  1. bids: 50, 55, 60, 65 (list: $159), almost 60% off. I was a little concerned about bidding in this zone because this hotel is listed here under downtown. I read elsewhere it may be listed under the North Shore zone. So decided to try it since on TripAdvisor, everything in that area had good reviews compared to the downtown area. It looks like this is a new zone. TripAdvisor Reviews
  2. I started at 140,150,160..I wanted to stop at 170 but went for it again. haha. not the best price, but oh well. Hopefully this area and hotel is good. tried the following zones also on the listed dates. I was just testing the limits but went overboard today with the ESB zone. central park 180 14-Feb midtown east 150 13-Feb midtown west 165 14-Feb Times Square 160 13-Feb Thanks!
  3. let me ask you guys something...if I am unsuccessful at a bid today..at say 135..can I retry that bid 2-3 days later and win based on the same bids?
  4. Ya I am waiting for the airline tickets to come down a little before I make the final decision on dates. So right now it's a wait and see approach. I am thinking of adding the Financial district zone. It might be the best option to keep the cost down. The 4* hotels are about 100 bucks more for the first set of dates and the 3.5* are like 60 more.
  5. Ya so far I have been up to: 4* - 117 3.5 - 110 3 - 95 in the Union Square East zone.
  6. i asked this on tripadvisor and someone said: From May 21st-25th the US Travel Association is hosting a moderate sized convention (5,500 attendees and 3,700 rooms). Although dwarfed by something like Orace OpenWorld (45,000 attendees and 15,700 rooms) it's still enough to put a dent in the room inventory around Union Square, particularly because I suspect some of the local hotels will be "showing off" their charms. www.ustravel.org/events/international-pow-wow
  7. So I am planning a trip to SF for 4 days, 3 nights towards the end of May. My original plan was to do May 21-24 (Sat-Tues) but I am having a tough time with hotels on regular sites and priceline. I can shift it down a day or two if that will help. Second option is to do May 29 Sunday to Wed or something. Any idea on why Expedia shows no rooms for the first weekend? Something crazy going on? How will memorial day impact the normal activities the second weekend?
  8. alright guys...i ended up changing the dates just a little bit because it felt like i had to go well into the 200s to get anything good. wasn't ready to bid for days inn just yet. lol. i shifted it down to 16 to the 18th. wed to friday. i wish i could have done fri/sat but GF has a test monday and has to study the weekend. started with WT/HT and went up to 170 (4 star)...then 180 (3.5 star). i don't know why i stopped at 170 for the WH..lol. then started again on Dupont. rebidded up to 185 and got the Dupont Hotel. 4* DC (Dupont) Dupont Hotel $185 3/16-3/18 Thanks for all the help.
  9. I have bid about 190 on 4* in DT/WH, Dupont, Foggy Bottom, Capitol Hill, Cystal City. NOTHING! on 3.5* I have done up to 185 and on 3* ..135$. This is getting costly.
  10. you think it will be a little lower as it gets closer to the dates?
  11. how much would I need to up my bid by for these areas? I would ideally like it to be under 150 a night otherwise I will have to go down to 2*... :) so far I have go up to: 115 on 4* 95 on 3.5* 75 on 3* seems low now that I see it like that. bump it by $30 on everything?
  12. Don't know how accurate this is..but I read that the capitol hill area can get a little too quiet at night. I was planning on walking to the memorials in the evening time to get some pictures. i tried dupoint last night also. 115 --- 4* Dupoint (90-95-100-105-115) 95 --- 3.5* (80-85-90-95)  I ended up with these dates because of the flight costs and available times. I can also add a night or move it forward 1 night. 3/14-3/17 (mon-thurs) or 3/15-3/17 (tues-thurs). If I fly Fri to Sun (3/18 to 3/20)...airline costs go up about $180 for me. So it's not worth it really to move my entire trip around to get the best hotel rates. Plus train costs more on the weekend etc. Hotwire ----- Mon-Wed- $250 for 4 star in the white house area. St. Gregory online -- $320 per night ($215 for the same nights in February). How far early do you guys book?
  13. Today was my first day searching but so far no luck. I am flying into BWI via Southwest from Houston ($250) and going to take the train to Union Station. Planning to see the major visitor locations like the monuments/memorials. I have tried up to the following prices with multiple bids: $110 --- 4* White House/Downtown $85 ----3.5* $75 ----3* $105 --- 4* Foggy bottom $85 ----3.5* Is Dupoint a good alternative for a newbie coming to DC for the first time? Am I out of luck with these prices..or just too early? Thanks Justin
  14. i stayed there for 3 days june 27-30. nice hotel. only complaint was parking was 12 a night per car. when i talked to front desk about parking another car..they go sure..we will only charge you for one. when i was leaving after 3 days the lady at the parking thing was like well do you have any proof they said that..i was like nope. and they ended up charging for both cars for 3 nights. ($70).
