cocooncrash Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Hi!Looking for a 3* or higher hotel in NYC 5/7 to 5/13. We want to stay in an area with some nightlife (restaurants) closeby.Budget is max 175 dollar. We can split hotels if we have to.Bidding history (just to try some, weren't expecting to win 4*)4* MTW MTE MSQG TSQ 5/7 5/10 up to $130 rejected4* MTW MTE 5/7 5/10 up to $150 rejectedWe saw the Roosevelt 3.5* MTE was won for $110 but we prefer not to stay there (too many mixed reviews). What is a reasonable starting bid, what star level can we expect for $175 and which area would you recommend? Thanks
AaronJB Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)A few notes:A lot of hotels in NYC have similar reviews to the Roosevelt. One has to keep in mind that many of those reviews are from people who paid full price, which can be $250-300+; while it (in the case of the Roosevelt, many of their rooms are quite small, and smaller-than-average rooms are not uncommon in NYC in general) may not have met their expectations at that price, someone paying half that may feel differently. Additionally, in terms of avoiding a hotel, there is no way around possibly getting that property if you do bid for that star rating in that area.Is your budget max $175 "all-in" (w/taxes and fees)? Are you looking to push for a 3.5/4* or are you looking for a less expensive 3*?Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 In NYC at the 4* level the MTE, MTW, CPS, TS, and ESB usually work well for the average visitor, but you should look at these zone(s) yourself to see if each will work well for your plans. As you lower the star rating some of these zones have their own nuances which you need to take note of.Besides letting us know if you're willing to pay more for a higher rated hotel (ie- if you'd prefer to pay more for a 4* vs. a 3.5*, more for a 3.5* vs. a 3*) and if $175 is your all-in or bid amount, let us know if you'd prefer to try up to your limit first for a complete stay at one hotel OR if you'd prefer to try for a lower price by SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. cocooncrash Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 We are trying to push for 3.5* or 4* with a budget of $175-200 all-in. If that's not possible we're looking for a less expensive 3* hotel max $130.We don't mind staying in multiple hotels, so we want to try to for a low price by splitting our priceline bid. It's seems rooms are cheaper in the first 3 nights (5/7 - 5/10) and rise in the remaining days (according to Expedia). We're wondering if these prices are reasonable and have any change of winning in the given star ratings.Extra bidding history:MSG 3* $110 rejectedMTE 4* $160 rejectedThanks for your help!

As well, your wanting a 4* (or 3.5*) before a 3* seems to contradict your bidding order above, which first tried for a 3* in teh MSG zone and then tried for a 4* in the MTE zone.Extra bidding history:MSG 3* $110 rejectedMTE 4* $160 rejectedAt the 4* level, which zones are you willing to accept?
