No, i don't belive it's too early to start bidding for May. But it could be that the rates are higher due to the holiday. Have you looked at HOTWIRE for your dates?

Yes I did check with Hotwire. The cheapest is 95 in downtown south area which is Holiday Inn I believe. I tried breaking my stay into single days with no luck. :)

I really don't have any good answer to you :)

It could be that bookings looks good for the hotels and price is high on PRICELINE.

My best advice is to have patiance and keep bidding within your budgett. A good idea might be to book a cancelable room. That takes the stress out of bidding many times.
