  1. I've tried bidding $20 and $23 for a full size car from the Oakland airport and was rejected. Then I checked other rental car sites including Priceline's regular non-bidding car reservations. Priceline's regular non-bidding had Avis full size for $170 per week which comes out to $24.29 per day. I took that reservation since it's only $9 more for the week then I just bid. What's up with that? I thought bidding was supposed to be the least expensive way to go.
  2. I know not to bid using the PRICELINE links. I was just seeing where it took me because before I was just getting an error page for that trip. I always use betterbidding's links. I had accidentally put it in for 7 days and 1 hour so if they are basing it on 8 days the daily rate would be $95. Hotwire wanted $111/per day so we are giving up on getting a minivan and are just going to bid on a full size car. I tried bidding on one last night for $20 but it was rejected. I just checked Hotwire's price on a full size car and it has come down $3 from yesterday and is now $28. I will try PL again and come up a few bucks.
  3. Hi, thanks for the help. It seems to be working now. I have since gotten an email saying this was an 'unsuccessful bid, try again'. When I press the 'try again' button it says 'Unfortunately, our Name Your Own Price service was unable to locate an available rental car for the area and dates you selected. However, we have found a broad selection of rental car options below'. Minivans are offered at $760. Not acceptable! This is for 7 days one hour. I guess I clicked on the wrong returning time by half an hour. Last year we got a minivan off of Hotwire for $27 per day. Can't I rebid? I will see if I can change pick up area or something to rebid. BTW, I am using firefox 14.0.1 and I always use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links from your web site. Thanks!
  4. This is my first time bidding on a car. I tried to bid on a minivan out of OAK. While waiting for the bid to go through I got this error message: 'Bad Gateway The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.' What does this mean? I have tried to go back in to see if I won or to try the bid again but I just keep getting that error page. Thanks for any help you can give. Melba

  6. My sister moved to Wesley Chapel, a small town just outside of Tampa last year. Since we are going on a cruise out of Miami, we decided to extend our vacation to include several days in Florida and a drive to visit my sister in her new home. My sister's guest room is not furnished yet so we decided we would just sleep at a near by motel/hotel. My sister told me to stay at the Holiday Inn Express as it is very nice and near to her home. After checking this hotel's rate on the Internet ($106) we chose to bid on Priceline instead. I bid on PRICELINE up to $40 and still did not win a 2* in the Wesley Chapel/Zephyrhills area. Today I found that HOTWIRE had hotels there at a reasonable price. I chose the 2 1/2 * for $56 and it has turned out to be the very hotel my sister suggested. :) We leave for our vacation in the morning. I used the site's HOTWIRE link.
  7. OOPS...I meant: I wanted a 3 1/2* hotel near the Miami Airport. :)
  8. I wanted a 3* hotel near the Miami Airport. First bid...$40... Priceline counter offered to add $12. Second bid...$45... accepted. Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $45.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Room Subtotal: $45.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $13.39 (USD) Total Room Cost: $58.39 (USD) Hotel's web site price $143.65 plus tax, ADVANCED PURCHASE. I used the PRICELINE link.
  9. First bid $55...Priceline asked me to add $15. Second bid $60..nope, wanted $17?. Third bid $64... :) Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $64.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $128.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $23.53 (USD) Total Room Cost: $151.53 (USD) Hotel's web site price $249 and $259 = $508 + Tax. Forgot to mention that I used the PRICELINE link.
  10. Thanks! By the way, the Hotel List has the Catalina Hotel as a 3*. I guess PRICELINE changed it's star rating.
  11. I bid up to $85 for 2 rooms in South Beach for a 4*, 3 1/2*, and 3* hotel, but was rejected :) . The 2 1/2* rating was a "Best Deal" by Priceline :) but I only had 1 rebid zone :o . First bid $45 = rejected Second bid $55 = accepted :) ...so you may be able to get it for less. My husband and I are retired and living on a pension so I try to keep our hotel rooms to $100 or less. South Beach hotels usually charge an extra $15 resort fee. Reviews for this hotel are both good and terrible, but I have found that to be the case with all but the most expensive hotels there. My husband and I, and my brother and his wife, are all easy going people that don't stay in our room much so I think we will be happy with it. A free shuttle to the airport where we may pick up a PRICELINE car is also a $32 bonus! I love Priceline and this web site!!! I used the site's PRICELINE link. Melba
  12. FloridaFun, You CAN NOT choose what hotel you want when using PRICELINE's 'Name Your Own Price' bidding system. I just put in 4* in Downtown. However, I have bid for this area and star rate several times in the past few years and we have always gotten the Hyatt at a terrific rate! Prior wins $70 - $90. Also...we really like this hotel and so I cross my fingers and hope to get it. :)
  13. First bid $50 for 4* Downtown. Priceline countered to add $14. I Added $1 each bid just to see how low I could get it as I had 31 bids to use. Priceline accepted at $55. I used the PRICELINE link.
  14. Wanted 2 nights in a 3* in Northwest San Antonio area as a present for my sister who is traveling cross country. First bid: Northwest, $35 =rejected. Second bid: Northwest, Northeast (free rebid zone), $40 = rejected. Shut down and re-opened Priceline. Third bid: Northwest, South (free rebid zone), $43 = rejected, with Priceline offer of accepting if I paid $12 more. Shut down and re-opened Priceline. Forth bid: Northwest, Northeast (free rebid zone), South (free rebid zone), $45 = ACCEPTED! Subtotal: $90.00 Taxes & fees: $23.21 Total: $113.21 YIPPY!!! :D
  15. :) OOPS...I actually bid on a 3* but was up-graded to this 4*. Also, my dates got truncated somehow. Dates should be 3/16-3/19.
  16. Was trying for a 3* or better. Was hoping to get the Crowne Plaza again but at a slightly higher rate then previously won, but really didn't think that would happen. I did see that bids were being won for this hotel in the $75 range. I bid $65, $70, $75 and was rejected. Waited 24 hours and tried again starting at $75, Priceline counter offered asking me to add $22. I refused. I started a new bid with free re-bid zone at $85 and it was excepted. :) I have looked this hotel up on the Internet and it looks just wonderful to me and my husband. It has tropical gardens with waterfalls, swans, and koi ponds. Sounds like heaven to us! I sincerely want to thank Thereuare and everybody else who adds to these Priceline bidding boards. You people have taught me how to get better hotels while saving a lot of money! XOXOXO (((((Thereuare)))))
  17. I needed 5 nights of hotel rooms on the west side. I was actually trying to get this hotel because we stayed there before and enjoyed it very much and I saw that someone else (on a cruise forum) had won it for $67. I was unsuccessful at getting all 5 nights bidding up to $65 so I decided to break the five nights up. I checked the hotels web site and saw that the Crowne was bumping their rate for Sun., Mon., and Tue. so I just bid for a 3* for Fri 3/14 and Sat. 3/15. I only had 2 re-bid zones so I started at $60 and was rejected. Bid $65 and won. I was offered to add a night at possibly the same rate but then was told no, but I could have it for $193. :) I don't like to pay more then $100 for a hotel room so I decided to shoot for a different hotel for my remaining nights.
  18. I just won this hotel also. I am thrilled! It looks absolutely beautiful in the photos. I called Hyatt and asked if they charged a resort fee and I was told that they did at one time, but no longer do. Priceline's printout needs up-dateing.
  19. I bid $70 PL asked me to up it $22. I declined, added a re-bid zone, and bid $75 and won. I AM DONE! I got all of my rooms!
