  1. In the end no. We have decided to spend that particular night in Girdwood after all so don't need the room. If we had done Anchorage we would definitely have taken the deal. Priceline has no 4* hotels in Anchorage and with the big name hotel groups included in the motley crew of 3* hotels it's too big a risk to take. The hotwire hotel list for Anchorage only lists a 2.5* hotel so perhaps you might like to add this?
  2. Needed an airport hotel for 19 September, hotwire had 4* for over $100 so we headed to Priceline through SavingsBarn. I bid $75 and got rejected. Hubby tried his account and bid $85 and was accepted. Sheraton site says rooms from $249 so we're happy. Have stayed in this hotel before and it's a decent airport hotel. Love those beds!
  3. D'oh! Did a package search and it is indeed the Captain Cook. With taxes and fees it's $159.90. Hotel's own site is $155 plus taxes which brings it to $178. Not a great saving but a saving all the same.
  4. 4* hotel coming up on hotwire for Central Anchorage. $138 a night for September 25. Icons: Pool Fitness Centre Spa Restaurant Business Centre Laundry facilities Not sure whether Hotwire has upgraded the status of one of the 3* hotels or if this is the Captain Cook?
  5. A final update on this. We received gift vouchers for a local travel agent as a gift. That agent was able to get us the Hilton on South Michigan for about $200 a night and the vouchers covered about $250 of that so we decided to take that option and cancel the Affinia. Thanks for all your help on this, now off to sort our last 2 nights in Alaska, see if we can get a better deal in Vegas than our cancellable reservation and book an airport hotel at LAX. Will post any results we get through priceline and/or hotwire and use all requested links.
  6. We're up to $140 (slow increments) on NMA with no success yet, following the post on the Palmer House Hilton at under $100 for similar dates have added the Loop etc and failed at $90, $95 and $100 for 4 star and boutique. Not giving up yet but thought I'd update the thread anyway!
  7. Hotwire does Anchorage and the airport... The Aleyska Prince is in Girdwood, 30 miles out. Will keep looking at other sites, unfortunately a lot of the travel sites don't cover this area.
  8. We booked the Holiday Inn express directly rather than bid on priceline for Seward and got a really good price. Then again, we are going in September! Good luck!
  9. We're looking at staying the night of September 24th, we only have 4 nights in Alaska, 2 in Anchorage (1 already booked - the other probably at the airport and a HOTWIRE job) and 1 in Seward (booked).
  10. We're hoping to do a night in Girdwood as part of a multi-stop trip in the US. So I was delighted to see the Aleyska prince on the priceline list - anyone know how likely I am to find it, or at what rate? Hotel's own site says $400 a night
  11. Just booked the Affinia (cancellable) thru Quikbook so at least we're sure we have a bed! Will keep checking HOTWIRE and priceline, fingers crossed! Thanks for your help so far, will update the thread as I go along!
  12. Ideally we don't want to have to change either star rating or location. It's a brief stay, we arrive late Weds night and leave early Friday morning so location is important. I think we paid about $180 on HOTWIRE this time last year for the James just off Michigan so don't want to go above that really. We're seasoned priceline/hotwirers so know not to panic yet but there didn't seem to be any other posters here for those dates hence my asking.... Thanks for those links thereyouare...will give it a week and then book something cancellable just in case!
  13. Trying to book a room in Chicago for hubby and me in late September. We are tied to dates so it's Setpember 26-28. It's convention time again so 4* coming in at $300+. Couldn't get the Grand Hyatt on the travelzoo deal even though our dates are within the included range. So far have tried up to $120 for 4+ and boutique. How high do we need to go? PS am using links requested
  14. Bid on a 4* in Lisbon yesterday, starting bid $60 - rejected. Tried at $61 today and bid accepted. Got the Marriott for a saving of over $300 for the stay!
  15. Fitness Center Pool Restaurant Laundry facilities oops - the price should be $142, sorry!
  16. Have just scooped the 3* Holiday Inn Mission Bay on Hotwire for $146 a night. It wasn't there this morning so we're delighted we spotted it. What a relief!
  17. Trying to sort a room for my in-laws for their visit to San Diego and have failed so far up to $160. This seems much higher than recent wins on this and other boards. Any suggestions as to strategy from here? Have been using re-bids as per usual PL strategy but no success. Splitting the stay not an option. Thanks
  18. Failed up to $120, even after adding Westminster and Regents Park/Baker St. Ended up booking a secret hotel on www.lastminute.com - got the 4* Holiday Inn Regents Park for
  19. Have since failed at $98, $100, $102 and $105 :) Ideally they want to be as central as possible without having to use the tube (claustrophobia). Will try up to $110 and then convince them to try a bit further out.
  20. Booking a room for my sister and her boyfriend for the weekend of July 14-16. So far have failed at $80, $82, $85 and $89. Was hoping to get the Thistle Marble Arch for around $85 as others on here have - no luck so far. Want to hopefully come in at under $100 a night to allow for PL fees and taxes to total around
  21. An update to this - I got another email less than 24 hours later to say that they had spoken to the hotel. The only problem might be noise (pretty obvious I thought!!) but the staff member they spoke to said they would make arrangements for us not to be affected...which I hope means a room far away from the works...only time will tell!
  22. Booked our hotel (Marriott Regents Park - London) through Priceline last week. Logged on to hotel's website to see that the hotel is being refurbished (soft?) 7 days a week. In my experience, a hotel undergoing such works cannot claim to be a 4 star hotel for the duration of the works. Mailed Priceline - response 1 (automatic, we will respond within 3 hours) Response 2 - we understand your concerns. Has been passed to customer services, we will reply by email within 2 business days. Mailed after 3 bus days - response - you need to call us on.... Mailed back stating that I'm not in the US so couldn't call that number. Response - here's an international number. Mailed back to say I'm not calling you, you said you'd sort it by email and quoted from their mail. Response - you have to call us. Mailed back to say you said you'd mail me. I am not paying for an international call, it can be sorted by email so maybe when your US office opens they might mail me. (all other replies have been from people who sign off in the format used in India). Response - we have contacted the hotel, we will come back to you within 3-5 working days. I find this amazing, why did I have to resort to pointing out where their "customer service" is located to get any pretence of a result?
  23. Having seen wins on here for the Hilton Metropole (which we love) I decided to go straight in (via SavingsBarn) at $125 a night. Now wish I'd played it a bit cooler, but not having re-bids made me more decisive going in. Anyway I got the Mariott Regents Park, not over the moon about location but that's the chance you take with Priceline.
  24. Can you make a cancellable reservation (like through www.Quikbook.com) at a place you wouldn't mind staying in and then come back to priceline for nearer your date. I was up to $197 a night for 4* on Priceline for May last week, then left it and a 4* for $150 today. It is important to have a fall back if you're going to wait it out on priceline.
