  1. Had a great deal, equivalent to
  2. just to update - failed miserably to get a good deal this time - ended up with a non-opaque purchase at the Cosmopolitan for 900$ inc taxes - but thanks for the help anyway guys. Next time I'll try earlier!!
  3. Nope! I'm working on the basis that there are thousands of rooms in NY and I'll get one - it may not be as plush as I would like......but I won't be on the street! May have to consider going down to 3* if I don't have any luck this weekend. The prices I was going up to excluding Saturday night weren't looking great bargains, I could book the New Yorker for 987 for the 3 nights exc taxes - and Priceline wasn't coming up much short of that when I was bidding 210.
  4. Well - I've broken it down to 3 nights, 5th - 8th and had no luck with up to 210$.... Will try again tomorrow
  5. thanks for that clarification.... I suppose that, if that's the case, getting a good deal x3 nights would offset a more expensive 1st night. Had a quick check on Trip advisor for reviews of Hudson which are less than flattering.... Will give it some thought. If I tried to split the stay - I'd hope to stay in same area (I think) so a plan would be to pick, say, Downtown for 5 - 8 at a lowish rate and then have to go up above my 240 limit for the first night and hope to get somewhere close to my cheaper stay? Is that correct?
  6. hmmm, getting a little nervous - tried again yesterday and today with no luck. I may have to go down to 3* (reluctantly) but can then comfort myself with the thought I'll be saving more money.... If I can't get a 3.5* for 220 (which is as high as I've been) then how much will I have to pay to get a 3*?
  7. hi - just been through bidding again - thought I was in luck with the MSG & Chelsea & Downtown at 215$ .... went to a .."we'll know the answer within 15 minutes" screen (the only time it had done that) ... but still unlucky. Will try again tomorrow, still got 3 weeks yet (although I see someone has the Empire at 240.... so not far off)! thanks for all your help.
  8. no luck - will try again in a couple of days - or may have to increase a little?
  9. a walk to the subway isn't a problem - so yes we'll go for 3.5* in Downtown, Chelsea, MSG, ESB and MTE (in that order!)
  10. Thanks - will include MTE in as well then. I haven't bid Chelsea or ESB 4* - that is correct. Yes, I'd be happy to go down to 3.5* to get something cheaper than 215$ -and my maximum is 240$ per night. I had a hotwire price alert today which shows prices are dropping - SoHo at 237$ for a 3.5* , and also a 3.5* in Central park for 249$. Unfortunately Hotwire site is down for maintenance at the moment so I can't check the amenities to see which they could be ..... I'd still prefer the thrill of naming my own price though!! thanks again.
  11. Thanks for response. I've only bid 4* so far. max was indeed 215. Husband would prefer not to split - "too much faffing" ... :) So - I'd like Downtown Soho, Chelsea, or MSG or ESB (think MTE is too close to Times Square)! Would go down to 3.5* - one stay, no splitting - up to 240$ thanks in advance.
  12. thanks for that - sounds like a plan! I suppose I could start with downtown and break him in gently to the noise and lights!! Will try that later today - any strategy help gratefully received!
  13. thanks - I have been before and stayed in MSG - am going this time with my husband who has never been and isn't really (if I'm honest!) looking forward to it. Our daughter staying in SoHo and thought that would suit her dad better than the bright lights of, say Times Square! So, yes, the areas are a bit random, but for the reasons outlined earlier (good successful bids by others).
  14. Thanks for reply. I think I'd prefer Downtown or MGS (the CPS was just on the back of someone getting a good deal at Loews for same dates!). I saw someone had hotwired Embassy Suites for 212$ for these dates as well, been tracking hotwire and can't see prices anything like that (and couldn't at the time!). Will make a concerted effort in next week to get something booked. My criteria - at least 3.5* Downtown or MSG and as near to 200 as poss - up to 240$ tops! bbolton - will check your thread - thanks!
  15. Hi- tried a few bids earlier. started with Soho (all 4*) 190$ added long island 195 coney island 200 all rejected added upper eastside 212 added CPS 215 so no luck..... may have to go down to 3 1/2 * and start again?
