  1. We stayed at this hotel on June 28&29th/09 Check In was quick and easy.Large parking lot in front of the hotel is shared by the hotel, a convention centre next door and a Staybridge Suites. Room was clean and well appointed. 4 pillows plus a spare in two (marked) frimness...firm and soft. Other pillows ie down available on request. The internet site states that regular guest rooms have microwave and frig...but this is not the case. Only a few suites have these amenities. There is a small locked bar frig though. Rooms seem very soundproof. There was a family two rooms down with small children but we never heard them. Staff is very cordial....actually one housekeeping staff went well beyond expectations. He was vacuuming around the elevators on the 6th floor. As I approached, he turned the vacuum off. I told him he was welcome to continue with his work, but he stated it was too noisy. He didn't turn that vacuum on until I was on the elevator with the doors closed! That certainly shows consideration for the guests. Used the pool and fitness room. All was clean, however I found the hot tub was better described as a "warm tub" However it was still relaxing... On check out the staff seemed genuinely interested in our suggestions.
  2. You mention that you would be spending $100.00 in taxi fares. I lived in the Quebec city area for a year and I can attst that Quebec a very good bus system. It probaly would not be necessary to take taxis at all...you can usually get to the Old city by bus quite easily. This is just another option you might consider if your bidding process doesn't go well.
  3. First bid of $48 was rejected. Priceline countered offered if I increased my bid by $14.00. I did not do so. Waited 24 hours. Re-bid of $53 was accepted. Used SavingsBarn.com. Congratulations, you got your price of $53 for a 3-star hotel room. Holiday Inn Select Oakville at Bronte Oakville/Burlington Ontario Zone 2525 Wyecroft Road Oakville, On L6L 6P8 905-857-1000 Check-In Date: Sat June 27, 2009 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Mon, Jun 29, 2009 Check-Out Time: 12:00 PM Your Offer Price: $53.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $106.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $22.39 Total Charges: $128.39 (all in US $) We are visiting Burlington and I had suspected I might receive Holiday Inn Burlington....however this hotel is just fine and will just expand our visit slightly! It also provides a new listing for your Priceline list for 3* Toronto Oakville/Burlington. Maybe I'm pushing it, but I called the hotel the next day and asked that our Priority Club number be attached to this reservation. They took the Club #. If this two night stay qualifies us for the 2 night stay one night free...it would be an exceptional deal, though I won't be surprised if they reject that possibility!! Thanks again for this awesome site!
  4. Since this is the Canada forum, I'm pretty sure the references are to London, ONTARIO.
  5. Thanks so much! I continued to look around after I posted and did find where people counterbid lower than the suggested amount....but not on their initial bid...which I was trying unsuccessfully to do. I'm not sure I can change any zones since all surrounding zones appear to have 3 star accomodations. However I started early enough to allow several 24 hour periods to pass and I'll rebid that way. Thanks for your help...this is a great site where peopl eare willing to help each other win great deals!
  6. I just made a bid through BetterBidding link to PRICELINE for Burlington, Canada. I like to start lower than I know they will accept and work up. I bid $48 Priceline countered stating I should increase my bid by $14.00 I only increased it slightly and it reminded me of the need for $14.00. At that point, I chose not to accept their counter bid. I am sure I have read on this forum that people can sometimes counter bid by about 1/2 of the suggested bid and get the room Is that the case or must you rebid the entire amount that they counter offer. If this question is answered elsewhere on the site, please simply direct me to the answer. (I can't seem to find it anywhere) Thanks so much!
  7. My husband stayed here last night and said it was really nice. His only complaint was that there wasn't a hot tub, although the pool is salt water. His room (although not a Priceline bid) included a hot breakfast so you might be lucky and get that too!
  8. Can you only extend at the time of the original bid? and does Priceline always give you this option?
  9. Thanks SO much. I didn't realize I'd need to put toronto beofre the burlington int he searches...should have thought of that :) I'll do more research and probably get back to you if our very tentative plans take shape!
  10. Has anyone had a win in Burlington, ON? There is nothing listed on the Better Bidding Priceline Hotel List and I haven't found anything using the search engine. We are looking for something in late June. I have used Priceline several times, but I always had some indication of what we might win because of the great info found here. It is a totally new experience to bid totally "blind" If we do bid, I'll be happy to use the PRICELINE link.
  11. We won the 4 Points in Saginaw a couple of years ago. We were pleasantly surprised to find that our PRICELINE win included a simple (but very ample) breakfast in the adjoining restaurant. You might want to see if this still exists.
  12. Bid $32.00 received a counter bid of an additional $8.00 Tried to counter bid 1/2 of that ($4.00) (which I thought I had done successfully before, but it continued to ask for a counter bid of $8.00 and wouldn't let me proceed without at least that amount! Counrtyar by marriot Mississauga Airport Corporate Center West 5050 Creekbank Road Mississauga $40.00 per night x 3 nights $120.00 Service charge/tax 24.51 Total $144.51 US Dollars Used better bidding PRICELINE link to make the booking Thanks for all your previous help.....got the hotel I had hoped for at a good price! PS I had never used your search engine before...it is a great help!
  13. I always assumed that the GST and PST were included in the "Taxes and Fees" portion....
  14. I would like to obtain a room in the Toronto airport area on February 19-22 I considered 3.5 but the only win listed is the Marriot. The disadvantages of the Marriot $18.oo parking and fee for internet in room) seem to weigh against it. So my question. Has anyone recently bid or won a 3* in this area? My only desire is for a nice hotel with possibly a pool/hottub. Most of the 3 stars seem to qualify for this. Any help would definitely be appreciated.
  15. After your stay, could you please report back on what you find at the hotel. There are several negative reviews on Tripadvisor concerning this property...the most recent is July 2008 and it mentions that extensive renovations are being conducted. I would like to know if the renovations are completed and how you find your stay. Thanks.
  16. I think I've read somewhere that you can make last minute hotwire reservations. We are planning to go to the airport in Toronto on Christmas Day to pick up family. Normally southwestern Ontario has such mild Christmas weather, we never expected snow to change our plans. If we find we cannot get to the airport or if we decide to stay in Toronto once we get there, how late can we make hotwire reservations? And how soon after making the reservation, can one check in? The flight arrives at 9 pm Christmas Day.... Hopefuly we won't need this info, but once never knows....be prepared is my idea!
  17. Used the Betterbidding HOTWIRE link successfully this time!! Hotel is 2.5 star shows breakfast, pool and internet access $46.00 per night taxes/fees 11.26 for a total of $57.26 Hotel is Travelodge Oshawa 940 Champlain Avenue Oshawa, Ontario L1J 7A6 Have stayed here once before on a hotwire win. It is right off the 401 (you can see it from the 401) and there are restaurants etc close by. Last time I could not use the HOTWIRE link. this time I had difficulty using the HOTWIRE link using Internet Explorer, but was able to do so using Firefox. (Hope that info might help someone!)
  18. Auburn Hills Extended Stay America 1180 Doris Drive (NOT the Featherstone Dr. location) 2 star Amenities: Laundry Date: Friday July 25-Sat. July 26th Price 29.00 Fees/Taxes 9.60 Total 38.60 Some of the reviews for this hotel are negative. I found it to be quite adequate, clean, quiet, with good customer service. The carpet might be a bit dated, but no problem. The rooms contain full frig, stove top, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. (no coffee) Dishes are also in the room plus one packet of dish soap, dishtowel and cloth. There are no hairdryers, but later I read that they are available on request. It is a bit dificult to find, especially in the dark and given the fact that currently Doris Drive is under construction and temporarily a one way street running from Opdike to Featherstone. This was a great find on Hotwire and filled our need for a room while attending a conference at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
  19. Thanks for the hints....I tried putting the basics of the address in one line but it really insisted on a postal code. I finally called the hotwire phone number and made the booking that way....but I was so disappointed not to successfully use better bidding's link. Canadian Guy, I will try changing the country first next time, but I think I did that. Hopefully I will have better success next time I use hotwire! I will post my win and a review of the hotel shortly. Thanks for all your help.
  20. I put the entire Canadian address into the two lines of address. Our postal code is not a 5 digit number and so I can't get it to fit in the postal code area....as soon as I put it combination of letters and numbers then the site complains, it also seems to balk at the name of my town. If I leave the postal code blank, it complains. If I put a false code in, it doesn't match my credit card and it complains again. I've never had this problem before...maybe I'll just try again...but I don't want it to charge my credit card numerous times!!
  21. I want to book a room in Auburn Hills, MI. Using your link, HOTWIRE allows me to go through the entire process to book and even shows me the name of the hotel. (2* Homestead suites) However I cannot fit my Canadian address into the HOTWIRE designations. I have always put my address in and then just "fudged" the state and the postal code using a 5 digit number. Now however hotwire says that the address i have given and the one on my credit card do not match and it has not taken the payment. Can you help me? Would it be better to use paypal? Thanks for a quick response. This is for a conference and rooms are booking up fast.
  22. That's a great deal for Quebec City area...considering this is the midst of the 400th anniversary celebrations and accomadations are expensive!
  23. Might be the fact that 2008 is Quebec City's 400th anniversary. Lots of special activities and probably extra visitors might drive the prices up.
  24. Stayed in this motel using hotwire a couple of months ago. Nice indoor/outdoor pool...was crowded on Friday night, but we had the pool and hottub to ourselves on Saturday morning. Also with our room (purchased for $49.00 on hotwire) a continental breakfast was included. The breakfast, served in the adjoining restaurant could also be upgraded to a hot breakfast for a small fee. (sorry I don't recall how much). The breakfast included made the hotwire purchase (through savings barn of course!!) a real bargain.
