Hotwire Hotel: NYC 11/21-11/26

My husband and me are planning a NYC trip over Thanksgiving for our fifth anniversary. Do you recommend going ahead and booking through HOTWIRE, or would I get a better deal if I wait? I know this is a really popular time to go to NYC, and I am afraid if I do wait that I will lose possibilities.

Also, I am looking at four star hotels. Since I have never been to NYC before, which is the best area to search in?

Any advice is appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

I'd start here: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire which explains the similarities, and differences, between the two services. From there you can decide which one you think better suits your needs.

What are the actual dates of your stay? What is your expected budget per nite?

I have used hotwire in the past. I am just not sure if it is a good idea to book so far in advance...but it is such a prime season for New York that I am afraid if I wait everything will be booked.

My actual travel dates are 11/21-11/26, and we would like to stay in the $200-$250 range at most. When I do a search now, it only brings up two hotel choices in the midtown east and times square areas. Should I go ahead and book?

The Thanksgiving period is definitely a prime period, although it depends on what exactly you're looking for. You could book a HOTWIRE rate now and get a good deal, or you could book something refundable now and then wait it out (and if nothing better came along, you would at least be set with a nice property.)

Examples on Expedia for these dates include (and double check the fine print for the refund policy for each): The Carlton ($223 on sale), Kimberly ($225 on sale) and 70 Park Avenue ($237, on sale). Are three are well-reviewed boutiques in nice areas.

Please use the site's Expedia.com, HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.

Are MTE and TS the only two zones you're willing to stay in? I see what i believe to be pretty good deals in other nearby zones.
