Hello,

I'm planning a shopping spree with my mother at the end of April.

I've been reading a lot of topics on your forum and have tried to bid (up to 180$ for 4* and 150$ for 3.5*) on Priceline without a success so far.

I'm looking for a 4* or even 3.5* and wouldn't want to spend more than 200$ per night. I'd raher keep my money for important things, like shoes :)>...

We'd like to be pretty central (Central Park South, Midtown East and West), but are flexible if need be.

Am I dreaming if I believe I can get a nice hotel at that price?

Please Help Me

Thanks

Given the rates I'm seeing on HOTWIRE for these dates - a $210 4* in MTC and a $209 4* in MTE, I don't think you're far off at all. I'd bid $185 for a 4* in CPS/MTE/MTW and see if that is accepted.

Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

hello,

which hotel in the Central Park Area would have the following characteristics:

- 3.5 stars

- Boutique hotel

- Restaurant

- High speed Internet access

- recommended by 60% of customers

Would it be worth it for 138$ per night?

Thanks!

Oh and also for info for anyone trying to bid for the same period, here is what I've tried on Priceline:

- 4* level in the Midtown East, Midtown West, Empire State Building and Central Park South areas: from $160 to $190 (using the re-bidding zones) and I got rejected for all of them! I don't get it if Hotwire offers something at 199$ for the ESB, how come priceline doesn't accept my offer at 190? It's pretty close I feel.

-3.5* level in the same areas: from $140 to $170 (only three re-bidding zones) and still got rejected for all of them!

This is really really tough to get a room in NYC! i thought we were still out of season at the end of April...

Many possibilities... the 4* offered via HOTWIRE may not be a hotel in the PRICELINE system, or if it is, it may be rated less than 4* by PRICELINE (and therefore not eligible on your 4* bidding). As well, while PRICELINE is usually cheaper than HOTWIRE, this is not always the case, and you still have a bit of room to go ($9) where PRICELINE could still be cheaper.

The Empire State Building property has not yet been identified, but i will point out the very highly rated 4.5/5.0 Tripadvisor user review which HOTWIRE associates with this property, so while unknown, i wouldn't worry too much about quality/user experience.

So here is a little update!

I got really tired of trying my low bets every single day, and I guess that how Priceline gets you!!!!

So i decided to go for a lower rate and decided to bet on 3.5* in the South Central Park, Midtown East and Empire State Building areas.

I started at 160 and got rejected until I reached 190$ (I was going by 10's and 190 was my upper limit). And then, OH JOY, I got my deal accepted!!!!!

So here are the details:

Hudson, A Morgans Original 3

Congratulations on your success. :)

Very nice deal for this boutique property - lowest rate on Expedia for these dates is $285.
