include all Albany zones except Sch'dy. Upgraded to 3* Albany Marriott at $50. My wife will be pleased. :)
  11. I bid $28 for 1 night on June 9. Thursday. I'll ask for a Tower room when I check-in; as I hear this is a better class of room. I stayed here in December. You get what you pay for! :)
  12. When I showed my gold card, the clerk gave me a renovated room on the 9th floor. I also received club access. They provide a nice cont bkft. This was May 2005.
  13. Just wanted to say that I booked this through savingsbarn.com :)
  14. I was hoping to get the Emb Suites (and breakfast) for $41. Instead: Bid $41. 3* LAX May 7, Saturday. No surprise as 3* seems to come up for this price on a regular basis. :)
  15. It's a 10 minute walk to the Strip. Bus service is available on the strip. I stayed here in December 2004. My room overlooked the strip (from a distance). I thought my room was nice sized for a standard room. Some would say spacious. I advise you to check their website for 'specials'. My room cost $52 per night; and they included 2 buffet dinners. dhammer
  16. I just booked a car at Fort Lauderdale airport (FLL). I originally booked with Avis for 5 days @21.75 a day. Avis offered the lowest rates. Then, I decided to review Priceline bids. First bid $14 mid-size rejected. Second bid $15 accepted for a standard vehicle. 5 days @$15 = $75 taxes/fees $46.50 Total $121.50 vs $155 with Avis. The fees are a killer in Florida. Booked thru savingsbarn.com
  17. You are correct. Century Blvd. Last week, I bid 2 1/2* for Redondo Beach and failed at $35. This time I bid 3* and included both RB and LAX. I knew that if this failed, Priceline lets you bid down a *; which is what I did. I upped my bid by $1.00 :) . My bid was accepted. To tell you the truth, I was expecting the Residence Inn. I stayed there once (at regular price) and enjoyed it.
  18. Started at 3* and $35 for the LAX and Redondo Beach area. I figured if that wasn't accepted, I could re-bid 2/12* for the same area. I did just that; with a re-bid at $36. Bingo. I'm staying at the Courtyard by Marriott. Sunday March 13. One night $36.00 $12.29 taxes/fees Total $48.29
  19. First try. 3* Hyatt West Hollywood Dec 8. One night. $56.00 Bid $15.43 tax etc $71.43 Total
  20. Mazel Tov and goodluck with your new bundle of joy! :) Dan
  21. Hotwire offered 7 passenger vans at $40.95 at LAX. 12/8 - 12/11 Wed-Sat. I figured P/L would be less. First bid $34. Accepted. (Probably could have been less) Taxes/fees $15.48 Total $117 FYI, Avis/Hertz and National priced out at $191-$227. :)
  22. If I recall correctly, it's about 1 hour to Hoover Dam (southeast). If I recall correctly, it's 45 minutes or so to Red Rocks (west), depending on what part of the city you're coming from. Hoover Dam ... do the tour. You won't regret it. And just for the record, even though I love Mrs. See's candies, don't bother going on the free tour. Red Rocks...you can drive the loop road, or get out and walk around. This place is beautiful. I might add that there is a September 11th memorial; around back of the visitor center. As a New Yorker, I was moved.
  23. I actually started bidding last week. I started 3* for $35. I know, the nerve, but I had time and thought I might get lucky. :) Then I got realistic with 2 1/2 * at $30. Even with a re-bid - No luck. I bid today and got a hotel. I've passed this hotel a hundred times before. It's probably a solid 5 minute ride from LAX; as opposed to the Sheraton 4 Points, or Westin. Of course I'll post a report. :)
  24. Just bid on a 2* at LAX airport. Got the FURAMA Hotel December 3-5 Friday-Sunday 2 nights $35 per night x 2 = $70.00 Taxes etc $17.68
  25. I'm glad to see this info posted publically on betterbidding.com :) I wonder if it will be posted on any other websites? :) I actually learned something that I didn't know.
