suziequeue Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 3 adults and 1 teen(16) traveling to NYC for broadway shows, museums, tourist attractions3 nights, June 10th to June 13th4* /2 rooms wanting to stay under $200 per roomif need to go to 3.5*, which area would give the nicest room for the money?Times Square first choice, followed by midtown west then central park southwant to walk and easy subway access (any other areas we should consider?)I was thinking that we could save by sharing a room/suite...but doesn't look like you can request room for 4?should i look at other options that would help us $ave?I have planned trips all over the US and Europe and NYC is the most frustrating and confusing :) so thanks so much for the help!
techmom Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 I've never stayed in hotels in NY since we stayed with relatives. But my brother, last year, stayed at the New York Hemsley which is in midtown East, near Grand Central. We thought it was an excellent location. With Grand Central within walking distance, it was easy to get anywhere and it's not as crazy as Times Square.Hope this helps.
AaronJB Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Midtown East is also a fine choice in the 4* category, although in 3.5*, there is the Millennium UN, which is further East in MTE and not as convenient. You do have a number of different options - I think a 4* win is possible in the $150-175 range, although you would be more likely to come in at the lower end of that range in MTE or MTW. TS is traditionally more expensive and options in CPS are somewhat limited. There are also options on HOTWIRE and some regular rate options of interest (although not in your desired areas), such as the well-reviewed Affinia Dumont (a 2 bed studio suite for $249 on sale on Expedia) or the Eventi (a brand new Kimpton boutique in Chelsea, which is opening this Spring) for $243.20 on sale on Expedia. Both the Affinia and Eventi are rates for all 4 in one room. Also, when searching on HOTWIRE, I do see a 4* in the Empire State Building area w/Boutique, Restaurant, Complimentary Breakfast, Hi-Speed Internet, Business for $209 (this appears when searching for 3 adults/1 child and 2 rooms. This would likely be the Morgans - if the location is acceptable (and it is over budget a bit), this would be a nice deal, as the hotel gets very good reviews and offers breakfast. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE or Expedia.com links to start your purchases and searches.
suziequeue Posted April 8, 2010 Author Report Posted April 8, 2010 if I am looking at TS, MTW, and MTE how low do you think I could start for 4* would CPS be less desirable then any of above...or should i try then zone too, if i am wanting to stay central and get to theater and museums easily?if you think i could win at $150...should i start a little lower?
AaronJB Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Given how far in advance you are bidding, you could try $140, although that's certainly a lowball bid - your best bet would likely be MTE, then MTW and then TS. There are a few possible 4*'s in CPS, but the only two that come up with any sort of frequency are the Le Parker Meridien and (only recently, since it's a new hotel), the Renaissance Hotel 57. The other three 4*'s in that zone are rarely seen. Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
suziequeue Posted April 26, 2010 Author Report Posted April 26, 2010 OK...i have bid up to $185i noticed that looking at prices that weekends were less than weekdays...would it help if we tried fri./sat. and left out thurs.(this is for the most part a travel day and we would not get to NY till afternoon/evening and could stay outside NY city for that night and come into city early in am)or do you think we should just go higher...how high? the reg. quote per day was $263...so wondering just how high should go??? seems to be getting close to actual cost?
thereuare Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Did you bid MTE, MTW, TS and CPS when your $185/nite bid was rejected?I suspect you're only $5-$10 away from a win for this complete stay... do you want to bid up to $200/nite for all three nites OR would prefer to try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID? (and likely need to change hotels)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
