Welcome to BetterBidding!

You may be able to get a 4* for a $170 bid... are you looking for the highest rated hotel within your budget or is the goal the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?

Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly.

I think we go with a 3.5* hotel and save some money for the trip.

Areas:

ESB

MTW

MSG

basically we want to stay central, to get anywhere quickly...what do you think, should I also go for MTE?

thanks

In terms of MTE at the 3.5* level you could get the Millennium UN, which is a bit of a trek - it's definitely further East in MTE. There is a 4* MTE on HOTWIRE for $169; you could possibly score a 4* in that zone for these dates for $145-150.

I heard the Millenium UN is a 15 minute walk to the subway...so NO MTE.

Let's see what we can get for 160$ (all in). ESB, MTW & MSG.

any advice much appreciated!

thanks

$135 would be the max w/tax in terms of $160 "all-in". You could use re-bidding (explained in this thread) or try:

$125 3.5* MSG, then $130 3.5* MSG/ESB, then $135 3.5* MSG/ESB/MTW.

Either way, I think it will likely take towards the high end of your budget to get a 3.5* accepted.

I went up to 150$, but didn't get something accepted...now I'm looking for a 3* hotel in the same area. What's a good starting bid? and should I choose the same areas I chose bidding for a 3.5* hotel?

thanks

today i went up to 145$ for a 3* star MSG, ESB, MTE & TS...got a message they still working on my reservation, I'll get my request in 15min. 15min later I got a message that they can't accept my bid. Seems like I have to raise my budget a bit...

Sorry to hear your bid wasn't accepted. :)

What would your desired max budget be? I just looked at HOTWIRE and a few listings are not much higher than what you've bid up to - there is now a 4* for $166 in MTE showing - fitness, business, internet, restaurant, tennis - which may be the Grand Hyatt or Intercontinental.

The 4* MTE HOTWIRE property looks to be the Inter-Continental Barclay and that would be my best guess for that one.

Since the HOTWIRE 4* is the least expensive options in the 'centrally located' zones at the 3* or higher level, and you've already been rejected at $145 for a 3* hotel, it doesn't look like you're really going to save much, if anything, but going for a 3* hotel. If it's within your budget, I would consider trying for a 4* hotel with a maximum bid of ~$160 (you'll likely success somewhere between $145-$160) since it appears a 4* hotel will only cost you a few dollars more than you have already bid for a 3*.

Thoughts?

I tried 160$ on a 4* in the centrally located zones, but got nothin. The 4* at Hotwire for 169$ would be 1618$ for 8 nights with taxes and fees. I didn't try MTE 3.5* because of the Millenium UN, but it seems like you could get the Roosevelt for a nice price in may/june...but there's still the risk of getting the Millenium UN. Is it possible that MTE is a bit cheaper than MSG, ESB & MTW? I'm going to talk to my mate about the budget again...let's see what we can do.

Yes it's possible... it all depends upon the occupancy level of the hotels in the zones and how much they're willing to discount for these particular dates.
