franklin411 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Eh...Tripadviser reviews aren't great, but it's only one night midweek in late April and I was having a devil of a time finding a reasonable place. I had been bidding $125-$145 for 4/27-4/28 for the White House, Convention Center, Dupont Circle, and Georgetown zones, with no luck. Finally I thought I'd give $150 a shot, and ended up with the Melrose. This completes my stay from 4/25-4/28 (2 nights already booked at the Softiel). Most I've ever paid for a hotel room in DC, so it better be nice!Used the PRICELINE link.
yellowdog Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding :) Let's hope that the hotel is better than the reviews then.Enjoy your stay.Yellowdog.
franklin411 Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 Let's hope...because now you can get the Omni Shoreham for $113 on HOTWIRE. Sigh...I hate convention season. :)
franklin411 Posted April 27, 2010 Author Report Posted April 27, 2010 So far I'm not at all impressed. We paid less for the Sofitel and got first rate service. The first thing the guy did at the Melrose was remark "Oh...you're from PRICELINE..." The room is OK--more 3 star than 4. The TV is tiny and the room smells faintly of cigar smoke. I had to pull teeth just to get them to agree to send housekeeping to at least vacuum the place. They did let us check in early, but in my experience they just do that to shove you into the "priceline room" (figuring you'll be happy enough to get in a room early that you won't complain about the substandard accommodations.))This hotel is not at all 4*. 3* is pushing it--I stayed at a 2.5* Courtyard that was nicer than this place. I'll never stay here again! If I had been in a more pugnacious mood, I would have said something like "Oh, if you don't want our business, just give us a refund. We'd be more than happy to leave this rat-hole and book a nicer room elsewhere!"Avoid this place at all costs.
AaronJB Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Sorry to hear you had a disappointing stay at this hotel. :)
franklin411 Posted April 29, 2010 Author Report Posted April 29, 2010 Sorry to hear you had a disappointing stay at this hotel. :)Well, luckily I have the Palomar when I come back in September. :o One more thing--there was no hot water at 8 AM! I looked on tripadvisor and it looks like they've been having water problems forever. I've never been to a hotel that had a water problem of any kind, frankly, and some of the reviews even say they had NO running water at all!I'll cut and paste these comments into a review soon, hopefully. :)
