  1. Actually I'm checking out on 12/4 (3 nights) not 12/3 so I think I phrased my post incorrectly. You did point out something interesting however, obviously that the rate skyrockets for the night of 12/3 (a saturday). The cheapskate in me wants to split my stay, but I know that wouldn't go over well with the others!
  2. I stayed at this hotel in the spring of this year, thought I got a killer deal for a beachfront location, but upon arrival was ushered to the "Golf" location. Don't get me wrong, the golf location was the finest hotel I've ever stayed in; the bathroom was the most spectacular bathroom I've ever seen, whether in a home or hotel. Enormous, all travertine tile, huge soak tub, huge steam rain shower, even had a bidet! The hotel is unbeleivable. The only downside is that it's a 5 minute shuttle ride to the beach. I went to the beach a few times, the pool there is something out of Vegas. Anyway, either way its a great hotel, but maybe be ready to slip the clerk some cash if you want to stay beachfront.
  3. First bid of $50 accepted, now I'm wishing I would've started lower! Hyatt website shows lowest rate at $169/night so I'm very, very pleased!
  4. Going to New Orleans for a wedding this weekend and am looking to secure 3 rooms. My preference is to say in the French Quarter, but since it looks like the Downtown hotels that hit on Priceline are pretty close to The Quarter, I'm willing to stay in that district if I can save some money. I reviewed past successes on the site and bid as follows... 4* French Quarter Bid $60... Rejected Rebid $64.... Rejected Rebid $68.... Rejected Rebid $72.... Rejected Rebid $76.... Rejected Rebid $80.... Rejected Rebid $84.... Rejected Rebid $88.... Rejected Rebid $92.... Rejected Rebid $96.... Rejected Rebid $100.... Rejected Rebid $104.... Rejected Rebid $108.... Rejected Rebid $112.... Rejected Rebid $116.... Rejected Rebid $120.... Rejected At this point I pretty much exhausted my bids for the day, so I decided to take a crack at the Downtown district... 4* Downtown Bid $50... Rejected Rebid $55.... Rejected Rebid $60.... Rejected Rebid $65.... Rejected Rebid $70.... Rejected Rebid $75.... Rejected Rebid $80.... Rejected Rebid $85.... Rejected Rebid $90.... Rejected Rebid $95.... Rejected Rebid $100.... Rejected Rebid $105.... Rejected I'm disappointed given I see a lot of previous wins in the $60/night neighborhood, with probably 90% under $100. Not sure where I'm going to take things from here, there is a 4* in Hotwire in the Downtown district for $134 which looks like it could be the Sheraton, Inter-Continental or W Hotel. It doesn't look like I can touch anything in the French Quarter for less than $175, so I might pick up my bidding at $120 tomorrow.
  5. Was looking for a 4* in either Clearwater Beach or Treasure Island. Since it looks like not much hits for 4* on Clearwater Beach, I assumed I'd end up on Treasure Island... Started bidding at $75... Rejected Rebid $80... Rejected Rebid $85... Rejected Rebid $90... Rejected Rebid $95... Rejected Rebid $100... Rejected Rebid $105... Rejected Rebid $110... Rejected (This is when Priceline asked me to increase my bid by $30 to bid again right away, so I knew I was getting close) Rebid $115... ACCEPTED! All in all looks like a great deal for those dates, well below published rates.
  6. Just looking for a place on the cheap to stop and sleep on my way to the Cape. Started with Betterbidding PRICELINE link: Chose 3* Raynham-Middleboro... Bid $45... Rejected. Chose 2.5* Raynham-Middleboro... Bid $45... Rejected. Chose 2* Raynham-Middleboro... Bid $45... Rejected. Waited 24 hours... Chose 3* Raynham-Middleboro... Bid $50... Rejected. Chose 2.5* Raynham-Middleboro... Bid $50... Rejected. Chose 2* Raynham-Middleboro... Bid $50... ACCEPTED... Days Inn Middleboro Website lists cheapest rate at $75, so not a bad deal!
  7. Thanks for the tip Aaron! Oddly enough, my first bid today at $70 was sucessful and we won the 19 Atlantic! I'm a little disappointed that there is no pool, and given that I could Orbitz the hotel for $80/night, its not quite the Priceline deal I would have hoped, but I'm sure we'll make do!
  8. Round 3... Bid $60... Rejected. Added Chesapeake - Bowers Hill, Bid $65.... Rejected.
  9. Gave it another try... Bid $50... Rejected. Added Chesapeake - Bowers Hill, Bid $55.... Rejected. I'll give it another go in 24 hours... cheapest rooms otherwise are with Hotwire at around $99, so I'll keep at it with Priceline.
  10. Started bidding with 2* since the previously posted 2* seem more likely to be beachfront (ie Fairfield & La Quinta)... *3 seems most likely to snag the Doubletree which I would like to avoid since it seems its a distance from the beach. Bid $40... Rejected. Added Chesapeake - Bowers Hill, Bid $45.... Rejected. I'll give it another go in 24 hours and let you know!
  11. Looking to go to Boston for the weekend. This bid was for 2 rooms the weekend of 8/8 thru 8/10. Bid $65 for Quincy Market... Failed Added Brighton for $70... Failed Bid $75 for Quincy Market and Medford... Failed Added Brighton for $80... Failed Bid $85 for Quincy Market and South Boston... Failed Added Brighton for $90... Failed Added Medford for $95... Failed Will probably try again in a day or two. Not looking to spend more than $100/night so I might have to switch areas or lower the star level.
  12. Since I was bidding for a reservation the next day, I didn't want to lowball it too much so I bid $80 for a 2.5* and was accepted. Since this is the only commercial hotel in Ellicottville, I was pretty sure that if my bid went though, this is the hotel I would get. There was also a 2* option, and I have no idea where one would be placed if they successfully bid on a 2*. As far as I can see, no one has ever posted a winning bid for Ellivottville, which is a quaint village, outside of Buffalo. They are home to a major ski resort, so this is good info for any skiers!
  13. Not feasable to split my stay and Hotwire doesn't have anything attractive for under $200/night. At this point I'll have to raise my max bid, maybe to $150 and keep my fingers crossed...
  14. Pretty much using the same bidding pattern, I bid up to $130 for 4* Downtown and was rejected every single time, then I used the same bidding pattern on 4* in Copley up to $130 and still had no luck. I'm afraid of bidding on a 3* downtown for fear that I'll get the Boston Park Plaza and get stuck in one of those little European rooms with my buddy which would not be cool.
  15. More bidding opportunities??? I haven't been rejected that many times since my senior prom! I'll probably try again tonight starting at $100 for the Downtown 4*. I'd like to keep it under $125 based average bids for Boston...
