Priceline Hotel: 4* NYC (MTE) Grand Hyatt

So I'm frustrated on priceline not liking any of my bids. I'm trying to book a hotel for 6/25-6/27. I am hoping to pay my usual 100-120 priceline rates for NYC (MTE, MTW, TS, CPS, ES, HK... etc.) but it's not liking any of my bids.

I think it's fairly early for the timeframe I am booking for (looking at my sucessful bid history it tends to be 2-3 weeks closer to the booking date). I think I should increase by bidding, but I am unsure how much. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Especially since Consumer Report recently put out an article saying expect to pay more for travel this summer. I definately think my bidding is too low. Of course I know it's not a guarantee that I will get a lower rate if I wait till June to book this hotel.

Have you looked at the Calendar of Wins (center of this page) for your dates? If there are NYC reportings for your zones, that might give you a better idea of what will work.

For the record, there is "sticker shock" for many cities this year, including NYC.

I have read that last minute bidding can yield some better deals in NYC, but I've no personal experience to back that.

Have you made a cancelable back-up reservation? With that in hand, it can be easier to stay on a bidding strategy until the last minute.

Wow totally didn't see that new feature even though it's in red right in the center. Saw someone got a MTW deal for $151... I think I would try to bump it my bidding a bit. The thing that kills me is the tax rate in NYC.. it's so much. I'm trying to keep it under $300 for the 2 nights after taxes.

I was thinking of suggesting the calendar since I tend to scroll through the first 1-2 pages of NYC like I usually do get an idea of prices (and of course search regular priceline for median price and hotwire to see what they are offering) :)

I haven't made a cancel-able rev yet... I will soon trying to run a number if discounts I have access to.

So I originally wanted a room for 06/25-06/27 (see my priceline hotel thread), it looks like the system didn't like that Saturday. I got this price for that Sunday night only on my first try. I will try again in a week or two to see if I can get a similar price room for that Sat. I don't think I would mind checking out of one hotel and dropping my things off at another :) and who knows If i'm lucky, I'll get the grand hyatt again for that sat.

As always, using Priceline for great deals.
