  1. For the time being, I would look into booking the Hyatt Financial District/Embarcadero on Lastminutetravel.com for $152/nite. It shows as "on request", but I have booked "on request" hotels before in SF, and LMT came through. We always book the Financial District/Embarcadero area and public transportation being what it is, it's quite easy to get around. The Hyatt is a stones throw away from the ferry building, and a stroll down the Embarcadero gets you to Fisherman's Wharf. Bookings are cancelable up to 3 days before checkin, then you can leisurely continue bidding on PRICELINE. Good luck either way.
  2. Are you saying the highest you want to bid is $170, or are you dead set on USE, and no other downtown zones?
  3. Called LMT directly regarding this reservation, and rate is now $139/nite. More $$$ in my pocket. Best rate on hotel website still $322/nite. Property changing ownership to Thompson Hotels next year.
  4. Booked Sutton Place while watching the future bidding on Priceline and what happens on Hotwire. Cheapest I've seen on Sutton Place website and others was $322/nite. No availability on Priceline or Expedia. Looks like we'll be able to end the night at Morton's or Gibson's for a nightcap. Please change dates in title to 9/19 - 9/22. Thanks.
  5. They advertise on their site that lower rates are sometimes available by calling.
  6. We stayed at the Omni a while back, and it did come with the breakfast buffet, above and beyond the complimentary Select Guest morning drinks. Just checked my confirmation from that stay, and it did specify "breakfast buffet" under "board base". Might want to call LMT and ask, and you might even get a cheaper rate. Good luck.
  7. Just wanted to chime in here with my $.02. We pretty much stay in the Financial District/Embarcadero...usually the Omni...when we visit. The area does quiet down in the evenings, but there are plenty of places to kick back. A Muni pass is great way to take advantage of the public transportation options: Cable cars, F-line trolley, Muni buses, and Muni subway, though not BART. There are a lot of high end bars/restaurants in the area, some of them quite well known like Michael Mina's. In the area there is Bob's Chop House in the Omni, near MM's is Tadich Grill...best seafood, Perbacco, Barbacco, Wayfare Tavern, Palio's, Alfred's steakhouse and others. The Ferry Building has a boatload of small establishments that always look busy. The Slanted Door gets rave reviews for Modern Vietnamese. With your Muni pass, you can hop on the cable car and head up California Street and visit the Top of the Mark in the Mark Hopkin's Intercontinental, or any number of establishments along the way. All in all, I would consider the FE/E area to be safer than the USE/USW, but always be aware. Good luck.
  8. Amenities were: Pets allowed, Restaurant, Business Center, Fitness Center. Originally had booked a free night at this Omni, but decided might be better to use our two free nights later in the year for trip to New York. Current rates are around $500.
  9. Hey BEAV....Didn't know about it til this booking. Looks like it's going to be a tough week for hotels in this area. Tried Hyatt on LMT twice and rejected both times. Anxious to see how bidding goes.
  10. Rates are a bit high for this date, and had bid close to $200, then Priceline Express Deals shows up and thought I would take a gamble. They rated the FD/E hotel as 9 or more out of 10. Omni only usual Priceline hotel in this area with rating of 9 or above, so confidence was high. Best price on Omni website $328 nonrefundable...$365 refundable. I know I accessed PRICELINE via link on this site, but had a lot of windows open...hope you get credit.
  11. Villa Florence San Francisco hotel now 3* per retail/packages on Priceline.
  12. Bid up to $135 in Financial District/Embarcadero on Priceline using multiple rebid zones. Booked this for now while I continue bidding the next month or so.
  13. Been watching this offering on Hotwire for weeks, and seeing it's just for one night, went for it. Looking at the next two nights in San Francisco. Close to Flemings and Morton's for happy hour. Almost forgot amenities. Fitness Center Business Center Pool High Speed Internet Restaurant Tennis Nearby Free Internet Accessible for Blind Accessible Path Accessible Bathroom Accessible for Deaf Handicapped Parking In-room Accessibility Wheelchair Accessible Roll in Shower Used HOTWIRE link on this site.
  14. Not an admin here, but this particular hotel has a 3.5* out of 5* Tripadvisor rating, which matches the Hyatt. The amenities match also.
  15. Have a Dutch Baby at the Original Pancake House across the street. You won't be disappointed. Makes me wish I could stay in Chicago next week....we are changing planes at MDW on our way to Atlanta.
  16. The geography doesn't seem right to be the Taj. I would think the Mandarin Oriental is a possibility.
  17. You could book the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower on Lastminutetravel.com for $91/nite for your entire stay, while you continue bidding for a 4*. LMT rates it as 4*, Priceline as 3.5*. This hotel allows cancellations up to 3 days before checkin.
  18. You can get the Omni on Lastminutetravel.com for $202/nite for dates listed.
  19. I suggest you call and tell the nice people at Lastminutetravel.com, that you are interested in either one of these properties. Tell them you think it looks like they are $122/nite and see if they can get you a better deal. They have an ongoing promotion that if you call, you can sometimes get a better deal. Good luck.
  20. Cable car and F-line trolley will get you near to North Beach, and the #30 Stockton bus goes right through Chinatown to North Beach.
  21. Why not book either the 4* Wyndham or 3.5* Embassy Suites on Lastminutetravel.com for $122/nite while you continue bidding for something under $150 on Priceline. LMT bookings are cancelable up to 3 days prior to your stay.
  22. Lastminutetravel.com has the Embassy Suites Chicago Downtown for $225/nite, available. It's about 5 or so blocks from the Grand-Red station. Besides full breakfast, they also have Manager's Reception nightly. You could try the James on LMT for $228/nite, their rating 5*, but they are "on request", and it might take a day or so to find out if you have a booking. Can't beat the location for night life, and closer to the Grand-Red station.
  23. For seafood, you can't go wrong with Glenn's Diner. It's about 20 steps from the Montrose stop on the Brown line.
