Priceline Hotel: 4* Calgary (Downtown) Hyatt

:) Used the link.

Lots of free rebid zones in Calgary so I started at $60 and inched up. In short order had the Hyatt (my preferred hotel in Calgary) for $82 just as I expected from other bids although no recent posts. At the time Hyatt had limited last minute bookings on offer for $125 that were bookable but were to expire the day before we arrived. My corporate rate was much higher at $179 although it included free internet, a $13.95 value, for just an extra $54!.

No one has posted this yet but I suspect the Hyatt is also the 4* star on hotwire that appears with the suites icon as the amenities matched the Hyatt exactly when Hotwire occassionally offered the Hyatt as a featured non-opaque option to the other hotels (I was originally guessing the Sheraton Suites but think this must be the Hyatt due to the exact icon match). If so, Hotwire was asking over $104 ($124 if you added a third person like we had) at the time of my priceline bid but you need to be careful as the Hyatt, Westin and Delta all appear within a few dollars of each other.

We opted to upgrade to their Regency Club floor for an extra $45 per week-end night (this was a week-end special as regular price is $90/night; price includes local calls and long distance in North America, internet, club access and some other things). The room wasn't much if any different but access to the Club gave us an excellent continental breakfast (e.g. great smoked salmon), cocktail appetizers (really nice cheeses, grilled veggies, nice charcuterie, salsa, nuts, etc. plus fancy desserts later on) and free non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day during Club hours. The only shortcoming was the coffee machine - I have stayed in a Delta club room in Vancouver where the offerings are similar (Hyatt was better but Delta was also very good), but the Delta had one of those $3k to $5k super automatic espresso machines that made superb lattes etc. whereas the Hyatt was more of an instant cafeteria style machine although it offered a choice of beans and the beans were freshly ground. If it was $90 and just me I wouldn't go for it, but we had 3 of us on vacation and this helped make the trip.

Self-parking is $25/night but I only paid about $6 by parking on the street as this was a week-end and two day Easter holiday (free parking on holidays and Sunday, so I just had to pay for Saturday and we were out most of the day). There is also a City parkade down Centre street that charges a max of $4 during the day I think and I think another $2 at night, although no in out privileges) that we didn't use but would be another closeby option if you were visting during the week.

I have also stayed here many times on priceline and can report no priceline attitude at all! Just good friendly service!
