awillis Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 New to Priceline. Planning a first trip to NYC May 4-7. We'd be flying into LAG airport. Love to stay at a 3.5 + hotel for $110 or cheaper. There has already been success for this price and dates @ the Roosevelt posted in this forum. Since we haven't been to NY before we are not fussy about location. We're ok to use local transsport to get to places we'd like to see. Any suggestions as to a bidding strategy to try and get nicest hotel for least amount of $?
AaronJB Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Are there any zones you would not be interested in?. Additionally, rates have gone up for the Spring in recent weeks, and while $110 may have been enough a month or two ago, that may not be enough at this point. Would $110 be your desired max? Please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches.

If $110 won't get us a hotel in NYC I would also consider Jersey City as I understand it is only a 10-15 min subway ride away. I'm open to suggestions on how to get the nicest experience on a budget. Our main goal is a few days away and just thought NYC, with Priceline's help, would be a great change of scenery. We are pretty relaxed in our approach and hope to see some of the main sights, take in a last minute show and enjoy eating in some of the local, not too expensive, restaurants.
awillis Posted April 10, 2010 Author Report Posted April 10, 2010 Well going forward without any further suggestions, I tried a few bidding options and as warned, had no success with bids up to 110. So I began to search other options. I was able to find a flight and hotel combination for a total of $881. Direct flights from Buffalo and the 3 nights at Bentley Hotel on the Upper East Side. Quite happy with this as we have confirmed non smoking hotel and Queen Bed.Now if anyone can provide tips for a nice, not too expensive restaurant in the theatre district I'd appreciate it. Also any suggestions for getting to and from a Yankee's game would be welcome as I believe there's a game on the 5th (Are there usually tickets available at the gate??).Thanks for previous advice. I will try PRICELINE/HOTWIRE first when we are planning any other trips!
AaronJB Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Glad to hear you were able to find a good deal for these dates. $110 is certainly enough to get great deals in most major cities, but NYC is definitely a tougher place to get a reasonable rate, especially in busier periods like the Spring. Hopefully local members can suggest dining/transit options. If the game is sold out, stubhub is a popular online site for sports tickets. The city subway map is located here, and there is a designated stop for Yankee Stadium.
