Priceline Hotel: Help - 3* to 3.5* Dupont, White House

I have been bidding on DuPont and White house area for the dates 4/23-4/29 without much luck. Here is what my bids have been:

3.5* White House - $110

3.5* White House and Dupont - $115

3.0* White House and Dupont - $95

Any suggestions?

I really haven't come up with a max. I am trying to figure out what should be my max. I did look on a few websites and rates are high. Somwhere between $200 to $300 a night. I also can't find any successful bids on the board for that time period.

I would prefer to not split my bid, but nobody likes to. I might end up doing it as a last resort.

Any idea why rates are so high that week?

There's always something happening in DC... a rally, march, political meeting, some branch of the government in 'session', lobbyists, conferences, etc, etc. It's not uncommon to see rates sub-$100 one week and well over $200+ the next.

I'd start by finding your best available offer thru conventional booking channels... then you can determine how much of a discount you need to make an 'opaque' purchase worthwhile, and you can set your maximum bid accordingly.

I would also look at the Convention Center zone to see if the hotels and/or area are acceptable for your needs, as adding more zones increases the number of hotels available to accept your bid, which would increase your chances as well.
