freckles1029 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Hi,I am trying to get a hotel in DC for the dates 5/9/10-5/14/10. I have been watching both priceline and hotwire for about a month. I am looking for:1. 1 Room2. In areas with likely access to metro (no car, flying)Areas I have been trying are Capitol - Convention Center; White House/Downtown, Dupont Circle, Crystal City, and Arlington3. 3 star is fine4. This is a vacation so we are flexible on location as we plan to explore many parts of the city -- just want metro access5. I saw that I might be more successful if I split my time and tried to bid on two different times but I really rather not move part way through the week.I have been bidding since mid March on priceline. I started low - around $80 with only 4 star and have expanded my areas and downgraded to 3 star and now am up to $120 with no luck. Any tips? I have found a 3-star hotel in one of the areas above for $139 on HOTWIRE -- is that the best you think I can get?
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Which area was the HOTWIRE listing showing in, and what were the amenities showing with the listing? Please the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
freckles1029 Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 The hotwire 3 star hotel for $139 is for Crystal City/Reagan the amenities are:Airport Shuttle; Fitness Center; Pool; Restaurant; Business Center; Laundry; High Speed Internet Access(We are flying into Dulles so the airport shuttle is not really an incentive for us...but that's okay!)Thanks!
yellowdog Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 freckles1029Best guess would be Radisson Reagan Airport,Please use the site's HOTWIRE link to start your purchase, and let us know how it goes or if you need any additional help with your stay.Yellowdog.PS. Please follow-up this thread with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancell your trip, etc.
thereuare Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 The HOTWIRE property above matches previous reports for the Radisson Reagan Airport so that would be my best guess for this one (a secondary guess would be the Holiday Inn if it's now also showing Shuttle and Internet icons, two services the hotel does offer but amenity icons the hotel has not previously used)Not sure how firm your budget is, but if considering the above, i would also consider stretching a bit and look at the 3.5* in the White House zone for just a bit (~$30/nite) more as the location may be more convenient being directly downtown which would also save time commuting each day. (i'm guessing the 3.5* is the Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel, but if you're willing to increase your budget we can look further and/or confirm amenities)... but that point perhaps raising your PRICELINE bid would be another course of action.Lastly, i'll add that the first two nites of your stay don't appear to be that high... it's the last 3 nites which cause rates to jump and are expensive. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts and how it goes or if we can be of further help. freckles1029 Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 Thanks! I decided to go with $139 in Crystal City on HOTWIRE using your link! It was the Radisson Hotel Reagan National Airport as you thought. Thanks for the help. I did not go with the extra $30 per night as it would add around $200 to the total bill but thanks for all the suggestions! You really helped me decide and this hotel even provides a shuttle to the metro stop which I found out before booking and it swayed my decision! This week in May (5/9/2010 - 5/14/2010) seems to be much more expensive than other weeks in May!Thanks for all the help!
thereuare Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Congratulations on your success!Glad to see you received the hotel you were hoping for and that this property will work well for your plans... the shuttle to the metro is a big plus!Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay.
