  1. Got this one for a friend travelling to Germany. First bid - accepted immediately. Regular rate on their website: 97 EURO per night. DeltaPurser :)
  2. I'm baaaaaaaaaack!!! Happy to report that I got the Sheraton Gateway SFO for $33. Best rate found on their website: $115. Started bidding at $31, but was rejected, so I added a downtown zone as a "free rebid", knowing there's no way in the world a hotel downtown would accept a $33 bid. Look for me jogging along the trail by the bay! DeltaPurser :)
  3. Hi there Harrism! I've personally never stayed at the Meridien in Milan, but I know the area fairly well from many layovers, and I can tell you that I have had no problems walking around the area... even at night. Your other winning bid, though... In Rome... sounds to me that hotel is close Termini (the main trainstation), and THAT, on the other hand, is an area I avoid at all costs! I got pickpocketed there a few years back, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. Other than that, enjoy both cities, and bring me back a Panettone! DeltaPurser :)
  4. Oh, if only I had read Paulieuk's POST before bidding on this!!! For a while there, it looked like a $59 bid in the east zone would land the Westin, then comes this newcomer... Curious what it's like. Location is not too bad, so we'll see... The lowest rate when booked online directly was 120 Euros per night, so it's still a good deal... And at least it's not the Park Plaza which is waaaaaaaaaaaay out there! DeltaPurser :)
  5. Your ideas are excellent... I especially like the "real photos" suggestion. As far as general "what to do/where to go" postings, let me share a saying I memorized a long, long time ago... "A scientist knows a lot about a little. He learns more and more about less and less, until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. A journalist knows a little about a lot of things. He learns less and less about more and more, until he knows absolutely nothing about everything." The moral of the story? Don't spread yourself too thin...
  6. Had to get a car for a friend visiting from out of town... Bid $28 for a "Standard" which was rejected with an offer to increase the price (without changing any of the options), which we declined. Total with taxes came out to $32 and change. About $10 less than the rate offered on alamo.com.
  7. So it's true... There IS a price for peace of mind. In this case $9. You may have gotten it for a cuple of $$ less, but it's still a great deal. I've stayed there several times and LOVE it. If you're brining a laptop with WiFi, make sure to ask for a room facing the library - the signal from there comes in strong enough, so you won't have to pay for their inhouse WiFi (which is free in the lobby, but not in the rooms). DeltaPurser :)
  8. I agree! I started using Netscape about a year ago when something went wrong with my old computer and I couldn't get online using IE (I still, to this day, have NO idea what happened). Today it is my default browser, and I LOVE the tabs you can use to open different windows... It takes a little getting used to, but it's definitely worth it once you get the hang of it. DeltaPurser :)
  9. Like they say... The squeaky wheel gets the grease! Good for you!!! DeltaPurser :)
  10. I love when others are as "cheap" as I am... With all the "free rebids" in downtown SFO, I (like you) see no need to increase my re-bids by more than $1 at a time. Have a nice stay! DeltaPurser :)
  11. Well, we were given a room in need of some serious updating, so as far as I'm concerned, it was at most a 3* hotel. Our bill, which had been slipped under our door the morning of departure, showed that PL had paid $59 for the room. As far as Hotwire room costing more than PL, I've noticed at one of the hotels in Florida (I happened to see a list of guests and the rates they paid) that accepts guests from both PL and Hotwire that the Hotwire rate is actually $2 less than PL, but with their fees higher than PL it ends up costing a little more. DeltaPurser :)
  12. I saw the restaurant and thought the setting was "to die for"... Is the food edible? DeltaPurser :)
  13. One word: DUMP! As friendly as the staff may have been, there is absolutely nothing "resort" about this place. More of a motel feel, if you as me. Old, run down, dingy... Awful setting! Construction sites, empty lots, trashy homes all around you. The ONLY nice thing about the place was the swimming pool and the jacuzzi. (And even this area is in need of a coat of paint and a good ol' fashioned scrubbing!) The $7 mandatory "resort fee" covers local and 800 calls and some other random items they had to search their brains to come up with. Ain't no way in the world I'm ever bidding for a Resort in the Chandler Vicinity in Phoenix again. Sorry! DeltaPurser :)
  14. Priceline had originally booked a smoking room w/ a king size bed. Changing it to a non-smoking room was no problem. Our room was on the 5th floor and had some seriously old furniture - U G L Y ! The courtyard IS very nice, and we enjoyed the free breakfast (even though the line for the hot breakfast was 15 minutes on the Sunday morning we were there). The pool: didn't even try it, as it was filled with screaming kids. Not really our crowd! And the fitness room wasn't really anything to write home about either: 4 or 5 treadmills. That's it. If it wasn't for the great breakfast, I'd rather stay elsewhere. DeltaPurser :)
  15. The best thing about this hotel: the Sweet Sleeper bed! We were given a non-smoking room facing the freeway/airport, but had no problems with noise. Even though we didn't eat there, the hotel DOES serve a breakfast buffet now. Minor problem: the airport shuttle only runs every 30 minutes, so you've gotta' time your departure right. We missed ours and walked over to the Embassy Suites to catch their shuttle which runs every 5-10 minutes. Nice setting... Along the waterfront. Perfect for strolling! DeltaPurser :)
  16. Second night of a weekend stay. Didn't want to spend the $$ we spent at the Embassy Suites the night before, so I did a new bid, starting at $38... Got a counter offer to add $14 which I gladly rejected. Added a zone and bid $41. Accepted at the Sheraton - within walking distance of the Embassy Suites. DeltaPurser :)
  17. Oops... I was wrong on the date (if it matters). It was actually from the night before: July 31 to August 1st... DeltaPurser :)
  18. Started bidding at $35 and kept adding zones until a $60 bid was accepted at the Embassy Suites Hotel SFO Burlingame. The lowest rate on embassysuites.com was $149. DeltaPurser :)
  19. Hi LGAflyer! Do you know if the hotel had an airport shuttle, by chance? DeltaPurser
  20. Congratulations and best wishes from Florida... DeltaPurser
  21. I think it stands for The Other Bulletin Board... DeltaPurser :)
  22. You are going to absolutely LOVE this hotel!!! We use it for our YUL layovers and the location is good, the rooms are clean/new, beds are awesome, and the staff really goes out of their way to make you feel welcome... Enjoy your stay! DeltaPurser :)
  23. I was going to suggest TriRail, which is a local train that runs between Miami and West Palm Beach, but since you are going on a cuise and probably have TONS of luggage, I wouldn't recommend this... You'd have to catch a bus from FLL airport to the TriRail station in Fort Lauderdale and then take the train to some point in Miami from where you'd catch a cab... If you're a masochist, you could still check it out at www.tri-rail.com. Enjoy your stay in beautiful South Florida! DeltaPurser :)
