blkjck1
Still think that it is a little too far out to get anything at a decent rate right now, especially considering rates are high in the City. Just trying to feel things out and see what it might take as we get closer to the arrival dates, and had some downtime at the office.Started bidding at $150 in MTE and received a counteroffer for $330. Refused, and bid up to $200 using all rebid zones, again getting the counteroffer of $330 at $185 before using up my last rebid zone at $200. Similarly, I was refused on all bids from $150-205 in the Times Square area, receiving no counteroffers. I stopped bidding to do some real work at the office. Proud to be Canadian! Link to comment
sequoia650
I have been trying every day in New York for dates in that range, the week before Memorial Day, and yesterday I received the same odd counteroffer of $330 in Downtown. I was wondering if those counteroffers mean anything at all in terms of the inventory, or if its kind of random. Link to comment

blkjck1
Failed bid level now up to $225 in MTE and Times Square. Bids in both areas started at $175, and used all rebid zones before hitting my ceiling of $225. Haven't tried any of the other 4* zones, but would expect more of the same. Proud to be Canadian! thereuare
I assume there is a reason you're avoiding the other midtown zones? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
blkjck1
I assume there is a reason you're avoiding the other midtown zones? No real reason. Partly to be consistent with the thread right now, and I don't want to spend an hour or two of my time to get to where I want to get to right now. Proud to be Canadian! Link to comment
blkjck1
As an FYI to the board, I have bid in all neighbourhoods from $175-250 for 4* with no success right now. I will still try on Priceline on a regular basis between now and the trip, but I have made a cancellable reservation for Gild Hall through the Quikbook link for an average $237/night before we move onto the Hyatt Regency on the Hudson for 4 nights. I also have the option of being at the Eastgate Towers through a booking made through Expedia.ca (the only option for an Expedia user in Canada). Proud to be Canadian! Link to comment
blkjck1
Looks like this particular time period is not going to yield anything unless I go at least at least $250+, and even then there would be no guarantee. Hotwire is not showing anything promising, and we've decided that we want to spend a few nights in Manhattan before we go to Jersey City for our final 4 nights in New York. We're going to stay with the Quikbook booking at Gild Hall, which we've received for an average of $223+taxes a night (originally, it was going to be $237+ a night, but we found a lower price). Quikbook is no longer showing availability, and Thompson Hotel's website is showing rooms available at $649+ per night. I read a Apr. 24 newspaper article that suggested that the construction would be done by the end of April, so it appears that the soft opening for the hotel may have ended. Proud to be Canadian! thereuare
Glad you booked the Gild when you did... those current prices would sure be indicative of the end of a soft opening! :)I look forward to hearing about this property. Thanks for the updates.
